The irony of Naruse is twofold. One is he's a narcissist who is actually a pretty nice guy (he'll think he is the greatest in any given situation, but readily acknowledge others as being good too), and two is that he probably would be popular in school if he wasn't so often focused on how great he thinks he is.

I Think the author calling him an egoist would fit Way better. A narcissist is pretty Much by definition going to be a toxic and at worst really damaging person to be around.

Funny thing about the montage of how Naruse was treated by his classmates is that it's pretty much a repeat of what happened to Tadano in his first few days; and although the scene is not focused on him (to the point that Naruse doesn't even acknowledge his existence at first), in a roundabout way it's kinda nice how it shows Tadano has finally been accepted and integrated into the overall group of students. He's no longer seen as just an obstacle or bridge for others to get close to Komi.

Komi talking always hits me right in the feels. I think Aoi Koga does a phenomenal job of portraying the struggle to speak just through her voice alone. And when we hear the struggle, and all the effort Komi is putting into speaking to Tadano, it just hits so hard.

Naruse aside - and he's one of the best characters - my favourite part of this episode is getting to actually hear Komi speak, and say more in two or three minutes than all her dialogue put together to this point. It shows how strong her bond with Tadano is, especially considering she doesn't even speak to her own FAMILY like this.

She doesn't talk to her family because they can communicate without talking, it's not necessary. This doesn't devalue her bond with Tadano, but her family is just a different story

Yeah, also I like how understanding Tadano is in that situation. He knows that Komi doesn't have the confidence to speak face to face, so he let her speak through phone while basically standing next to each other, so that she could speak her mind. That scene is so sweet... 😭

The fact that Tadano didn't try to just speak face to face with Komi and play along so that Komi can speak her mind.. 😭 Chadano is soo understanding.. 😭

I think it's so funny that Naruse IMMEDIATELY guesses that Komi mind have a communication disorder (faster than most other people), but then dismisses the possibility. 🤣 He's actually pretty smart, which is evidenced later in the manga.

Also Naruse while Narcissistic pretty much always assumes the best intentions from others. Makes him kind of treat everyone well in his own weird way.

And that's why I said you were going to have a show with Naruse, he loves to think he's the center of attention so he works very hard to be as much of an "idol" as he thinks he is, making it hilarious. There is especially a scene in the Kyoto arc that remains in everyone's memory thanks to him lol. Also, Komi and Tadano talking at the corner of the wall... my heart. We soon arrive at one of the scenes which was already a meme with the manga, but with the anime ^^.

Naruse is such a funny, likeable character. And the field trip episode is one of my favs. Tadano x Komi really starting to take off after that sick ep.

I have been patiently waiting since the start of this series for you to get to this episode. Now that it’s here, I’m so happy! Naruse can be annoying but equally funny. I like Kometani a little more though for his humorous/dry commentary. Hearing Komi talk for what I think is the longest we’ve heard her speak up until this point was shocking. Her story was so sad, but it made me smile so much to see so many people want to be in her group. Can’t wait for the school trip arc.

With Komi and Kyoto trip, it was told from her perspective and we all know that she has low self esteem. I am sure that those people were more than excited to go with her, a bit afraid to talk to their goddess, but still very much excited. She never looked up, so she never saw how they actually feel. This is why I loved the manga and now the anime, just such a good representation of social anxiety.

I think this anime does a good job of gradually increasing the likability of the characters that first appear.

Can't wait for Tuesday, I guess...😅 Also, Kyoto is kind of a stereotypical destination in terms of field trip or vacation in anime. It is because Kyoto has some of the most popular tourist spots in Japan, such are: Kinkakuji (Here, Kin means Gold, which translates to Golden Pavilion), Ginkakuji (Here, Gin means Silver, which translates to Silver Pavilion), Arashiyama Bamboo Forest (Shown in Oregairu Season 2 Field Trip as well), Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine (Shown in Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha, Hello World as well) etc. Speaking of which, Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine is one of the popular destinations which is regarded as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and famed for its 1000+ Reddish Orange Torii Gates throughout the Mount Inari, a local hill where the shrine is situated. It is so popular that even a manga (later an anime), named Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha is adapted regarding to the site. Although, the anime was a bit unfinished (in terms of story), the manga was exceptional, with full of heart-warming moments that by reading them, one can cherish them for a long time. So, if you are interested of reading manga, then you could try Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha out.

The most tragic thing about the Komi last field trip is that it is moslty in her head. She said that the entire class played rock paper scissor and the losers got to get in her group, but most likely it was the winner since Komi does'nt really get that she was idolized by everyone.

Naruse's name is a definite pun, saying his name in Japanese style is "Naruse Sisto", which is as close to "narcissist" as you can get in Japanese.

Well, i can't be aure, i think the scene with Komi is the opposite, how you think. Remember, Komi says she believes that people didn't like her or such. I think in truth, they all did love her. They all wanted a chance to be her partners for the trip. Though, like we seen in her high school life, she put on a pedestal. It wasn't until Tadano helped her. Open her eyes and help her make some friends. We saw how everyone wanted to partner with her, and i believe the same thing in middle school, just to komi and her disorder, it appear they didn't want to.
