What's hilarious is to the eyes if you saw the plasma besides the motion you would be like wtf why does the plasma actually look better lol no matter what he's telling me I know for a fact the plasma looks better in 1080p content can it look as good as native 4k hdr no but it's damn good shockingly good lol I really really really really hate he showed advice optimized for hdr and played rhe downcoverted version which is washed out trying to make it out like it's the tv when in reality it's just the sdr edition is flat when forcing it down like that if he played a native 1080p movie that was made for true 1080p the results would of been completely different he did this on purpose I love vincnet but he knows what he's doing he knows why there was a difference its funny if he played that exact movie on the 4k Panasonic and was able to make it downconvert into sdr on the version that wasn't made for it the movie would of looked exactly the same in color so yeah I hate he did that Listen the Panasonic is better and the sony and lg tvs are also but he didn't do the plasma justice and he did it on purpose it's sad that he also kept it so curved no other videos does he make them sideways like that and we all know oled viewing angles are better so he did it no justice and on purpose I don't even own a plasma anymore and know thus from my own testing and this was just a year ago which would be around the time of this video reslly really decepting that's the only thing I don't like about this video If I record a video and then downconvert it in to 1080p sdr from recording 4k hdr guess what the colors get washed out and the tv looks nasty af that's just how it works and he knows this or he should at least mabye he didn't back then lol

@@makafuniruni as I said I don't even own a plasma anymore I did my testing over a year ago like I stated in my comment meaning I did move on i was specifically stating he used very bad sdr content that was never optimized or made for true sdr it was downconverted sdr my only point was 1080p sdr content still looks better on it then the penny does that's jsut a fact because as Vincent even explained the 4k tv is upsclaimg to 3k the plasma only does it to its native resolution which is 1080p which is what the content actually is when you play a true 1080p movie or something that was my only point is he used crap washed out dowmcoverted sdr content that was made in hdr if he played other sdr content it would of looked much better plasma is known for there color we have plenty of other comaprisons out there even 2 of plasma tvs next to the hz2000 I'm sure you can find them whrre the color was just as good but the 1080p content was a bit cleaner stated by the user just like I've seen myself all I was saying is he didn't do the plasma justice if yoy also saw I said it played 1080p better but I also said no it can't compete with 4k hdr so idk where you got I said it was actually better overall I was specifically staying 1080p sdr content only

I do repair TVs. So I have experienced several brands ,and models, 1080p to 4k , local dimming ,hdr and some were qleds with dolby vision. Then I got a Samsung 720p plasma , a heavy beast for repair. Once the repair done, I turned it ON and I couldn’t believe my eyes. What a colour reproduction this old tv has! I kept an eye in the local sales since then., and I am the proud owner of a Panasonic TC-P50G15 now! This model has THX certified display with a specific THX picture mode! Damn, I will keep it as long as I can repair it (If anything happens ). Cheers

Bro the Panny G series are amazing tvs. I had a G10, James Cameron worked with Panasonic for Avatar, he wanted a tv that was perfect for it with the colors. You have to watch Avatar on it. I havent seen it the same since my ex stole my G10. My 4k full array Led cant do it. Even tho the G10 was 1080p it looked better

I remember modern rear projection TV´s being better than either one. No burn in, full color pixels instead of RGB, less energy consumption and cheaper to buy. And when the PQ deteriorates just swap the bulb. Being projectors, some even had overlapping pixels = one smooth image. There also was a brand making 5 inch thick RPTV´s for wall mounting. I had one for 10 years; doubt my OLED will last that long.

I have the Panasonic ZT60 as my main living room TV. I paid about $1400 for it on a clearance and open box sale. Original price was $3200 or so. It has served me well over these 7 plus years. Yes I know it’s about that time to upgrade to 4K HDR OLED but the value and reliability of that TV is unmatched.

