For non-french speakers: the man is actually pretty funny and not disrespectful. His "trash-talk" is mostly old french expressions. He has what seem to be a "pince-sans-rire" attitude, which means someone making jokes while keeping a straight face. His grumpy ways really reminded me of my grand father :) Super fun and interesting video, thank you!

At 5:50 there is a misunderstanding on the "joke" the guy in the back tries to do. The french player said "elle fait pas semblant" which literally would mean "she's not faking it" and the meaning is that she's playing seriously (and well). And then the guy in the back said : "c'est pas normal c'est une fille" (it's not normal, she's a girl) and Alexandra think he means it's not normal to play well as a girl. But the joke was actually that as a girl she should be "faking" (as girl are supposedly more likely to fake orgasms). Not saying this is funnier or less sexist that way, but in french it would be more a naughty comment than an attack on her skills.

@@Isa-it7df I think she completely misunderstood what the guy in the background said. There was nothing about "girls can't play chess". The old man said "she's not pretending" (meaning she's playing seriously) and the guy said "it's not normal she;'s a girl", the joke being that girls tend to pretend/fake it a lot (during sex). That's how I understood the joke. That goes to show you that jokes can be very difficult to understand when you don't speak a language very well and she jumped to the conclusion on that one.

Nobody said anything about women not playing chess well. Someone in the crowd said it was not normal for a girl to not be nice, and of course Alex translated that as "It's not normal for a girl to play chess well." She has always had a chip on her shoulder because she believes men don't think women are good chess players, even though she and other female players are widely accepted and praised by the vast majority of fans and male chess players. Also the title is nice clickbait, although it paints her very classy and kind opponent as a bigot.

I don't think he was in a winning position but he did have somewhat of an advantage in that he had connected rooks plus he was more than a minute up on time on Alex. Would have been interesting if he had played pawn C5, rather than blundering a checkmate of all things

Nah he was winning, he had rook takes Rxe4, fxe and then Nd2 forking the pawn and the rook, the rook can't defend the pawn because of king f2. She'd be two pawns down with no attack and very low on the clock... But he blundered and looked stupid in the end.

The title refer to the other guy talking at 5:45 . But then again the joke wasn't about her level of play. THe player was saying : "She's not pretending to play" "She's playing for real, it's difficult" so a guy cracked a joke : "It's not normal she's a girl lol" the implication being "girl are usually good at pretending". I'm french. Pretending is sexually connoted in french.
