Hi Katie, you did ok, it wasn't THAT bad... a simple way to learn how to back up with a trailer is to keep your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and whichever way you move your hand the trailer will travel in the same direction. I hope this helps... Have a Blessed day Dear...
@paulwarner82967 ай бұрын
Not great advise on hand at bottom of steering wheel. 1. Start from a straight back position not in a jackknife. 2. Go slow with slow/ small adjustments left and right- too fast you jackknife. 3. If you fold too much then pull up to straight again( just a few feet) and start back again

A "Rule Of Thumb" when loading your boat, back your trailer into the water leaving the boat trailer fenders slightly above the water and/or two to three feet of the front of your bunks out off the water, most folks back too far into the water, (if your trailer fenders are under water you are in too far) causing all kinds of problems. Remember, 99% of all problems are the result of being in too deep. Simply drive your boat onto the trailer, if you are slightly off center, it will usually self-correct when it slides up the bunks. You may have to goose it slightly to get it all the way on the trailer. Have your partner connect the cable or strap to the front and winch it tight, install the safety chain and now pull the boat and trailer out of the water. Find a safe place away from the ramp traffic to stop and unload your boat and make it ready to travel down the road. Safe boating!

Big Dan. Thanks to your videos and analysis of people loading their boats, I taught myself to power load. Not sure if that's a thing up here in NY state or not, but it's a valuable skill. Walking the boat onto the trailer works sometimes, but I like to have options. It's critical to know "why" things ain't goin right, like having the trailer too deep, and having the boat sit on the trailer fender, and wonderin' why it won't stay in the center.

Most people don't realize,ya don't try to float the boat over the centerline of the trailer,you let the bunks guide u on.u let the front of the bunks about usually 12" or so,then when you hit them u can feel the boat drop in middle,then if ure stern is outta line,u use the motor ta push the rear of the boat left or right to align the boat.once u align the boat,then trim up sum and use the engine to push u into the bow stop,steering the whole time to keep the keel aligned with center of trailer.if u have a driver,in truck leave the outboard in gear pushing down and and foward on the craft while they pull u out of the water to keep the boat nose in the bow stop.if not u can slide rite back off the trailer.when the prop clears the water,drop her in nuetral,while he is pulling u,and kill the engine.if ure by ureself,then ya mite have ta go hook ure boat to the winch to keep it on the bunks.i've loaded a boat prob a thousand times and this is the way I do it,and I haven't had probably a handful of probs this way.only if ya have alot of wind or current pushing the boat off center.she'll drop rite in,this way.if u have swivels on ure bunks,tighten em down,or weld em off where they do not move,there designed ta center it up.let the trailer do its job,it'll do it better than u can. P.S.-good rule of thumb: when ure back ing in,my tops of my fenders,about 4"-6" inches out,is about perfect,on my bass boat with a tandem on it".any questions p.m. me.

I was curious if there's videos like these at boat ramps in the greater Seattle area, but I couldn't find any so either Seattle boaters don't make mistakes (except for an occasional boat fire) or people aren't interested (unless it's a boat fire)? ;-D It doesn't help you, someone saying its not called a "bumper" or "fender", so what is it called? ;-) At 16:17 to 17:37; somethings odd, the front left trailer tire isn't moving, maybe the axle or frame is messed up? I can't see how someone of average income can afford a boat, at the prices dealers are asking? There needs to be a "No Wake" detent (gate) or button on the throttle.

Hey Dan, I've called it both a Fender and a bumper, it doesn't really make a big difference to me it still does the same job either way... I just can't seem to get over all the people that power load onto the trailer, I guess they don't realize that it tears up the launch, and you end up with a huge drop off near the end of the ramp where the tires on the trailer end up, up here in Southeast lower Michigan it's prohibited. However even with the big signs posted all over, there are still those illiterate people in their Bass boats, fishing a tournament, that do it anyway. Why do some of these people have all of the people stay on the boat when loading onto the trailer? It seems to me that it would be much easier to get out of the boat onto the dock, then have to climb down once it is up on land. It also would alleviate the balancing out of the boat going onto the trailer... I guess that's why I watch your channel, people watching can be quite comical at times... Have a Blessed day Sir and thanks for the good time and the laughs... Dan

With my VERY small boat, I like to have about one foot of bunk OUT of the water, the rest submerged. That lets the boat "self center". Usually works pretty well. But my boat is so light I can pull the stern to a center position on dry land if it comes out of the water kiddywampus on the trailer. But all those details might be different on a larger boat.
