I was glad to hear Rick’s keyboard playing balanced pretty well against David’s guitar and Nick’s drums, though I always wish they would push his levels up a tad more (there’s so much else going on on stage!). At least towards the end of this song the balance seemed to highlight the three Floyd members. I always love hearing Rick and David really play together.

My Father died of cancer in 2018. He was a truck driver ever since I could remember (Born in 85, 38 years of age now).. He showed me every country through his job through a truck window. Beautiful Italien women, saving kittens and made our food of his outside fridge in the truck. We listened to Pink all the way up and down. His biggest dream was to show me this concert. Beside my Mom, Pink was his greatest love! He never could afford it. So we bought it on DVD and wore that CD OUT! So thank you for posting this. You just made me travel with my Father from the humble city of Randers, Denmark, seem like it was yesterday. All the way to Italy and back! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!

My uncle introduced my to Pink Floyd's music when I was about 15 years old. Id started to learn to play guitar a few years beforehand having lessons at school (had been having private piano lessons since i was around 7 or 8, and by that point was at grade 4 ABRSM exam level so was getting on with it quite well). Was going out fishing early one Saturday morning so i stayed at theirs the night before. We sat up the two of us once my aunt went to bed, and he put on the DVD of this very concert and we cracked open a beer. Said to me "once you can play a guitar like Dave Gilmour mate, youve done it". From that point on, i sat and watched the dvd in awe and amazement. He was at Earl's Court when this was recorded and said the atmosphere was unbelievable. I had an idol to admire as far as my guitar playing was concerned.

@6:38 Dave Gilmour knowing that the entire arena is focused in on him, the pressure to not break a string must have been immense, then cuts across to Nick Mason simply "Having It" on the drums, smashing it out!! Never listened to it and everytime i heard the name it would make me think of him. I'm 39 now and last 4 weeks have been an eye opener, this has to be the most wholesome, healing music i ever heard in my life. I just regret i never truly "listened" to it until now. This is no doubt one of the best songs ever written with the most beautiful solo ever. No way to explain it but it touches every fiber of my body. All those wasted years of hate... I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible.

Simply stunning. I remember that tour so well. Absolutely amazing that 25 years have flown by since then... I would take 10 notes from David Gilmour than 100 from almost anyone else. He squeezes every ounce of musical goodness out of a single note like you would squeeze every drop of juice out of a ripe piece of fruit. There is so much going on in this video sonically and visually that the human mind can barely absorb it all. I did my best and I'm a better person for it... Emotionally, I think the LIVE 8 reunion performance had a bigger impact, knowing that that was the last time the four of them would perform this song. But also seeing David Gilmour appear for this song on one of Roger Waters' performances of THE WALL was quite memorable too! Bravo!

Look in KZbin under Roger Waters-David Gilmour Comfortably Numb 02 Live 2011. Gilmour appeared for this song (+ the finale) during Waters' performance of THE WALL, and freaked out the crowd.

The one that gets me the most is the one from Brazil. The shear love and respect from the crowd of young kids just gets me. None of them were even born when this came out, it is not their native language, and they sing it like they own it.

I give praise to ever single session player, past and present players. To sit in and even play one song, has to be the greatest thrill to play with such a legendary group. People will be listening to Pink Floyd well over 100 years from now. Gilmore wears that whammy bar out 😂😂😂

Seen Pink Floyd 5 times, but I don't know why this solo seems to be everyone's favorite. He's done at least 5 equally amazing renditions in the past 20 years, in my opinion. His ability to find new sounds to create within it seems neverending.
@Midnight_Rambler5 жыл бұрын
I've also seen them 5 x times including this one and I think this is his best rendition, the Acoustics at Earls Court make a difference I think, plus the actual solo itself (which has had variations over the years) is his best version

Every time I watch this, I want to cry for TWO reasons. One, because it's so damn beautiful, especially when that mirror ball lights up! Two, because I missed out on seeing this tour! Would've loved seeing those reflective lights off the roof of the Pontiac Silverdome! I would've been 19 at the time, when I was still a ball of energy at a concert! THIS show would've been the only concert that could've ever beaten a Rush show in my world, but having never been there in person, I can't officially say that.

I saw them one time, before they became huge! It was 1970 at the old Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. No seats, just the dancefloor, and I sat on the stage near Richard Wright, the keyboardist! It was something out of this world, like we'd never heard before! Crowd was mellow, but just blown away.... A memory from my youth I'll never forget!

After more then 2 decades it just dawned on me. Having visited a concert of this tour as a young boy -which didn't know anything about Pink Floyd- turned out to be my all time high life experience. Being there with my dad, seeing the light specks of the mirror ball on my body, experiencing the music, the lights, the motionlessly staring of all the adults to the show. Every time I see this show my mind freezes and just accepts the joy of the moment, taking me back to my first and only Pink Floyd live experience. This concert has become part of me. Especially this song, but also "one of these days" , another brick in the wall" and " Run". Since then I have been at 100ths of concerts but none has come close to the same experience. I wish shows like these came back. For all the faults my dad might have had, I'm eternally grateful for bringing me to the concert.
