Super exciting! I would buy this over the DJI goggles even if the latency was the same as them. Having this kind of community support is going to be a real game changer.

Ryan, thank you for everything you've done for HDZ. The mechanical design of these goggles is near perfection, IMO. Some observations: 1) The top fan shroud can serve as an anchor should any new add-ons need to be mounted in the front, 2) the opening on the side recessed SMA should be wider so we can turn the SMA metal plug without a tool instead of twisting the antenna housing, and the most important/simplest, 3) ensure the swappable faceplate can accommodate the very flat and the very round faces. Thank you.

Fantastic to see the thought and effort that gone into the design of these goggles. Massively impressive. I hope Carl's thought about the warranty implications of essentially encouraging users to open up and mess with very fragile components and putting them into less than ideally designed and printed cases though... I'd hate to see a lot of "They won't support me!" posts once users are breaking their goggles. I won't be bothering to change a thing because honestly, I think this goggle is going to be as close to perfect as I can realistically hope for.
@RyanQuellet2 жыл бұрын
That's a valid point. People need to have realistic expectations of warranty by tearing the unit apart and modifying it. Still, this is a hobby were we build a lot of stuff ourselves, so it might be okay most of the time
@MrFowl2 жыл бұрын
@@RyanQuellet Maybe there needs to be a sticker covering a screw that says opening can void the warranty :/
@eatyourvegfpv2 жыл бұрын
@@RyanQuellet I really hope so, and there's not a good amount of people breaking goggle internals and trying to claim warranty support on them and making the goggles look bad, that's all. We all know how few claims of unreliability it takes and things get blown out of proportion and a reputation starts forming in this game. I'm a huge pessimist though so hope I'm wrong and just worrying for no reason.

HDZero will build a really dedicated user base (like myself) because of it. To think Carl was turned down by other manufactures because they didn't think he had a chance against the Goliath. When all is said and done he will certainly prove them wrong.

I'm very excited for these. I'm glad to hear that the strap connectors are metal. If you were a proponent of the power switch, I'm curious how useful you will find it when it's covered up by the cable. I think it's time to look at more creative solutions, like you are for the analog module.
@shadai73982 жыл бұрын
These things are absolutely perfect. Please shut up and take my money. If I had only one wish with these, it would be a USB port and the ability to run Linux Betaflight, so I could plug my quad into the goggles via Betaflight and make adjustments to it in the field. Might be wishful thinking, and I don't want to delay them any further but wow that would be cool tech right there.

I’m assuming that there is going to be massive cost savings and reduced pricing if we are printing our own goggles and assmebling the parts. I also assume that for those who do not want to print that there will be off the shelf solution approrpriately priced as well. I further assume that print your own and HDZero mailing us the innards would mean the goggles would run 250-300. I doubt I would print my own if I had to pay above $300 for the parts.

Looks like an exciting goggle and well thought through. The analogue module option would definitely be welcome by many, with the lower profile looks like it would be tight to the goggle strap bar though, I didn’t think the module was too bad on the first profile looked decent, at least it’s available on the goggle altogether. The add on analog module to make it look even a bit more sleaker and to help cool it. How about making it curved or sloped so it can take advantage of the fan next to the module to cool the analog VRX down. This is so amazing, really appreciate your effort in reducing the analog module housing bay size, although the pins port is protruding out a bit in the cad model i am sure it will be recessed inside completely in the actual product if not it will surely rub against the head strap or obstruct it. Also i am wondering if the overall goggle width can be reduced by another 5mm? I cant believe this, as a community we are all working together for creating this amazing goggle, its coming out really well, it seems the future vtx's are going have a reduced footprint & weight, how cool is that. Lets create a community designed Radio as well 😀. I am thinking a jumper t-lite with 2s power, Built-in ELRS similar to iflight commando 8 and digital hall sensor gimbals with edge TX. perfect.

The awesome thing about this is really how it turned from the Ugly duckling to this in so little time. The data pins for the wifi dongle - are they just going to be usb pins? or sdio? Can you also share the details of the processor / soc running Linux in these goggles? If the soc has a fast enough h264/h265 decoder.. that's + the wifi dongle is all that's needed to get something like OpenHD up and running. Imagine - strict 4ms latency for those who need that.. and pretty picture with retransmission and all that jazz - when you use the wifi + openhd. All in the same goggle!
@RyanQuellet2 жыл бұрын
Interesting idea. It does have h.264/h.265 encoders for DVR. I think a hybrid digital system would be really interesting
@saidinesh52 жыл бұрын
@@RyanQuellet Yep. If the decoder is a fast enough one (720p@120 as opposed to 720p@60), It would really kickass. (20-30ms latency maybe - allowing for up to 1 retransmission). Otherwise there's always the external module approach. But still worth it to try getting OpenHD running on the goggles. Since the wifi card is external, it should be easy to get a compatible one.

My concern is how the analog adapter and the analog module holding on onto the goggle. Analog modules are heavy and put strain onto the pins of not mounted with adequate support. Adding an anchor point or support for the module adapter on the metal strap hook would put less strain on the case of the goggle I think.

I'm a bit worried that the head strap will put some pressure on the analog module. Otherwise than that it looks great and it improved a lot, but i want to advocate again for a wider IPD range. Nobody will mention if the goggle is 2mm wider but it makes for many people a difference between a great goggle and an unusable goggle.

The STL files shown in this video no longer exist on the Thingiverse page or in Github (or anywhere else online that I've been able to find). There are .STP files, but these do not appear to be split into separate components appropriate for printing. What happened to this project?

Step files are the proper way to distribute CAD files, not STL. This is because the files are solid and modifiable. Please work a little more to find a way to use the STEP file for your purpose (aka almost all CAD programs)

@AlfieDoug2 жыл бұрын
At 6:22 he describes the focal adjustment requires optional dioptre inserts like most of the fat Shark range, extra hassle particularly if like me you share them with friends and relatives but I guess they must have a good reason for not including an integrated dioptre adjustment, the Fatsnail ones have it integrated I believe but the killer with those for me is the lack of HDMI in.

It might have just been a good idea to wait for this goggle. I love the design with it's slightly rounded edges. Also the ability to unscrew all the caps and start designing our own stuff around it sounds incredibly good. Repairability also seems unmatched by what we got so far - which is again amazing. I'm also glad it is capable of combining analog and HDZ. I just wish the analog module would just be part of the electronics and makes use of the same antenna array - but that's a small nuisance I can fully live with. I can at least keep using my Fusion module that way. Now I just hope for optics that will allow a great field of view without distorting the edges to the point, you can't read the osd anymore. I'd gladly be paying more for those lenses to be high quality and corrected. The future starts to look good again!
