Tani, an 11-year-old National Master, has been a regular opponent of Alex in online blitz matches, now they bring their grudge to a real chess board in Washing Square Park! Drop a like and tell us in the comments, if you expected such level of trashtalk from a young chess prodigy.

Hmmm I think Alex's trash talk was genuinely better but the kid backed his up where she did not. If you were to look at the raw dialogue by both players without the context of the games Botez's trash talk is objectively smarter/more creative but that is to be expected when comparing your avg 11 year old to your avg 27 year old. (I do not mean avg in terms of chess obviously, I mean avg as in their command of the english language). That being said, I do suppose part of good trash talk is whether or not you can back it up. Either way, I think it's reasonably debatable as to whom won the trash talking.

He's super talented, sharp, measured. And surgical. Kudos to him. Able to unsettle opponent with trash talk. But Magnus trash talk is another level. I just saw him play in the blitz world championship, arranging his pieces AFTER the clock started for like 20 seconds. That's ultimate trash talk. Saying to the opponent "you couldn't beat me" even if I had extra time. And the way Magnus did it, with no direct cues, can really get into an opponents mind.

For those who didn’t get how she lose the game after check @ 4:04 After check by Queen it’s not a check mate game is still on.. as king has a place to move at F2 . But after that move she will lost her Rook by simple pawn attack at E5 . So after such moves boy in super advantage as he have rook + queen & now girl only have queen. Yes game is technically not over at 4:04 but there is no meaning to continue such one sided game. How?? That’s d next few moves… After check- white king move to F2 Than - black pawn attack rook at E5 Than - white queen may take one of pawn either C5 or E5 Than - black queen again give check to white king who now at F2 by killing A2 pawn Than - white king need to move to save check Than- B3 white Pawn gone & so on…. In short after check by queen there is no mean to continue d game as it’s just wastage of time .

You will notice that the black pawn at d6 is attacking White's remaining rook, but White is in check, so she is forced to move her King to safety or block. Moving the White king to safety as you suggested leads to pawn takes rook. Blocking with the rook just results in it being taken by the Black queen, and blocking with the queen is even worse.