@JungleBubble oled has a similar blur reduction, and the response time is again better than a plasma or all other tech. the problem is judder, not blur. and judder is more visible because tv s are more bright and lower response time, we can t have all! but dejudder work fine on last tvs and its in constant progress

@JungleBubble The latest Sony OLED's have a pretty interesting implementation of BFI. They divide the screen in 3 horizontal 'bars' and display one after the other. So they first display the top third of the screen, then the middle third and then the bottom third. This means a part of the screen is always displayed. In a way it is a crude form of CRT scanning. This gives less of a hit to brightness than other implementations and it eliminates the flicker. I hope this will find it's way to other brands as well. (and until that time I'll be keeping my last gen Panny plasma as well ;) )

@@DirectorHMAN I have an issue with mine that I'm going to try and fix myself, but the screen is still good. That sucks about your new TV /:(. The manufacturers certainly aren't making anything better, quality just keeps slipping and slipping on just about everything. The technology goes up, but everything breaks much faster. Modern TV's are basically disposable at this point, as I don't see much of a difference between a $500 vs a $2000 set. Usually when they make something well, it's expensive to make, and therefore not as profitable, hence why Panasonic discontinued their Plasma line.

I think it was 3500€ back then, it still works perfect, but i think we upgrade soon because of 4k…

I'm the type that only upgrades when stuff breaks. I don't mind 1080p, I think it looks great. I'm sure 4K is wonderful, but I'm happy with the current picture.

Acupresh x yep still got my LG 60 inch from 2013 that i bought cheap from best buy since it was a display panel in store. Have never had issue with it or had to change any parts/bulb. At one point i wanted it to fail so i have an excuse for replacing with 4k lcd in basement but old faithful refuses to go out like that lol i have a new found affinity for this tv, especially since my bedroom samsung 4k began having issues after only 2 yrs, decided to go with lg again to replace it, c9 oled last yr, so LG is now my go to for tvs.

Acupresh x exactly and i have had no issue with burn in after a year, and the old lg plasma ive had for yrs now only did a temporay image retention because i forgot it on for a whole day with cnn type channel, ticker running at bottom. It cleared itself soon after after, when i changed to other content for an hr. LG oled is amazing, my fav tv ever that ive owned, the 4k blurays i used to play on samsung 4k just look 10 times better on oled in my opinion, contrast is key and inky blacks, dont need overly bright display either that sacrifices image detail.

I had a cheap Vizio plasma in the mid 00's. That thing looked beautiful compared to the CRT I'd upgraded from. However, what I really remember is that the Plasma TV also doubled as a 1,000 BTU space heater. That thing was SO HOT!

Yeah that's one of the main reasons they went away. Legal regulations on limiting wasted energy was catching up on it and it also had poor RMA rates as some literally heated till the plastic melted or started to chip. Shame as they really looked incredible. Nothing's perfect.

@@Skylancer727 I would say that was part of the reason but I mean if it was about making money. Plasma TVs were extremely heavy and costed a lot to produce and more importantly to ship. Shipping rates increased tremendously and the weights of the plasma didn’t help that it was becoming a lose lose situation.

And considering there are LCD TV's with thousands of LEDs for the backlighting coming out now I don't imagine that was the main concern. @@Skylancer727 nowadays everything is about profit making, shipping these things from overseas cost a fortune LEDs and Lcds are all plastic and light as feathers so is Oled you could put about three of those TVs together and it won’t equal the Weight of one plasma. profitability goes down immediately when you’re spending it on shipping alone. I know that my OLED TVs and when I had an occasional LED TV to try out I can carry it myself impossible to do with my plasma.

I have the Panasonic vt50 65inch and still love this TV. For years I said I would replace it, but just cannot let it go. The image quality is still amazing and fast motion still clearer than my Samsung LED TV. A true work horse of its time.

Wonderful comparison, and thank you for mentioning Pioneer Kuro's, I had a Pioneer LX5090 for many years, then switched to Samsung KS8005 and it did not stay long being edge lit. Now using a LG B7. Also sold my Pioneer to a colleague who still uses it as his bedroom TV calibrated with Calman. Plasma was superb, ruined by fear mongering marketing like today's LED vs OLED.

Plasma had a main weakness. It wasn't bright enough for daytime sports viewing. It aso got dimmer quickly. It was inefficient, heavier than LCD and subject to burn in. Fear mongering did not do in plasma. The brightness and colour pop won over the general public who couldn't care less about proper calibration.

The fam is still rocking a Panasonic 65 inch Plasma to this day. It is excellent on a lot of fronts. The color is great, the motion is awesome, any animated film to this day looks incredible. Its also great to game on.

