This was me. Just imagine a big as offensive lineman in full gear holding a clarinet. Edit: To answer some questions on how I managed both band and football during game day. For my freshman and sophomore years, it wasn't too bad because I was on the JV team and the band only performed in Varsity games. Then for junior year on the varsity team, I would perform in the halftime shows, then go immediately into stretching with the team, while my line coach basically gives me the "sparks notes" version of the half time adjustments. However, by senior year, I was being looked at by a few collages. Because football was my main priority and I really wanted to go all-out, just in case I will never play ball again, I reluctantly dropped band to shift all my focus on football. I earned my letters for both athletes and band, which was pretty cool though.

​@Trinity M I'm gonna show my age here, but that was the way it was for me too. I graduated in 1998 and I was in band and also did flags and rifles in the marching band. It was legit a FULL on commitment and we were GRADED on it during our "summer practices" because we (the band) started school 2 weeks before everyone else to start learning our field show routine, parade dress, and all music. 12 hour days, 5 days a week for 2 weeks. Then school started and it was everyday during class, sectionals during study hall 2x a week, and every day for another 2-3 hours after school, plus game nights and competitions on the weekend. When football was over, pep band started for basketball games and we still had local parades and competitions to do. It was crazy! I miss it though. Still a band geek at heart. Love a great drumline cadence 🎵🎵🎵 and watching the new generation play 💜

As someone who marched with one of those infernal things, I loved every minute of it. This guy's an absolute hero though, holding one of those up for a full show was brutal. He's already played two quarters of football, and still going harder than the other people who just had to sit in the stands. I'm proud to share an instrument with this guy. Ape together strong.

@@brodyquestionmarkI play Sousa and Baritone, Sousa is easier marching at first and easier to play while marching but after a little bit it digs in to your shoulders and hurts really bad. So if it’s for a short time sousa is easier but anything more than like 30 minutes it becomes very painful.

Yup. My dad's from a tiny town in West Texas & played defense for 4 quarters & trombone at halftime. He's the hardest worker I have ever seen & a great dad. I hope I'm half as good a human as he is. ❤

Yeah I'm honestly shocked that people are surprised about this. Nearly every single person I went to high school with participated in multiple activities, many of which took place on Friday night. Football players in the band, cheerleaders in the band, athletic trainers in the flag corps. It's just the way of small towns. I'm totally here for it getting recognition, but he's not an outlier by any means.

Bro I can relate. Hell on Fridays or weekends we had to report to the band hall before 5 or 6:00 to practice stuff and depending on who we played against, we wouldn't be back to school till 12:00 or 1:00 then be back at the band hall before 6:00 for UIL. Ah good old days.

Our daughter wasn't an athlete, but still spent a large part of her week at school at LEAST 12 hours a day because of her extracurriculars. Those are the kids that excell after high school too it seems.....

Now that is a talented kid that is committed. On top of that he is almost guaranteed a college scholarship to any school he wants because he plays one of the tubas. As tuba players are actually in demand. If he get a scholarship for football we could actually see him on the national stage.

Had a couple of people in my high school band who played football and also marched. Then there were others of us who were in cross country, volleyball, tennis, etc and still marched as well. Very thankful for our band teachers and coaches for being flexible with us students to pursue both of our passions ❤
