Some info for you: The Geddington Volunteer Fire Briagde is NOT an actual fire brigade. They used to be. In 1977 the fire service across the UK went on strike during the ‘Winter of Discontent’. The men of Geddington formed a fire brigade in order to protect their village but were never called into action. Once the strike ended the brigade disbanded with a ‘standing down’ dinner. At a small anniversary dinner the next year it was decided that having a group of men in the village that were willing to respond to any village need was a good idea after all. The group reformed with the name Geddington Volunteer Fire Brigade, with members being known as Volunteer Firemen, as a tribute to their original founding purpose and they purchased a former RAF airfield fire engine, which they still have to this day. As fire services are a government service in the UK, they are not a recognised fire service and do not respond to fires. They are simply a men’s club that help the community in any way they can.

James Acaster is the best “young” comedian to come out big in the last 5/6 years. He’s really burst bright and anytime he’s on an TV show/panel show you know he’ll be the best on there. His specials on Netflix were great and I think he’s not far from taking the US by storm as well. He’s the comedian that the next generation should want to follow and emulate.

The firefighter game James describes is a real game. I don't think its called "squirt", that's James making up a name. But I've watched the local town fire departments compete against each other playing that game at a summer fair. It was an empty metal beer barrel dangling from a cable between two poles they were pushing. It's a real thing fire departments do to see who's better at controlling the hose and aiming the stream.

Haha, I've been to the Geddington Squirt several times - I had friends who lived in the village and it's not far from me. There are even clips of it on KZbin and the Geddington Fire Brigade has its own website which describes some of the community work the guys do around the village. The Squirt is held every Boxing Day between the volunteer brigade and a team from the county's professional fire service; the latter is often a team of cadets. The spectators stand on the bridge over the river which is indeed close enough for the water to spray all over everyone. It's not a large village and there's not a lot of space for people to stand anywhere else so going to the Squirt means you have a good chance of getting wet. Fortunately the village pubs aren't far and have roaring fires at that time of year...

Our harbour area was in the middle of a copse of trees, we had managed to dig shell scrapes thinking we would only be there for half an hour or so, instead the staffy (staffsergeant) in charge said "settle in lads we will be here for a while" twenty minutes later I was snoring (soon got wakened up for that) I had been sleeping in the shellscrape which now had a good two inch layer of mud/water in it. In my defense I was knackered having been awake and humphing for a couple of days.

It sounds so stupid it has to be real. In my early twenties (decades ago), I walked home drunk and decided to have a wee by going up a slope of a bridge to a railway line. I kind of lost my way back, tripped and fell asleep. When I woke up in the morning, I was three feet away, caught up in brambles, from a twenty-foot drop to the road and path below me. I was still tipsy when I woke up, got home and got hassle for being out all night drinking. So, to me, your story sounds real!

Great video. He has a podcast with another comedian Ed Gamble called Off-Menu. The episode with Greg Davies is hilarious who is the Taskmaster which is a hilarious show as other commenters have said :)

15:55 When you watch a compilation based on one person and you get to the part where you have to guess who's friend the random guest is, I'm guessing it's the person who the compilation is made on 🤔😂 bit of a give away

I must not be very good at adulting because my first reaction would be to call my mom and have her put money in my account. Or maybe try to find a hostel or a shelter.

Don't forget that Acaster is from Kettering Town, in Northampton. I had the misfortune to work in a firm in Kettering, there were 200 people working there and 3 people that I had spoke to had never left the Town, for any reason. One was a 30 yr old married man with a car. Close by were Santa Pod Raceway, where I ran my Honda 750 Turbo, Rockingham Motor Speedway, Northampton International Raceway, Nene Valley Raceway. There are also 2 Football teams close by, if motor racing isn't your thing! There is an aerodrome less than 8 miles away, where I saw a Vulcan Bomber, XH558. So, as boring as I think Kettering is, there are plenty of things to do in the vicinity but they are very funny people!

Just a FYI, We dont generally have outdoor public pools in the UK, I dont know of a single outdoor pool, They are all indoor.

There is a fair few outdoor pools or lidos in the UK, including Brixton believe it or not, probably about 4 or 5 dotted around London. Also Newbury, Oxford, Reading- there is probably about 130 odd in the UK according to wickipedia, many are the originals built in the 1930s, rescued and brought back to life and are fascinating examples of Art Deco architecture. I only know this as I worked on the restoration of Reading Lido, so got quite interested in the history etc

Hm. Well, it's a regular occurance here in East Anglia. A deer will shoot out from the hedge in front of you, forcing you to swerve or brake hard - or hit it, which is a shame. We have a fair amount of muntjac deer that can decide to do just that. A local minibus driver was taken by surprise by just such an errant deer that suddenly ran out directly in front of him and he braked . . so hard that his exhaust pipe fell off.

Do yourselves a favour, and watch a show called 'Alan Davies, As Yet Untitled', where James not only talks about Basingstoke, but also about an early stand-up gig he did, and a time he was in Paris. In fact, watch the entire episode, because the entire panel has epic stories to tell.