Panasonic stopped producing plasma in volume in 2014 and it wasn't until recently that the television industry was able to produce better televisions than plasma with other technologies. That is an INCREDIBLE run! I am still using my plasma Panasonic and it continues to function perfectly. Probably my best consumer tech purchase ever.

That it has be compared to one of the most expensive OLEDs on the market just be slightly overshadowed in some areas (and mostly just in HDR content) speaks volumes of how bad most consumer TVs are today. A mid-range LED TV or a cheap OLED from 2020 still can't beat a mid-range plasma from 2010.

Comparing SDR 1080p plasma content to HDR oled. If he had put SDR content on both, you would see the plasma doing a better job. The colour reproduction and fidelity is unmatched on the last gen plasmas.

HDR videos/movies looks like crap on SDR monitors because it is not easy to automatically convert HDR content to SDR. The same issue happens when HDR content is outside what HDR screen can handle, there needs to be conversion and it usually doesn't look very good.

I am still watching my Samsung 2013 64" 3D ZT65 plasma as my primary TV and I love it! I still get the "Wow" effect when people see it. I do like the high-end OLED TVs and I have saved up to buy one but I will keep loving my plasma until it goes out (which I hope doesn't happen for a long time) then I will have to buy an OLED (unless they start making plasma TVs again).

12:05, the Plasma looked better here, more details in the sky/stars and more details on the ground. I still rock a 65" VT60, 1080p BluRay looks gorgeous to me. OLED is nice, but to expensive if you gonna go bigger than 65". The VT60/ZT60 is still a "movie king" tv with inky blacks and smooth motion. They still hold up well even in 2020.

Well done, Vincent. I just replaced my beloved 65ZT60 with a Sony 77A9G. The Panny was moved to the basement exercise room - I won't give it up until it's picture fails! If I get the same 7 years trouble free viewing from the Sony as I've had with the Panasonic I'll be very pleased. The Sony is brighter and 4K/HDR is beautiful but the Panasonic ZT60 is a true classic TV.

Plasma was murdered by a misinformed market. People actually thought burn in was an issue post 2009. It really saddens me that LCD kept surviving with its inferior picture quality, but thankfully OLED came to the rescue.

I got a Panasonic Plasma in 2008, a Samsung plasma in 2010, and another Panasonic Plasma in 2013. I used all of them for gaming and the 2010 Samsung and 2013 Panasonic got burn-in after 1-3 years (the 2008 Panny didn't get burn in, but died after 3 years). I bet if I just used them for movies they would have been fine.

I picked up a VT50 in 65" flavour two years ago for under $400! My 7th or 8th plasma in 10 years. With bias lighting, blacks are beastly. BTW, what's that demo video playing at the start? No matter how technology evolves, I'll keep the old special stuff like CRT monitors and plasmas around for their *increasing narrowing* set of strengths for certain content.

Just bought the LG CX, almost everyone was impressed by the deep black of the OLED panel, but my parents have the Panasonic plasma at their house, and they were just feeling okay about the CX, the plasma is like 10 plus? years old now, and it’s still working fine, except a little bit dimmer than it used to be, and quiet hot and more power.

There would be a difference in near-black gradation, HDR handling and such, but overall it's not much of a improvement I expected from the OLED tecnology in 5 years. It's still the best thing available on TV market, though.

Plasma is inferior to OLED though. While modern QLED TV's have a brightness advantage over OLED which is already beyond brighter than Plasma TV's. HDR not only doesn't exist on Plasma but, would also be a complete nightmare for them due to how freaking dim they are.

I still have my 50" Kuro but gave it to my kids last year. I bought a Panasonic GZ1000 last year and love it. The Pioneer plasma is hands down superior with fast motion, however the OLED is superior everywhere else. No regrets going OLED but quite honestly could've stayed with my Kuro for another decade and I'm sure I'd still be happy

I have a 2013 Panasonic plasma and this video tells me that I'm going to keep it for as long as possible. I'm a big sports watcher and I think all the trickery involved in trying to emulate the Plasma impulse display on the OLED means that I'm better off sticking to the 'simpler' plasma for as long as I can. Others who like watching slow motion movements or HDR content will obviously prefer the OLED.

They have similar names but one is a backlight technology for LCD panels and the other is a completely new implementation of the whole display. MicroLED is more like a commercial billboard, shrunk down to a home-use size.

