Yep. Went on a faux fox hunt (no foxes were harmed, the fox was just a dude on a horse with a 15 minute head start) and let me tell you, no one warned me that my sweet pony was a former barrel racer, and stopped on a dime, leaving me in the grass approximately 10ft in front of him with a newly sprained elbow😂

This happened to me, I got a new horse for my 12th birthday and the owner said the previous owner had him trained real well. Well, I get on this thing and start to get comfortable, I get him on a good trot and as soon as the “w” syllable in “woah” left my lips he was rock solid and I was flying over his head😂😂

Horses who have a lot of buttons tend to have a lot of miss communications especially when they have a new handler, he doesn't look stressed or like he's being forced, he's just trying to please Crops aren't just used for beating babe If you think that then you shouldn't use one

Please educate yourself before making comments. The whip is used as an extension of his arm. Its used as a focus. If you think it's used to hurt, then you need to do some research. Comments like yours can harm good trainers with uninformed opinions.

I agree. I have seen training videos where the horse is whipped mercilessly to make him pick his feet up like that. Shameful.

That's why I have never taught my horses any of those tricks with my clicker training. They will offer things & didn't want them offering a leg out. Instead we just do "stand quietly" while I put medicine in your eye & clean your sheath & whatever. Things that are practical to help a horse understand what we need to work together. Stand for the hoof trimmer even when your stifles hurt from arthritis is a good trick! No need for Spanish walks.

@@laxxla it being involved raises the statistics of accidental hits or abuse and in some cases, the horses anxiety level from it simply being involved
@laxxla7 ай бұрын
@meredithcondon2375 It would only be a cause for anxiety if previously misused, and there is no reason to assume that. A properly trained and desensitised horse shouldn't have an issue about a whip merely being present. How would they know how it could be used? Also, that argument could be made about many things. If someone wants to abuse an animal, they'll use whatever is at hand. A whip, a rope, even a bucket. It's not about what you use; it's how you use it that matters. Actual abuse should always be called out, but paranoia and baseless accusations need to be kept in check, not encouraged. They can cause good trainers to be unjustly accused.
@meredithcondon23757 ай бұрын

@RavenSaint17 ай бұрын
Hyper extension involves weights and the horse throwing its legs out. See Tennessee Walkers and Standardbreds who are put into the wedge shoes for the front feet and how they are forced to do specific gaits known for in their breed. There are groups trying to ban the use of those weighted wedge shoes, soring, and chains.
