Interviewing someone that doesn’t seem to want to answer questions is not of much help
@PaulProsperInvestmentsАй бұрын
Great interview. I had no idea this type of book existed. A definition and example of what a public domain book upfront would have been helpful. I had to do some research on Google and come back to the video to get a better understanding of what public domain books are. This is eye-opening stuff and a whole new angle to self-publishing for a newbie like me. Thanks!

This was very enlightening. I am an illustrator and I have illustrated children's books but also classics for publishers like The Folio Society and I am right now illustrating my first public domain book to publish myself, I am so excited! I can illustrate so many awesome books and keep full control. And the profit. I think I am done illustrating for other people.

Interesting interview, Sean. Every business model has its challenges. For public domain books, the authors and titles pretty much market themselves, so you don’t need to worry about reviews, A+ content, or social media. But the cost comes in with formatting (a big headache if you do it yourself) and, of course, the cover-just like with low, medium and high content books. And the biggest thing is knowing public domain law because Amazon bot is the real gangster when it comes to this. If you don’t know the rules, your books could get blocked left and right, and that could even lead to account suspension.

Great interview and fully understand why he was being protective of his niche / USP. Hadn't realised public domain books were an option although great to hear of these types of opportunities

This is perfectly timed because I was just working on a project using PD content and was wondering how to make sure it gets some traction on KDP. Perfect timing.

Public domain can be a quick way to get your account banned. Especially if you are publishing outside of the US as copyright rules differers from country to country. I’ve heard of several people losing their accounts over this after they put a couple of years into building their account, and who were doing well in other book types.

You know I had a think about this video because it irks the hell out of me. I pay my rent & grocery bill with KDP. Have for a long time now. That's the whole point to make a net profit, save your money or spend it & have a business with a value based upon your net revenue over time. But if you dont actually have a net profit what have you got? A hobby? Vengeance upon other publishers? He claims that if he stops launching & runs ads he will have net revenue but you dont actually know until you have let it run for 2-3 months. I know from looking at many publishers there are those that make nothing. To make nothing because all your income is spent on ads is crazy. Worst of all imagine if thousands of people start doing this. Maybe they have cash they need to wash or whatever. It drives up ad costs and kills niches. Basically if you are not making a decent net profit do us all a big favour. Stop buying ads and find a different business model. Also we dont know his promo strategies or costs but if its all advertising what exactly is the point when there is zero net profit and no upsell?

What is this guy talking about Sean!? Copy and paste!? He hasn't read Amazon's guidelines even ones. This is not publishing a public domain book all about. Design a new cover and there you go. His account will be terminated sooner or later. Guys, just read about publishing a public domain book, read guidelines, don't do what he says.