Thank you for this comparison video. It convinced me to keep my 65" Panasonic plasma. Every screen comparison showed that the plasma has a more natural and true to life color versus the oled which shows an over saturated and not life like color. Also the motion handling is better on the plasma. The motion jitter you showed on the oled is unacceptable. The 4k resolution is not a factor once you are sitting at the correct viewing distance. You will not be able to see the difference. Hdr does not sway the difference since I do not wait for the one scene in a particular movie to notice that the sun is blown out. The natural color and motion are more important.

I owned a few plasmas over a decade ago. For the time they were without question the very best possible display for the home. I had two Panasonic's and one Pioneer Kuro. I now own an LG C9 and Vincent mention the only two areas I miss about plasma; 24p judder and SDR upscaling. However for me neither are important enough to forgo all the advantages of OLED. Not to mention the two biggest issues with plasma, low peak brightness that declines over time and the impossible to avoid burn-in. The reason I upgrade to a Kuro was because of burn-in on the Panasonic. After a little over a year with the C9 I have no image burn-in at all even with some "abuse" with HDR gaming and their anxiety inducing HUD elements! Plasma will always have a special place in my heart, it was a huge step above the LCDs of the same era but OLED is just such an amazing upgrade I wouldn't go back. Excellent comparison as always Vincent, brought back some great memories of setting up my first plasma and playing Wipeout HD on the PS3, good times :)

My G25 with 30k+ hours on it has not a hint of burn in and my c8 old has 6k hours and not a bit of burn in. Pc gaming every day and not one antenna ever hooked to either. No cable either. I only stream and download movies and have physical media. Burn in mainly comes from heavy television use. Channels with logos and crap like that. It all depends on how you use and how you take care of it.

The only rhing that disappointed me about my 65C8 is that not very long after that they came out with the c9 and it has hdmi2.1 which would give my 2080ti 120hz to my TV in 4k. But I found out later that doesn't seem to work either because the 2080ti doesn't have 2.1 hdmi. But on the other hand, I wouldn't have been able to pay only 1800 bucks for a 65 oled had I bought the brand newest one. There will always be something better next year and I may just wait for MicroLED.

I have a Panasonic VT60 and a Pioneer Kuro plasma, and both still look awesome! Every time I turn them on (especially the Kuro) I’m just blown away by their color. Of course the newer 4K TV’s look more detailed than my 1080 p’s, and I have been looking to get a new TV during this Black Friday season. The Sony & LG OLED’s offer beautiful pictures and deep blacks, but the TV is going into our great room with skylights and lots of windows, and I worry about brightness and reflections. Several dealers I’ve spoken with tell me that they’ve put OLED’s in brighter rooms and it’s been fine, and that since I’m used to plasma I won’t be happy with an LED TV. Am considering the Sony 950 or 900 H, but I’m keeping both my plasma’s in any case. 😏 Thanks for the comparison-I enjoyed it.

The Bond scene shows fabulously how bad the OLED is in showing moving objects compared to the plasma. See how much ghosting there is in the letter. I didn't notice any of the plasma artifacts you mentioned with the other motion sample clips, but I did notice how badly the OLED stutters even with slow moving objects.

I remember back in the day, ABT was trying HARD to sell me the 2x the price Pioneer Plasma 720p over my Panasonic 1080p Plasma. I'm like bro, they are both plasma's, they should be shaking hands and laughing at every single LCD in the store. If I want 1080p, I'll get the 1080p I said. Other TVs aren't even in the same league. Money saved, but the Pioneer looked dayum fine. Meanwhile, I had my brother who just a Vizio LCD constantly talk about how LCD gets brighter than Plasma and I'm like, but you don't even know what brightness you need. I jumped directly from a CRT (36'' Trinitron that weighed half a ton) to a plasma (2009) to an OLED (2016), and the plasma was probably the best middleground between the three technologies for SDR. Thankfully I never had to intentionally suffer an LCD panel in my home outside of PC stuff. I'll miss the better motion handling of the plasma with modern games, but OLED is slowly, and surely improving on that front. For everything else though, there's no comparison. Once you own an OLED, it's impossible to go back to anything else as a main viewing screen. Even the plasma that once looked like it had a great black level looks extremely raised in comparison. I do keep my plasma around though for 1080p console gaming. That still looks bad on a 4K screen by comparison.

