The last time I saw Pinafore was the DOyly Carte's production 1978 in Boston. When this was sung the first time at the end of the song the audience gave a prolong burst of appluse, which took the company and conductor by surprise, as this never happens. Yes, it was Opera Australia - who are based at the SOH - but this particular performance was recorded at the State Theatre, Arts Centre, Melbourne, in 2005. (And I was sitting in the front row.)
