When bahamut appeared I immediately thought about Bahamut from Final Fantasy X due to way the dragon just stood there with his arms crossed, and his overwhelming power. And the use of elemental crystals and fighting large mythical creatures centered around said crystals and elements made me think of Mystic Quest for the SNES. A good looking anime.

I haven't played the game, but from watching the anime I assumed he actually died and became a summon after what Lyria did, which is why he suddenly had such connection with other summons. As such I was fully expecting him to eventually go the "now I must leave this world" route like it happened in final Fantasy 10.