In really bright scenes, the OLED clips and you can see the lost in detail. Also, the Plasma looks more natural and pleasing to the eyes. That Netflix scene at 21:01 looks amazing on the plasma. It smokes the OLED.

Excellent video. I spent hundreds repairing my plasma until OLED's came down in price to what I was comfortable spending because I simply couldn't bring myself to go from plasma to LED. That said, I love OLED and I especially love HDR. I'm not convinced that 4K brings much to me with a 55 inch display, but HDR is great and OLED is a beautiful picture overall.

Hmm, I have the Pioneer KURO PDP-6010FD and friends of mine can't understand why I'm contemplating going oled, when the plasma still looks so great. Even the local installer I had come by to give me an estimate thought my Kuro was still amazing. I definitely think OLED is the true successor to plasma. I have a 2020 Samsung LCD LED and it looks laughable compared to the LG C1 OLED. OLED is kind of a mix between CRT and plasma in terms of both the pros and cons. LCD may be the best for displays with lots of static content, but it's definitely not good for a TV. If my 2010 Samsung plasma was also 4k it could probably would have easily beaten the led LCD Samsung in picture quality. I must admit seeing OLED for the first time I was genuinely shocked at how good it looked. It felt similar to seeing HD for the first time coming from SD. Can't say I reacted the same way with LED LCD. That and the fact that led LCD has a standard refresh rate of 60hz, while most OLEDs (except for a few budget ones or older ones) are 120hz also doesn't help. And those people who complain that 800 nits isn't bright enough are really cherry-picking the one thing about OLED where an LCD can win. It doesn't matter too much. 800 nits is still really bright and bright enough for 99% of people

Have the very same ZT 65 inch TV. I have no complaints about it whatsoever. I've played hours and hours of games on it over the many years I've owned it and have zero burn in. Getting used to the plasma brightness I'm certain oled brightness is going to seem amazing to me. I had the VT 60 Picture quality is amazing and I still kept a GT 50 just can’t give it up. The most natural color rendition comes out of those TVs yes I have high end Oled TV LG in my living room and a Panasonic Oled in my bedroom but there is just a realism to the plasma that the Oled comes close but can’t surpass. For those who talk about plasma being dull, yes you need a light controlled room. When you think back then the only offering to compete against plasma was LCD which couldn’t come close! Now we’re comparing a plasma to top Oled. I think that says a lot for the technology all the naysayers don’t know what they’re talking about because they had a cheap LCD TV that was bright and the picture was hideous when viewed from the side the colors were not realistic because they used to computer monitors and that’s what they thought the TVs should look like. Back in 2009, I purchased a Panasonic TC-P42G15 because it provided the best TV image I was able to find. It's still my TV today. Of course, there have been many advances in TV technology over the years with the development of OLED, Mini-LED, 4K and now 8K, not to mention that much larger displays are becoming common. So, I have been begun looking more seriously at upgrading my TV, particularly as the 42" screen has never been ideal for viewing letterboxed films. But, being retired and living on a pension, making a major purchase like this is something I'm approaching cautiously. Your review has been very helpful to improve my understanding not only of what I will gain by getting a new OLED but also the benefits my own plasma set has that make it still one of the best 1080p sets available. When playing a blu-ray film such as Lord of the Rings on my Panasonic Viera 1080p plasma TV and playing that same blu-ray on my Bang & Olufsen B&O BeoVision Eclipse 65" 4k UHD OLED using the same blu-ray player, I can honestly say even after trying all the setting and variations that the Panasonic Viera plasma TV wins hands down. The darker area is more detailed with more discernable details, being a touch more natural, the colours are far more intense, and the quality of the film really stand out more. Even when playing first-class 4K transfer on the 4K B&O it only wins the plasma by being that touch better, not a major leap. Overall picture purity and depth of colours which look that bit finer and deeper with a slightly sharper look overall, compared to a blu-ray on the plasma. Up close the 4K wins hands down, compared to the plasma which you really have to watch at a distance. Between most cheap and expensive 4K TVs I do not notice that much between them with the newset models as I type, but I bought the B&O because they are so well built and have a reputation as being the best. Cheaper models tend to break easier and are not as durable. It is a shame that you cannot buy a 4K plasma TV. The picture on that would beat any LED, as LED TVs were always a cheaper alternative, certainly no way near as good as plasma. Any alternative for potential buyers is a 4K projector, they look fantastic and you can put them right up near the screen, the advance technology is from the projectors used in cinemas and the picture is intense, the colours are warmer as is the picture compared to plasma and LED, plus the picture movement looks the same as being at the cinema. The best experience for any fan wanting to watch the films as itended, it is just not quite the same on a TV. For 15 years I had a full HD Rear Projection TV which gave that near as cinematic experience, the picture was just so warm and a touch more natural. They are built like a tank and about as heavy as one. I have a Cabasse 7.2 surround speaker system runnning through a Denon AV receiver on my replacement TVs and I have to say, the built in surround 3D spacious sound in the Rear Projection TV was better, being more wider with a clear defined bass, not the deepest bass but so clear and thunderous at the same time, definitely better than any sound bar, and being tighter in sound than my Cabasse system, and the Cabasse is one of the finest. So rather than coming from all around it spread out from one central area with great effect. The rarity and cost of the replacement bulbs made keeping it a real issue. If only we could have 4K plasma TVs and 4k Rear Projection TVs, who cares if the Rear Projectors sticks out, minimalism that is the norm now is at the cost of higher-end quality. I would say my imaginary 4K plasma and 4K Rear Projection would just beat any 4K LED TV hands down, although my B&O beats any other 4K LED already. Thank you for your comparison video, and keep them coming, you help so many of us who find the whole business a bit of a complicated minefield.

