Dostal was LOCKED IN when he saw 87 on a breakaway. He tried, man. Great to see Crosby still showing off.
@fleatactical73902 ай бұрын
Sid putting on the brakes like he did was totally unexpected. Dostal never knew what hit him and went all goofy. But what an amazing goalie this kid is turning out to be! Anyone else and there would have been a 5 goal difference.
@thomaskeane57232 ай бұрын
I was at the game with my son, and it seemed like the Penguins were trying to shoot directly at the goalie for most of the game. With that and other gaffes like Letang simply handing the puck over, they were lucky to still be within 1 goal going into the 3rd. But yes, a fun game to be at; a ton of people (including both of us) wore costumes to the game.

Sid is exactly the kind of franchise player you want to bring to your team. He’s brought the city multiple championships and has always done everything the right way. He never got into any trouble off the ice and has always worked his ass off. I believe if we had moved some people for draft picks after our back to back cups, we’d be cup contenders now. In my mind, Sid was always the only one I wanted to see on our team for their entire career. I would have moved Malkin and Letang for some good draft picks after those two cups while their stock was high. If he had some high caliber younger players to play alongside him that developed over the past several years and a dependable goalie, we’d be in a great position to win another cup. I know he’s getting old, but he’s still THAT good.

Until the Penguins unload their entire coaching staff, as well as most of the front office, they will remain at the bottom of the league. Resigning their goalie at 50 times his actual value and allowing any good players they had to leave or trading them for nothing didn't help their cause. Soon it will be like the good old days at the igloo, free admission after the end of the first period and seats at the glass for the third! Loved those days as a poor college student in the 70's!
@cousinpatsey24712 ай бұрын
1) Sullivan is still a top coach in the league, you're not finding better than him easily. If you're getting a new coach, you're waiting to do so until someone fires a good one. 2) Jarry's contract was fine at the time. People forget, he was easily their best player for most of the two preceding seasons. He was winning them games. 3) That's how cup runs go. Every franchise gets it, it is unavoidable. Players want paid, the team can't afford to keep all of them. Either they trade them "for nothing", or they walk in free agency. That is every single team. Acting like the Pens shouldn't have done it is just arguing against the nature of the cap league.

They already won with him. He very clearly was never the problem. The problems started with Hextall's roster construction lacking direction, and the current lack of resources to build quickly. Coaching can only fix so much.

Of course they’re on a bad start. Crosby’s 37, Evgeni’s 38, Letang’s 37. They’re the SA Spurs of the NHL. They’re old as shit. It’s time to move Malkin and get something out of them while they still CAN. Crosby will retire a Pen that’s obvious. But they need to make some moves and get something that’s under 30 while they can. I’m tired of every line being over 30 dudes that can barely skate anymore. Yeah they still have their bag, they can still dangle and shoot the shit out of it, but their endurance and speed is beyond gone. It left years ago.
