I think it's a bit childish in terms of having enmeshed boundaries with the mother. I am very close with my parents but I don't want them in my personal business with everything I do or encounter. Would you want your husband to go tell all his family, say, if you had a dry vagina and needed help with it ? Some things need to stay personal and not be told to extended family.
@venusretrograde61777 ай бұрын
@@canonaler I personally don’t think that’s a fair comparison. I definitely think it would be inappropriate to talk about your partners genitalia with your parents however, I don’t think it’s inappropriate to discuss something that they did; especially something that you are having a moral issue in accepting. I’d say it would be appropriate for a woman to seek counsel on something like this from her mother. Some people don’t have friends they can talk to about this kind of stuff.

I think the confusion is that many of us think the brothers were just sharing the wife, not being sexual with each other. Incest is if the brothers were physically sexual with each other. Sexually attracted to each other and act on it. This seems to be a threesome where the focus was on the woman involved. In the spectrum of unhealthy and not appropriate, one is WAY greater than the other, but certainly both instances most people wouldn’t say is healthy or showcases good judgement. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a good relationship with your mom and being able to talk with her about difficult situations I find that to be very healthy as long as you are your own person and make up your own mind.

There is nothing wrong with calling your mom for advice. That is ridiculous. That said, I think his comment about people pleasing is correct and you do need to have your own values and surround yourself with people who share your values.

Yep. Happy to hear that I wasn't the only one thinking this when I was listening to the podcast earlier and he seemed to be going in on her harder than needed there.

agreed there is nothing wrong with calling your mom. Just because she is an adult that doesnt mean she cant call her mom for her 2 cents.

I think Delony often gives advice based on his own poor relationship with his parents, considering that he's said that his parents don't have the right to speak into his life but some friends do, and that he has drawn firm boundaries with his family and chooses not to see them on most holidays and events. This varies based on whether he relates more as a parent or as a child of parents that he feels did him wrong -- if the former, he'll advise protection, if the latter then he'll give them hell for not having firm rules for the relationship that are guarded by the promise of removing their presence.

If the parent is able to treat their childs marriage the same being in the loop or out of it then I think it's ok to go to a parent. Friends are one thing but parents that have a negative outlook on your marriage that don't hold their opinions in can be damaging for the marriage/relationship the rest of your life.

I agree. I hate the notion of "you are an adult so you have to deal with everything alone". Some of us cant afford to pay someone to listen to our problems. Besides its nice to lean on someone who is older and wiser.

Theirs actually horror movie where everyone body comes together and they have sex but they attatch it's so weird. It's called The Society I believe and it kind of reminds me of this...I feel like they are trying to get others to join. If anything you should really watch that movie it's so bizarre.I can't explain it but it reminds me of some creepy gang bang. Nasty.

My first thought is I doubt a guy who’s ok with borderline incest (we don’t know if he actually had sex with his brother) isn’t into the stepmom category as well. He moved in and she’s the same age like come on.

You ask your mom for recipies and for what not. And for support, of course. But you don't ask your mom whether you should be appalled by something that is obviously appalling. Not by that age anymore. Your moral maturity should be formed by then.

Is the son telling his “step mom”this because he’d like to try it with her?

That's what I got out of this whole episode. He was testing her boundaries with her reaction. If she had said "cool." He would have taken that as open season.
