Today marked 0 keeper steelhead in 67 trips. I have caught a few spawned out coho, a sturgeon, a white fish, and a sucker fish. So I can't say I haven't caught anything but steelhead on the tributaries is my enemy. I have one on the Columbia though.

I've seen steelhead take a bead or a jig Even plunk gear backwards, they grab it and float Back with the currant flow usually about 4-5ft then let it go, they normally hit bait and try and swallow it. But bare gear is tricky dicky! Do or not set hook,

If you know the fish are below you go below the fish, your pulling the hook out if its mouth, if you are down river or side by side with the fish you pull it right back into it's mouth and fish on more keepers! I know it's hard but I won't even let my bobber go down past me by 20 ft, all your doing is making all those fish line shy? This is the biggest mistake bobber guys are making today! when or if a big mack gets ripped out of your mouth you would't bite at a big mack again, lol..that water is slow enough to row up river and down. Good Luck Boys still looks like fun!

Just went a whole dam week and camped in the cold mountains of Idaho. Fished all noght and day. 4 set ups with pvc pipes on the sand key bar. No dam steelies which was shocking. Only a dam rainbow and an endangered bull trout. I had every bait from sand shrimp to eggs and throwing hardware. Soooo my next time I will be doing something probably never done before, the fish seem line shy and hook shy more than they ever have been this season. Im going to use very tiny salmon egg hooks going to 6lb leader. Im actually going to try powerbait balls rolled up very tiny on these egg hooks. I have four colors I will be using. Does this sound inhumane and non sportsmanlike? Sell can ya blame me!?!
