First, they don't mark the cables, second the manuals for TV's, receivers etc. don't mention anything about HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 for ARC at all. Recently got a new TV and receiver and could not get audio throught the receiver/external speakers when using the internal tuner. The HDMI cables I had were "provided" cables from components I had purchased in the past After a time I realized that the only cause had to be the cable, so, not finding any info about which cable I needed in the paperwork provided, I just bought the cable rated the fastest and luckily, this worked. Why isn't this made clear? While certainly not an expert, I build my own computers set up my main 5.1 H.T. system and I can usually figure this stuff out. I can see where a lot of people would struggle with this, and to my mind, needlessly. Videos like this are very helpful and much appreciated.

Great job breaking it down for the masses. With my compatible Panasonic TCP Plasma, and Sony 5.2 STRD AV Receiver. The Audio from the TV is returned as PCM 2.0 channel even if the audio from the program on the TV is DD+. When the times comes for upgrading my AV Receiver and TV to 4K. To take full advantage of the all those audio formats (if they're being transmitted by the program via the TV). I will have make it's eARC comparable from point A to Z and reverse with the compatible wire.

I purchased a bundle (tv, receiver & universal player) today selecting different brand names depending on my research/compatibility between the three units overall and this was the last piece of info I needed before I pulled the trigger. Earc on both tv & receiver, new high speed/quality 2.2 HDMI cables for TV compliance rated. Hopefully I will have some time before the newer 2.2 HDMI copyright compliance ultra 4K disks start pumping out to enjoy my new receiver / universal player until they are outdated or at least hope there will be a firmware update.

Thank you dude, this was very helpful. My tv, a Panasonic 4K smart tv, GX800, has three HDMI ports, and I believe port number 2 has HDMI ARC. The only thing I will be using, connecting to my tv is a Sony DVD player, which can also play Blu-ray Discs. What I’m not sure about is do I connect this DVD/Blu-ray player into the tv HDMI port 2 with ARC, or, connect the unit to port 1 or port 3? I guess I need to look at the DVD/Blu-ray player to see if its HDMI port is marked ARC or not, but maybe you know that it won’t be? Also, do I need to check my HDMI connecting cable can also use the ARC function, presumable it will say it does on the packaging or cable? Grateful for your advice please on the above. Once again, great video and well explained.

Hey Bob congrats on the soundbar system, Nice!! You will get the DTS-HD Master Audio & Dolby® TrueHD capabilities, it's hard to say right now if it's beneficial to get a TV with that feature. Yes, if you want to get the highest sound from your TV to the soundbar. No, if you want to wait until it is more implemented into other thing like, Fire Sticks, game systems, etc. But it wouldn't harm if you want to future proof yourself by getting the TV now.

when using earc is it possible to have lip sync or other issues? i want to buy a ps5 later this year and i wonder if i should buy the new denon 3700 with hdmi 2.1 on board or should i go with last year's better model, at the same price and use earc instead..
@ChardTheTechGuy4 жыл бұрын
Lip sync issue is possible, but most TV have an audio sync settings to try correct that problem. If you say last year model is better I would go for it, I don't know if the PS5 uses eARC yet though.
@richellebrittain21274 жыл бұрын
Auto lip sync correction was optional with ARC, but I understand it's mandatory with eARC. ARC/eARC doesn't apply to external sources like the PS5; it applies only to the connection between TV & soundbar / AVR. If your TV & soundbar / AVR both support eARC, you should be able to plug your PS5 (PS4, Xbox, Blu-ray player, etc.) directly into the TV for maximum audio support (though I've heard the PS5 won't support Atmos for gaming, unlike even the current Xbox). The significance of eARC is it provides the same audio bandwidth on the ARC channel as the "forward" HDMI audio channel, which can handle anything from Atmos/DTS:X on down; regular ARC's bandwidth is limited to DD/DTS (same as optical/coax) plus DD+ & Atmos over DD+ (from most smart TV apps, *not* Atmos over TrueHD from Blu-ray or Atmos over MAT from Xbox). If you don't have eARC, you'll need to run it thru the soundbar / AVR for maximum audio support and hope it gives you maximum video support as well.

You really need HDMI 2.0, High Speed 22.28 Gbps cable amzn.to/2yt2K3I It supports 4K@60Hz, HDR, 4:4:4 or RGB, HDCP 2.2, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X. You will only get the true benefits out of eARC when your equipment support it on both ends. Hope that helps, if not let me know

Great video ! But does the new HDMI 2.1 port on the One Connect Box replacement (in port 4) have the eARC capability - or is eARC only for the Port 3 that you can connect and get the eARC function ? I got a new OCB replacement for my 75" Q900R TV, which should fix the HDMI 2.1 socket problem, but the Port 3 still had the name "ARC" next to it... My Tv only has 1 Arc input and I use that port for my 4K android box is there a way for me to add another Arc port via adapter so that I can hook my sound bar through hdmi Arc?
@ChardTheTechGuy4 жыл бұрын
Okay you don't need an adapter plug the Soundbar into the HDMI ARC port. that's what port is specially made for and the 4K Android Box into any other HDMI port. If you are out of HDMI ports watch this How To Choose The RIGHT HDMI Switcher kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH6bYmxmaMp2aac

