But science NEEDS this to happen to be rigorous. Likewise, most directors don't want to just do an 'adaptation'. They'll never build their reputation and freedom that way! a MOTU adaption should feel like a fantastic mix of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (the good ones) and Conan the Barbarian. Basically you get your Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery with a little touch of Sci-Fi. It doesn't have to be ultra serious or super campy... but it does have to have heart. and the last thing this movie needs is anything about Earth. Earth was the worst part of the '87 adaption. The only exception I'd be ok with is a passing remark of that being where Adam's mom is from (having crash landed as an astronaut) but even that is unneeded.

Not to defend the upcoming movie, as from what I’ve heard, it’s basically Adam when he’s young escapes to earth when Skeletor attacks, grows up to be a salesman not knowing who he is, etc. etc. Basically, garbage. Everyone's big problem with the cast is Jared Leto who starred in two pretty bad superhero movies. Personally I'm holding judgement until what he looks like in makeup and we get a sample of his performance. He has as much potential to nail this role as he does to face plant. I don't care for the fish out of water story that the movie will probably start with leading to him being 30 and probably not remembering Eternia at all. I think the Netflix CGI show did that trope a lot better at first.

I remember when Anya Taylor joy talked about how they modernized Princess Peach in the Super Mario bros movie. They were clearly ashamed of the character's history. And instead of taking the best aspects of previous iterations, they made her a girlboss.

@DavidMartinez-ce3lp15 күн бұрын
@gloriathomas3245 No, she wasn't. She's literally one of the most famous damsels in distress in the world. Just because there's a few adaptations that changed that aspect, that doesn't mean that no longer is part of her character. Especially not when there are also modern adaptations that have continued utilizing her as a damsel in distress.

The 200x version was one of the best reboots that dug into unproduced lore. Kevin Smith's was blah and an abomination. The race swaps are the red flags.

Race swaps are fine. There is NOTHING about Man-at-Arms that has to be a white guy. It beats having Clamp Champ running around just so it isn’t another all-white cast like the cartoon.
@Shaitanshammer14 күн бұрын
Nah make up new characters. Race swapping is dumb hand me downs and just used as a middle finger. Duncan has always been white. But there is lore that makes Clamp Champ who was King Randors bodyguard succeed Duncan as Man At Arms.
@Shaitanshammer14 күн бұрын
To be clear: Man At Arms is a Title. Duncan is a specific character, who has always been portrayed a certain way. You can change out who holds the title. When you are changing the character, well its doing the same thing over and over that has been destroying modern takes on old properties. Pretty much the same mind virus which has been going on forever. But as I said. There's lore for Clamp Champ becoming Man At Arms. Use it and honor it if you must have a black Man At Arms.
@marcelo7814 күн бұрын
If different means visually, it's understandable. It's very complicated to recreate the cartoon look as live action. But if that means pandering to "modern audiences," we'll have another Snow White in our hands.

He-Man was one of my first action figures, getting one from my parents prior to the show airing. I remember tuning into that first episode and it was great. It didn’t age well though, but I enjoyed the 2000’s series. Ultimately, I just want Eternia to look like The Dark Crystal with humanoids and technology mixed with sorcery. No silliness though. Just make it cool.

3 points: 1. He Man creator Roger Sweet said that Dolph Lundgren was TOO THIN to play the strongest man in the universe HE MAN is a VERY MUSCLE guy and that kid (the Hollywood actor) would take at least 10 years to have a similar physique! 2- The forced inclusion is going to screw up the movie since there ARE African American characters in the ORIGINAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. Like for example Clamp Champ, Melaktha, GARN and Shokoti (where two of them were created by the only African American 1984 screenwriter Don Manuel) I mean those "WOKES" who think they have the ability to make a He Man movie... THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! 3.- Idris Elba should play Melaktha or Skeletor 👍🏻👍🏻 and Phil Heat as Clamp Champ 🏆

I’m surprised that Idris Alba accepted the role of Man-at-Arms: he made it clear he disliked his recurring role as a fantasy character as Heimdall in the Marvel movies. He probably believe that the series will be short lived and he is certainly among the best paid actor in the cast.

Per Wiki Grayskull, “Goat Man originally appeared in the 1985 Masters of the Universe story Secret of the Dragon's Egg written by Jack C. Harris[1] and illustrated by Luis Eduardo Barreto (published by Golden Books). There he was seemingly taking orders from Beast Man.” If there’s Revelation influence, Goat Man isn’t evidence of it.

What do we really expect though? If they stuck too closely to the cartoon then it might be fun nostalgia, but it would be a small audience and a single viewing. Even the 1986 Transformers movie knew that sticking too closely to the wacky camp of the show would make for a dicey film.

I think with the chose of Nicholas Galitzine great. I think we are going to see more a Prince Adam I hope. He has many royal roles and military roles but is best known as a romantic lead both with both gay and straight roles in his previous work. I hope they do more the CGI treatment for he-man in more of the way they did in the netflix show it may have made a bad chose in what happens to Adam but the dramatic change of Adam to he man was great. The original cartoon made it more a Clark Kent and superman flip then a dramatic physical change. Adam was a lot of the more the fallowing the bread crumbs. I dont think a true adaption would work as a movie it needs some camp but more it needs more story.
