Every day plenty of parkour athletes do these types of drop jumps outside on the concrete, including Chris, but as soon as he did it in a gym it went viral 😂 Parkour founders have been doing some extreme drop jumps (e.g. 1000 depth jumps from 3 meters in a span of a few hours (not the brightest idea)) and they still jump today when they are in their 50s. Research, unfortunately, is so lacking when it comes to eccentric strength and drop/depth jumps, hopefully, that will change in the following years. Thank you for making this video, your thoughts were on point!!!!!

Imagine someone looking at 96 inch depth jump and assuming it is meant for a complete novice and not building up to that point as something that helps and might even be necessary rather than novelty.

In parkour, snarky know-it-all comments come with the territory. If you train parkour at all, you’re the butt of every joke.

Fantastic video as always. I have never heard of the depth jump before, fascinating concept and obviously something that should only be used intelligently.

Summer after college I worked for a moving company, and after jumping off the back of the trucks a few times (around 5 feet) I realized pretty quickly that it's not so simple as just dropping into a squat, my knees took a beating that summer!

Really enjoying the videos on different training practises. I like how they are relevant to different sports other than weightlifting. Some more videos on plyometrics would be cool

Bit unschooled on this sorcery, but it appears his heels only touch the floor after the "movement" has concluded. We need @standupmaths to do the weight value of his body at that speed, cause its pretty remarkable to me.

Almost seems like controls the descent for a perfect rebound, very impressive. If that’s me, I’d pancake like wile e coyote 😂 Negative comments don’t realize this is a trained skill, like Jesus squatting 1000 or Thor deadlifting 501.

John Evans explained that due to so much deformation on this depth jump he produced less power that an average athlete from a 35 inch box but with shorter ground contact. Cool jump tho it's impressive but the risk to reward ratio especially for jumpers weak.

@sika strength Can I squat in regular sneakers? Approximately 2-3 hours after the workout, squats or deadlifts in weightlifting shoes start to strain the knees.

It's fine if they are relatively flat soled. You don't want the heel roll possible with running shoes. For example, Converse All-Stars are a popular shoe for weight lifting. You can also squat barefoot.

Depth jumps were disproven by Olympic coaches decades ago. They are only useful for breaking your ankles and destroying your knees. And to be clear a tiny depth jump is not really a depth jump. Its just a waste of time. I love all the videos you have been making. I just disagree with this exercise and i dont trust the studies backing it.
