When our children were younger, to explain that we did not have an endless supply of money, we said that we could have "A" or "B" but not both. Also our daughter was working but still living at home so we charged her rent (way below market rates) as she would have to pay out if she had a place of her own. We didn't spend the money, we put it in a savings account and when she did get a place of her own, we gave her the saved money so that she could buy equipment and furnishings etc.

Great reaction. Kevin's routine is not just hilarious it is economically on point as well. His idea to give more money to the poorest as they are more likely to spend it (& hence produce more tax revenue) is one of the key principles of John Maynard Keynes. His economic policy of increasing government spending to exit a recession is the way that the US escaped the Great Depression in the 1930's. Sadly this view is out of fashion & has been replaced by the myth of Trickle-down economics where tax cuts for the rich are meant to stimulate the economy, unfortunately the rich tend to hoard their money instead in offshore accounts in tax-havens like the Cayman Islands.

Ironically, the term was created by Will Rogers back in 1937, as an attack on the way Hoover approached the Great Depression!

"This election was lost four and six years ago, not this year. They [Republicans] didn't start thinking of the old common fellow till just as they started out on the election tour. The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes that it would trickle down to the needy. Mr. Hoover was an engineer. He knew that water trickles down. Put it uphill and let it go and it will reach the driest little spot. But he didn't know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night, anyhow. But it will at least have passed through the poor fellow's hands. They saved the big banks, but the little ones went up the flue."

@@welshgit That term was but the idea is much older, as is criticism of it. In the late 19th century US the term used was 'Horse & Sparrow Theory'. It's a lie that has been spotted for what it is for at least 150 years.

It isn't a "debt" - it is the value of everything that gets counted. A road "worth" $10m counts as a $10m "debt" because you have the road not the money! Digging up the road does NOT give you the $10m!! They lie to you!!!

Truth in comedy right here. It's absolutely true that rich people who get tax breaks etc. just keep hold of the money gained whereas people on the lower level of income will definitely spend it in most instances therefore supporting businesses and creating more wealth all round but unfortunately the people in charge of such decisions belong to the opposite end of the spectrum and look after their own interests and the interests of their country club friends.

Kevin bridges 90s house party comparing American house parties to Scottish. Hilarious Also "working at Poundstretcher for self esteem" another dig at politics. You could go on and on. He's never had a bad show.
@MartinJames3892 ай бұрын
This must be at least 8 or 9 years old, so it's more history than politics. Cameron was how many prime ministers ago? Let's work backwards ... Starmer > Sunak > Truss > Johnson > May ... out of fingers now, have to use the other hand .... Cameron. There ye go! Deficit isn't debt, of course. Kevin Bridges seems to have the two a bit muddled up. With debt, the answer is that the government owes all that money to ... wait for it now ... mostly itself! One pocket owes another. It's the same with any government. Obviously they don't understand economics in Radnor Park, Hardgate or wherever it is up the hill there Kevin Bridges comes from. It must be the altitude. Down by the river in Yoker and Whitecrook, we're much better informed, see. We come from the same town and no, Clydebank isn't in Glasgow, as many people seem to think. Near, but not the big wicked city, rather the adjacent town which used to build ships and make sewing machines but doesn't do either any more.
