Question: In a typical daytime scenario, would a matte OLED screen have WORSE blacks than a mid-range LCD monitor? 🤔 I.e. Even if the blacks on matte OLED screens aren't as good as glossy, aren't they still miles ahead of anything LCD can produce?
@patrikmedia4 ай бұрын
if you talk about WOLED, then yes. the blacks on those are like having an LCD fully turned off. although from my experience even shut off LCDs turn out to have a brighter display than OLEDs, likely due to the panel characteristics. as long as you dont shine a super harsh light directly on your WOLED, both glossy and matte will give you inky blacks. QD-OLED is a completely different story, I'm not a fan of those despite the superior color. Never go for QD if you care about inky blacks and don't want to use it in a fully dark room, even dimm lights will raise them and add a gray/purple tint.

Under normal circumstances, raising the minimum VRR frequency simply means that LFC kicks in when below that frequency, it doesn't mean VRR stops working completely. But I'm not exactly sure how this would work with 160 or 200 Hz on a 240 Hz monitor - typically LFC needs the monitor to be able to do the next multiple of the frequency, as in the lowest VRR range minimum you can do on a 240 Hz monitor would be lower than 120 Hz and often it needs a bit of additional headroom.

you can have 0.03ms response time, but refresh rate is the ultimate determining factor, at 240hz you need to be within 4.17ms and 360hz / 2.78ms, so having a 0.03ms response doesnt even matter atm, i dont know who to believe, but rtings input lag tests, the top 7 monitors tested for input lag are not OLEDS

The highest refresh rate panels are currently 1080p LCDs with backlight strobing. They are masters at that motion clarity but give up color accuracy, brightness, resolution, etc. The 4k240hz oleds this year are more jack of all trades master of some, but not that

Response time does matter a lot. An OLED at 120Hz will look basically as clear in motion as a 240Hz LCD if not clearer.

Yep, reading text on the glossy Asus is terrible, it looks like the text is ghosting, had to send back the monitor after trying. Alienware is much better, but you can't adjust brightness in HDR mode, while with Asus you can.

Is the samsung G60SD at $100 less on sale (matte 1440p 360Hz) a better deal than the ASUS monitor? Is it worth to pay extra for gloss for reduced RR?

I purchased the Asus XG27AQDMG and had to request a refund on the second day. The image retention was very bad, I'm talking the monitor's own boot up logo was being retained. The rep tried to tell me this was common with WOLED panels, which I know is incorrect given the time I had with the LG 27GR95QE. I've seen two other examples on Reddit, so it makes me wonder if there's a manufacturing fault.

Did the image retention retain after updating firmware and running the pixel cleaner/refresh ? I saw someone on Reddit that had it really bad as well but eventually managed to get rid of it.

I’m hoping for a LG G5 48” to replace my 48” c1. Any better recommendations?

Wait, does the APL and color limiting you mentioned also applies for the QD-OLED TV's? S90C, since I don't have anything but an LED Tv to compare and my phone's OLED screen.
