This is very Kasparov-ian the positional dynamism that Carlsen has recently developed - makes him a very dangerous opponent now! A modern day Fischer.

Fantastic video, as always. Of course, the most recent things often seem the most impressive, but still: This feels to me like one of Carlsen's best games to date and it again underscores the dynamic transformation he went through, towards a more complete player, following his intense preparation for the Caruana match.

@@clydemccoy1768 You are entitled to your opinion. Carlsen cannot be blamed for bad moves by Giri. The graveness of Giri's mistakes only became apparent a bit later down the road. Carlsen swiftly, creatively and decisively punished these accumulating smaller mistakes and totally crushed the world no. 4 in under 25 moves. Surely an impressive feat. Problem with "Carlsen's best games" is that there are so many of them and something for every taste. So someone will always have other favorite games, and that is a good thing.

The passive activity of many of Carlsen's pieces in combination with how well his king is protected is just insane. There's such a beauty to his play, even when played in an era of as much skill and preparation as we have nowadays. It's hard to imagine someone will come along and topple him some day.

Nice analysis as always Danny. Isn't it funny how even the strongest players get beaten doing something as stupid as a novice would. In Giri's case manoeuvring his queen out of play. His best chance to save himself came after he played Ne2 covering the d4 square when he could have played Qe4 without facing Qd4 from Carlson. A wonderful game from Carlson. Should keep Giri quiet on the tweets for a while.

Amazing. Just looking briefly, it does look like White "castled into it". I don't like 15 0-0, it's superficial play. Instead I"m considering something like 15 g3!? the engine then suggests ... Nf5 16. Qe4 Nd4 17. Bf4 h4?! 18 0-0-0! and the beast says that White stands better. At least White keeps his Queen centralized and relevant. As it went, White sidelined his own Q and Black''s h-pawn could march. I would not say great game by Carlsen, more like poor show by Giri.
@axhalon38125 жыл бұрын
it doesn't matter what your beast plays when you drink a cup of tea watching its calculations, what matter is sitting in front of World Chess Champion thinking you are better player, but worring that one odd move will make you look like a stupid kid, and that exactly happend. Stupid trashtalker got knocked down
@jackkrom5 жыл бұрын
@@axhalon3812 Not really. Giri is a world class player and has a decent lifetime score against the Magnus. So he would not be like all "a bundle of nerves" because it's the world champion. The move 15 g3 is ... sort of obvious. It was the first thing that occurred to me so surely it must have occurred to Giri too. I checked the variations on the engine later. It's not like a very obscure brilliant idea. Just saying.