All 4 ports on my tv are HDMI arc, neither are identified as "in" or "out". Does the port on my sound system need a HDMI arc "Out" or HDMI arc "In" port to have the sound on my tv play through my sound system?
@ChardTheTechGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hey Warren, HDMI ARC is both in and out so you need to connect HDMI ARC to HDMI ARC on each end. Which includes TVs, Sound-Bars, Sound Systems, ETC. Hope that helps

Hi,I have a Smart Samsung TV,My Reciever is link to it through Arc,so I can play through my Speakers,I also have a soundbar,with Arc,and I can not put 2 Arc connections into the TV,if I use the soundbar the speakers will not work and Visa Versa,if I switch to Bluetooth on the Soundbar it will automatically disconnect the HDMI Arc settings for my speakers,how to get my speakers and my soundbar with my subwoofer to work at the same time without one disconnecting the other.The Subwoofer is also Bluetooth but this will not work it will automatically cut my sound off my Samsung TV....Do you have a solution please.

Hi Tony, see what you are trying to do, and I've been in the same situation, the battle with the sound-bar and the receiver + surround sound speakers. Because the HDMI ARC port only support one audio source at a time, you have to choose between using the Receiver or the sound-bar for the ARC. Other option is remove one from the setup, use the receiver and disconnect the sound-bar or just use the sound-bar and minus the receiver. The last option is get a splitter the split the ARC output from the TV to the sound-bar and receiver, but I don't that will work well either.

Hey brother quick question can I use the ultra high speed cable on a Arc port on my tv cause just my soundbar has earc not the tv

Yes you can, that would be my prefer choice

I am into audio heavy formats....when buying tvs and devices make sure all of them have eARC ports and buy a cable that can handle 48gbs and then enjoy the full audio formats.!!

Yes. Thanks for the feedback.

Does HDMI Arc bitstream uncompressed for Dolby Atmos still retain the 1mbps bandwidth cap? In other words... if I purchase the Sonos Arc Soundbar that only has 1 HDMI input, eArc. Since I am no longer directly connecting my AppleTV 4K to the Sony HT-ST5000 (existing Soundbar) the next gen bar will now only receive compressed Dolby Atmos vs the prior direct connect uncompressed Dolby Atmos? Assuming sources like Netflix and AppleTV purchased movies had the codec for uncompressed will be gone w the Soundbar upgrade. Bc my 2019 Vizio Quantum P series TV is not eArc compatible!? Oh man.

I wish I had watched this 3 days ago. I purchased a jbl 9.1sound bar with Dolby Atmos. Problem....My Samsung tv only has Arc and the tv settings and Netflix app only support Dolby digital plus. So frustrating. Sadly I didn't know what questions to ask until I found a problem and needed to start looking for answers.
@ChardTheTechGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hey Colin sorry to hear that, yeah I understand & wish I was able to save you from all that frustration. You can still use the eARC & ARC together until you can get the sound bar and TV on the same level.

@@ChardTheTechGuy While the sound hadn't changed my life as I had hoped, after watching Bumblebee on Netflix last night the sound improvement is massive. After pausing the action to take a call, I pressed play again and the sound hit me.... HARD. That hit of sound added a level of emerson such that while I was frustrated, I shouldn't complain as I am not disappointed.

Hello Chard, my media players,Roku and xfinity flex has only HDMI OUT to my denon receiver and old movies and songs do not play in 5.1 format and it turns off my center channel powered subwoofer.However,an optical connection via a bluetooth receiver has better prologic transmission even from an iphone.Does this mean HDMI is lacking in some features? What can I do to fix this?
@ChardTheTechGuy4 жыл бұрын
HDMI does not support 5.1 audio format only Optical does. So I would stick to Optical if you need to have 5.1, but remember HDMI support formats that the optical doesn't - no winning this one

I’m so confused. So my TV just did a firmware update to eArc. I’m looking at a soundbar that has eArc. If I plug my BluRay (that doesn’t have eArc) directly into the tv (regular arc port), will I be able to get lossless audio via the tv eArc to the soundbar eArc? Thanks, folks!
@bergennorway3 жыл бұрын
You will get the sound from the Blu-ray disc, whatever signal you decide to use! Lossless or not, you decide!
@ryans4133 жыл бұрын
Just plug the player directly into the sound bar and the out port from the sound bar to the eARK port on the tv that way you should not get sync issues

I have connected my TV HDMI ARC port to home theater's ARC port but still not able to get Dolby digital Plus content to be played. Please help
@ChardTheTechGuy3 жыл бұрын
Dolby Digital Plus signals decoded to PCM inside the player can be transported via HDMI 1.1, HDMI 1.2, and HDMI 1.3 connections, and the majority of Blu-ray players support this capability.
@ryans4133 жыл бұрын
Go into the tv and make sure audio set to bitstream not pcm then you’ll get Dolby Digital Plus right into the receiver no decoding will happen Tv just spits out the information. When it’s set to PCM post code modulation the tv is decoding the information and it never sounds good. Make sure it’s on bitstream