One thing that plasma destroy's OLED (or any LCD's) is their upscaling feature: 720p looks absolutely fantastic on a plasma vs. 1080p on a 4k OLED. Still holding on to my beast of a Samsung 1080p Plasma television. 8000 series. The buzzing noise is real. watching content in day time is also a pain. BUT it's still quite amazing.

Got the blinking blue light a couple of months ago, which appearently is a common problem. Talked to a private dude from england on ebay, that used to service pioneer plasmas. Unfortunately he doesnt provide this service anymore. But, he may help me with getting hold of the small cheap component, and then solder it myself, or hopefully find someone who can help me. My Pioneer 5090 got alot of hours left in it, the build and imagequality overall is still great. Anyone who knows my problem I experience and can help in any way, with info or anything related, please write! Take care

@@koettfaers It seems this is the part : NJM2846DL3-18 IC It can be found in the UK still. Apparently the set is easy to take apart, I think the soldering would be the main issue. Best of luck, hope you get it sorted.

@@koettfaers Blinking blue light on my kuro was fixed for 80 eur here. Some guys still deliver parts and fix it. It was well worth it. My Pioneer PDP 507 has such natural and vibrant colors and great blacks, my other Panny TXP 42GT30 3D plasma i also have, could naver match. I'm keeping Kuro in my living room but just tomorow ordering Panny GZ950 oled for Panny replacement. It has some annoying logo burn in on 2 corners and 3D content is not strong enough to keep it. GZ950 I get new on a box for 1.100 eur cause it is last year model and managed to grab one of the last 2 available. It is a set Vincent said it is a TV set of a great quality for the price that rarely comes along. I hope I won't regret it.

@@niceasmay ok, where is "here" though? I still havent taken my time to find someone who can remove the part and solder a new back on. Ive talked to a guy on ebay who did repairs like this before, and he highly discouraged me of doing it on my own. Need to find someone who got experience with delicate electonics and soldering

I've had a Panny ST 65" plasma for 9 years, - great TV, never missed a beat. I've just pulled the trigger on a 4K OLED... - will find out next week if it was worth the upgrade!?!

@@daisyduck8593 I have so far watched it with standard blurays & HD content via Netflix & KZbin. I will be getting a 4k player soon, and upgrading my Netflix subscription. I have noticed the very odd bit of judder, it's not that common and seems to depend on the source... It's definitely offers more detail than my plasma, - and the big difference is the contrast, - particularly with blacks (when watching a film within a 'letter box', the bars are completely invisible (I have a false wall so it's impossible under low lighting to see where the actual tv frame begins or ends). I am very looking forward to watching more UHD content, however, for the moment I'm hugely pleased with my TV, - I have a hi-end sound system, and I feel that the picture has caught up with the sound if you see what I mean. As happy as I am with the OLED, I also now appreciate how good that plasma was, - given that it's 10 years older, it's not a million miles away.

