@BeeTheBee3 ай бұрын
@AdriansArt I worded it that way for a reason. I'm aware it does, but it shouldn't. It's not a phrase that has any direct meaning, so being hurt by it is just hurting yourself. Like in this case, it should be a compliment as Shaun spent the whole episode saying the father wasn't a doctor and shouldn't be making decisions. At the end, Shaun saw promise that counteracted the negatives he saw earlier. Understanding that something does hurt, but shouldn't, is a big step in emotional regulation and a healthy mindset 💜

@Just_Sara3 ай бұрын
As a kid, being treated like someone who is training to be an adult someday can be VERY meaningful. When I was about 6 I was racing my mom down the sidewalk, and I won as I always did. Then it hit me, there was no way a kid should win a running race against an average adult. I asked her if she was letting me win, and to her credit she was honest and said yes. I asked if she would race me for real; she did, and I lost badly, but I'd never been so happy to lose before, or even since! :) I'll never forget that moment. In some weird way I was being treated like and equal, though a child equal. It meant so much to me.

As the oft-repeated apothegm goes "if you meet one autistic person, you have met one autistic person", a play on the adage "if you have met one ____, you have met them all", which people unfamiliar with ASD might assume applies as it might sort of apply to other disorders that are pretty typical when presenting.
