Cost of living (for sure) many dating options, weather, and not being invisible. * I think it's also a GREAT option for a temporary change, to reset.. so lose weight, save money, de-stress. So you don't need to make a life-long decision. My navy pension is $2500. In San Diego, that barely pays the rent in a decent area.. barely! Total monthly costs were $6000 with condo, car, insurance, gas, phone, bills, food, etc etc. In the Philippines, I can live a GOOD life for $1500.. save $1000.. and NO.. STRESS.

I love Mike’s channel. He’s a lot like I am. I can relate to him I’m an old Construction Crane Operator about ready to retire in 497 days till I can turn in the paperwork. Mike’s definitely helping me with my decision on moving to Southeast Asia or the Philippines. I still haven’t made up my mind 100% but I’m going to give Thailand a little chance first and then go to the Philippines. I’m going to slow travel around Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, just all over the place and then make up my mind like he said in the video. Can’t wait to slow travel for a year all over Southeast Asia. I might even do it over a two-year period and do six months during the good weather. And return home, but the airline tickets are so damn expensive.

Hi Chad, I’ve been enjoying your videos and interviews with the expats! I met a Filipina online a while back and after a year of online dating I went to meet her in person and we were married on 10/10/09. I would love to retire there but my health prevents it. Stage 3 kidney disease. It is for sure beautiful. It would be cool if you could do a little interview with their wives also. My wife and I will be visiting in Feb. 2024 for the whole month. With love to meet up if you’re near Manila at that time. God Bless!

I made the pilgrimage to Dumaguette and realized I don't fit in. Not blaming anyone in town. It's me. I spent time in Ground zero and attended the Meet and greet with my wife. Mike's wife Janet was very nice to my wife. Wish you all the best, but I'm 12 years in and raising 2 kids, so I have little in common with bloggers here.

Thanks for sharing. Fascinating. 😅
@MS-oz2wu Жыл бұрын
What does this mean? You don't care for Dumaggety, l get this part. (My concern is the not fitting in. For example I hate sports. Nothing to talk about there. I don't drink. I don't drink coffee). Can you function in PI without fitting in. Many have said you need back up, even Gio says you need back up. So, are you still in PI.
@Thephilipcartmelexperience Жыл бұрын
@MS-oz2wu There's over 7,000 islands. James likes Iloilo, Tim K liked Leyte, and Jonathan likes Bohol. Dumaguette is just one more of the same. I live in Cebu and am leaning more to provincial life. The Philippine people are amazing. The infrastructure is improving. With solar panels and Starlink why would anyone want congestion and noise when I can get 4 hectares of oceanfront property with a house and fenced yard for the same money as a 993 meter simple lot on the beach because its near Dumaguette? The other issue is the Chismas that goes on in Dramaguette. That's a waste of my time. It may be great for views by bloggers as trolls abound everywhere, but I spent my career catering to customers who paid me good money, so why would anyone bother with those who don't. Like I said, we have 2 young children who are my focus. The one criticism I have (and maybe it's the way I was raised) is that when I invite someone to my house, I at least offer them a glass of water. After I got home, I went through every blogger I subscribed to and checked how much they charge to be their friend. $49.00 / month on average, and you expect an interview for nothing. I'm going to review them all and do a video (which no one will watch) and I'll detail exactly what I think.

Sadly the sun does not always shine in the Philippines, what about the crowded traffic, holes in the streets that can take months to be fixed, out-of-stock stores, mosquito seasons, and bad service in the hospitals to mention a few things? There is pro and cons like other countries, but it is a fact that most people if they survive leaves the Philippines when they reach 70-75 year old. Mike can live for $2k, some can live cheaper and some need much more, it all depends on the lifestyle they choose. The reality in the Philippines is like Mike said when he left Bohol, the same boring ritual every day but in the end, it will be like that for most people no matter where you live in the Philippines. Of course, there are foreigners who enjoy life till they die in the Philippines, it would be strange if it was not. WelI, I have more experience than most of you KZbinrs there in Dumaguete about life in the Philippines, and sometimes funny to listen to expert advice from people who have lived there for 6 months or so. On the other hand, I love the people in the Philippines, the food, and the climate but there are better options around the world and it can even be cheaper than the Philippines. By the way, great interview, straight to the point, and good video quality.

I enjoy watching some of these expat KZbin videos, although most of the Dumaguette ones are ALL THE SAME. It’s interesting to hear some of these guy’s transition to a freer’ type of life than the BS hassles of the West. Does every expat in Dumaguette Vlog? Seems so! I live in Davao for part of the year and have quite a few expat friends and I have not once met a vlogger. I myself couldn’t imagine moving to the Philippines and having to rely on a vlog channel to help support my finances, not that its not good for someone else. Seems as if theres a large community of friends there. Anyway, If I was a westerner thinking about transitioning to the Philippines and only had a $1000-1,500 in supported income (not enough) I wouldn’t rely on becoming a vloggers extra income to be my savior. You better be prepared to have at least $2000-2500 if you plan on taking in a woman and possibly children.
