Easy for someone to say "location: California" then simply ship it from China, or wherever else in the world. And they do this. Bought a key date type coin once, said New York, package actually started somewhere overseas have no idea where, arrived to some location in New York, re-labeled and sent to me through post office. I've been watching a listing on Ebay for a nice looking 1885 V nickel priced at $40.46 or best offer. All the things you described are present including the fact that they have already sold 26 and there are two available. The seller is in China. My dad always said that if it sounds too good to be true, then it almost certainly is not true. I intuitively knew this was a fake, which is why I never bid on it. Your posting was spot on. Another thing to beware of is if the seller has lots of revised feedback. Revised feedback only means that the seller is eliminating negative feedback. I don't know how or why Ebay allows them to revise so much feedback. Ebay didn't used to do this. I don't know why they think it's okay now.

It is so frustrating when shopping on eBay and fake coins pop up. Often, they are the top listing, and so obviously fake, $10 under spot for a coin that should sell for $100. There is no way that eBay doesn't already know it is a scam seller, but they take their money, and buyer beware. I first started buying coins on eBay and still think they have an excellent platform. I recently made a couple of purchases from Great Collections, but unlike eBay, you just don't know what your final price will be. I wish I could just shop at LCS, but that is not the case. I find myself thinking it might be time to exit and find a new hobby. 😢 The problem is I like gold and silver, and I just have to deal with the scum that's out there. On the other hand, I've met some really nice sellers on eBay as well.

It is an act of God to eBay on the phone. You have to start with their chat bot. Bottom right on desk top. Next problem lies in who calls you back. Some are top notch, and others will blow u off. Good luck.

I got pinched on this one as well. Got a 1876s half on an auction. Glad I only paid $10.50 for the coin. I had a higher blind bid but got lucky and was not outbid. I tried to leave a comment but the account was closed (or under review). Keeping it to teach others and show how to ID a fake. As soon as I opened the package I knew it was fake. Mine was in a some Chinese slab…. Thanks Daniel for all the great videos.

Desperate time for some LCS Coin Shops even Seller hard for cash flow. They take advantage of stackers our someone that doesn’t know any better. Every time I purchase anything especially Gold, I make sure it’s Tested in front of me before purchasing any precious Metals.

EBay doesn't care. I am looking to complete my Morgan CC set, and have purchased several on EBay (all legit). I'm looking for an 1885 CC, which at a minimum are $500+. There's several Buy It Now auctions for this coin in AU state for $30 per coin, from China or Hong Kong. I almost want to buy one just to report the seller. Would EBay force me to mail it back if the coin is fake?

I only buy from dealers on ebay, like Liberty Coin, Apmex and you'll know you're getting the real thing. I once bought a Morgan on ebay, the front was the same as the listing but the reverse was different, worse. So I buy silver in four categories, bullion, sovereigns, sterling and constitutional (junk), and have a pile of each.