@@Ma1efcent Oled will never beat plasma. The main issue is that while oled can get 0 blacks, they cannot go from 0 black to white instantly like plasma does. This is why you get slow response times, (black smearing) and poor near black handling, (quantization error). When an oled pixel is on, it is very fast but to mimic a plasma, you have to calibrate it with a non 0 black level. Like 0.001 cdm2. Your native contrast ratio will be still high like 100,000:1 and you will get minimal black smearing effect. Just hope that the uniformity at that black level is decent 😂

Last year I picked up a used 50 inch Panasonic plasma for my game consoles. Slapped the PMCv2 MLL mod on it. It taught me lots of stuff about picture quality and now I can no longer look at low-end sets. Looking forward to OLEDs when PS5 comes out.

Technical aspects aside I find the motion on my Pioneer Kuro plasma more cinematic than on my Sony A9G (every SOAP effect parameter turned off and calibrated). There is naturalness about the look on Pioneer Kuro

Thank you for including plasma which has been overlooked I think. The only thing that would improve this comparison would be to also add in the best of HDCRT so all the pinnacle of each generation could stand alongside one another. I still use an XBR960 and ST60 plasma but plan to upgrade to OLED when my budget allows. The 960 is still remarkable in many aspects despite its flaws and drawbacks.

Large line TVs have a fairly poor focus and convegence at the edges of the screen. I believe that this is also the case with your copy. Of course non-existent imput lag and perfect motion are the advantages of line technology unbeaten to this day. As crt technology achieves the best results on smaller screen diagonals, I believe that the quality of crt technology can best present a quality crt monitor, not tv

Thanks Vincent. I still have a Kuro in the bedroom for late night viewing. My 2013 pana plasma died from overheat which was replaced by a pana oled. Overheating seems to be a common problem with the final release Panasonic plasma models. The quest to make them thinner meant they ran hotter. The car reference was a good analogy. A new sports car is better than an old sports car however an old sports car is still fun to drive. Plasma was underrated technology here down under. The big retailers didn't want to sell them. It was the same with Panasonic OLEDs which are no longer available here either.

Thank you for this comparison. The fact you can find older Plasma TV's for cheap second hand is a good point for those on a big budget. People paid thousands for them back in the day, and they can't be terrible if they were worth such back then.

Robin I’m doing it now, getting an LG OLED CX tomorrow replacing my Panasonic plasma which I’ve had for 15 years. I’m mostly nervous about burn in. Never had any on the plasma.

@@woolgum There have been many advancements that should make burn in a LOT less likely on an OLED. Just be mindful about not having TV channels or game HUDS on screen for too long.

I've had the OLED for a couple of weeks now and the upgrade from my 11 year old plasma is mind-blowing. So far so good. Will make sure I'm using all the anti burn-in features (logo dimming, etc).

I had a pioneer krp500 for 12 years until February 2020 when I made the jump to the Panasonic gz950. And after 6 months of viewing lots of different feeds and resources I can say it's a noticeable and worthwhile upgrade 👍

You seem to know what you are talking about 😁. I am still enjoying my 2013 ZT65 plasma and I totally agree with you that no OLED comes close in terms of rendering the local SD terrestrial channels. Given this is a major use in our household I find it hard to justify a replacement!!

Totally agree, part of me wonders whether companies should offer 1080p oleds (as mid range models) as the difference at 55" is difficult to notice. That way normal HD wouldnt look a downgrade due to upscaling and I believe the most impressive aspects of oled, its blacks, hdr and rich colour would still exist.

I'd love to see a comparison of OLED and CRT. While it's less to peoples' buying decisions, it'd be good to see how close we are to replicating or surpassing CRT image quality and gaming performance. It's one of those "how far have we come?".

Will not change my 55VT60 and 42GT50 for a long time. Once all tv channels will be available on 4K maybe will talk about Oled again. I just smile of all LCD,QLED and Led outside. It’s a matter of fact Z,VT and GT series still wins some battles to many panels outside. The only exceptions are LG CX/GX series and that HZ2000. To see a plasma dated 2012/2013/2014 to have a comparison with a 2020 high end panel is just proof of what I say

I am using SONY Oled TV, and I used Plasma made in 2010 in the past.At the bottom of my heart, I have to say that the Plasma is as good as Oled.I will miss the plasma!
