This is GREAT Star Trek. I want all of you to listen/read up: I'm now in my sixties and i was here in THE Sixties (albeit much younger) when Star Trek launched. Not even two seasons behind them, author David Gerrold revealed in a later interview how depressed he had become because he had received hate-fan mail over "The Trouble With Tribbles." Complaints over how stupid it was, how the crew would never say or do those things, how it wasn't real Star Trek. He disassociated himself from that episode. Several months later he was asked to speak at some sort of writer's gathering. During his introduction it was mentioned he'd penned an episode of Star Trek. A member of the audience asked him which one. He was hesitant but the audience insisted. David was bowled over when, after embarrassingly admitting it was TTWT, the audience rose in cheers and a standing ovation. All you haters and gate keepers on this thread explaing how bad LD and SNW are, and how these things aren't real Star Trek, remember: Gene (if you need his last name you don't belong here) envisioned a positive inclusive future for humankind. Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. Some of you are showing you're not destined to be part of that future. I'm not a gate keeper. Just an observer.

No one has remarked on the planning that had to have gone into this. Animation characters are normally designed and then the voice actor is chosen with no reference whatsoever to the character's appearance. But these voice actors look exactly like their characters. That means they must have had this crossover in mind from the very beginning of the Animated Series. Very impressive.
@Kaedren9 ай бұрын
Likely the character design was influenced after casting so that the animators could line up facial expressions and mannerisms with how the lines are delivered by the cast. Looks more polished that way. Which then gave us the bonus of live action with the actually actors.
@vitrify9 ай бұрын
Quite frequently, in western animation, the animators will use video of the voice actors recording as reference for the animated characters (mannerisms, facial reactions, hand movements, etc). Thus, the characters looking similar to their actors, especially since there isn't a large age gap, makes sense.

I also remember them saying they did a bunch of mowcap with them, so it makes sense that their animated character looks like them
@emilylewis53739 ай бұрын
adding. It really depends on how the animators want the character to look, if they are sold on a certain look or not. For example in clone wars they used Katie Sacroff for Bo Katan, but didn't use Ashley really for ashoka. @@vitrify

Boimler's reaction to finding himself on the Enterprise is exactly the reaction I had when I went through The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas in 2003 then my wife and I went through it together in 2005. The way the engineers behind it designed the "beaming up" of all of us to the Enterprise itself was beyond amazing. The corridors, turbolift, bridge, Quark's Bar, and Borg were masterfully done. I went through it twice solo, with my wife twice, and we both went through the "behind the scenes" presentation. I wish everyone watching this video could have experienced it all. It was truly, truly a breathtaking piece of engineering design. Too bad it was all destroyed in 2008 just to expand the hotel's casino; it'll never be available again.

This should not work, AT ALL. And yet, it's absolutely brilliant. Have to hand to NuTrek, after a few years stumbling about in the dark knocking things over, they've found the lightswitch.
@Lurreable9 ай бұрын
Does it though? They're clearly cartoon characters fangirling over the main cast for 40 minutes while solving a simple problem only there to pass the time. It's nauseating. And that's without even considering that its clearly an ad dreamed up by the marketing execs drooling over crossover synergies.
@stephenjohnston76309 ай бұрын
@@Lurreable Lower Decks is a sitcom where the characters are all 21st C Trekkies somehow serving on a TNG-era starship, and SNW is a spinoff of a spinoff (repeat as necessary) that only exists to re-visit TOS IP, so obviously your enjoyment of the episode will somewhat depend on whether you enjoy those two things. Despite the cold hard commercial motivations behind their very existence, both shows somehow demonstrate a lot of passion from the creators and performers. Personally I think this is a skillfully-done successful bit of fun that incorporates the, to coin a phrase, best of both worlds.

I was excited, but nervous, hence I heard out about this crossover, especially when I saw it specifically went from the cartoon world to the live action world and wasn’t just a short little cameo. But they did such a good job on it, this is definitely one of my favourite episodes of Star Trek. They played it off so well.

I enjoyed this ep way more than I expected to. I'm not a big fan of the cartoon but the actors crossed over wonderfully and the humor really seemed to work on this show, which can sometimes get a little too serious. It was nice to have a laugh at some of the classic "Because it's StarTrek, try not to think on it too much" moments.

An interesting thought just occurred to me. Boimler is supposed to be short in Lower Decks, but he is quite tall here on Strange New Worlds. Maybe he's the same size, but the SNW crew are generally smaller, given that he went back in time. Sorta like Napoleon wasn't actually short for his times. Of course, Jack Quaid being 6'1" has nothing to do with it. 😂

According to Google, he's 6'3"... which would put him around the same height as Riker (Frakes). And therefore 11" taller than the 5'4" La'an (Chong).
