I’m glad you pointed out the Fountain boat. I know the owner of the company, Reggie Fountain. Super nice guy that has stories to tell! Invited my boss and I to bring our families to join him and take us over to Morehead City for lunch. He’s made boats for US Presidents and had meals & meetings with upper crust society. He’s so gracious and a very down to earth man. I can’t wait!

Hi Alfred, You knew what you were doing when you set up The Chit Show didn't you? There are a load of wallys over there with no idea what to do aren't there? I've been watching your shows a long time now, and not once have I seen anyone using a simple boatman's knot. They just wind the painters round and round the 'poles of fate', taking a long time to do it then missing the aft painter.. All they need to do is take one turn round a pole and a looped half-hitch. If there is only one crew, tie the bow first then the stern. It's quick and easy. to release the knots, simply pull the loose end which can be coiled if the boat is to be left longer.

@2009dudeman2 жыл бұрын
A lot of people think their dually truck will give them better traction at the ramp. It won't by much. Essentially the only extra traction you get is from the heavier springs, extra weight of two rims and tires, and the extra weight in the axle itself. Otherwise yes you do have two extra tires, but that means you are spreading the weight over those two extra outer tires and reducing the weight on the inner two. Weight on a tire is what gets you traction. On a slick ramp a dually can actually have less traction than a normal truck even if both have about the same total weight on the rear axle. I've done this test myself with my own dually when the local ramp is slick (no worries it was raining and no one was using it so I wasn't clogging up the ramp). Because I wanted to see what affect tire pressure has on traction on slick ramps. We know what dropping tire pressure does offroad and on sand, but this was new to me. With my rear tires at 60psi I could break free of the ramp at about quarter throttle. Dropping them down to 40psi it took almost half throttle. It's not a very scientific test, but I goto some slick ramps sometimes where the algea is thick on the ramp and sliding my truck into the water is NOT what I want to do. I found that just 20psi is a SIGNIFICANT boost to traction on a dually. I do not know if that change is as impactful on a single rear wheel truck or not given when running off road my dually floats on top of sand and thick mud more than my buddies single rear wheel trucks. Input on that is welcome. As far as concerns about tire pressures, consult a tire inflation chart and scale your truck and boat to see what your actual axle weights are. The door sticker on my truck says 70psi on the rear, but that is for a load in the bed of 5,000lbs. When running empty the rear tires look like doughnuts at 70psi. On a load table the minimum pressure would be 30psi to exactly match the load capacity of the tire and the axle weight. Stick in a safety buffer and 40-45psi on my truck when unloaded or lightly loaded gives me the proper tire contact patch and tire wear.

I have seen many 2 wheel drive dully rear wheel drive trucks that cannot pull out a 21 ft ski race boat. People with those trucks are all about image. The reason they cannot pull out a boat is because they only have the same weight on 4 wheels as you have on two which equals less traction. The amount of weight per square inch is less than if you had the same weight on a single wheel axle. Your statement that 4 wheel drive is king on the boat ramp is king is correct. Happy Boating
