Ok.. I was born in 1981.. so this is my best explanation for using Faggot as a slur. Right or wrong to the young generation... People born in the 70's and 80's grew up using that word ALL THE TIME!! Basically... it was used (Not as a slur towards anyone gay) it was actually a slur towards straight people. Back in the day.. if you were straight.. the worst thing you could be called was gay or a Faggot.. Its cliche to say it was different back then, but it was different. I don't think he ever had a problem with gay people. But he knew every time he said it it was gonna piss people off. Which honestly is part of what made him so popular. Also it was a very offensive word, especially in the black community. In some cases it was dangerous to call someone that. But in the end the dude had one of the greatest performances ever when he performed Stan at the grammys with Elton John, which was his way of saying hey I may say this fucked up shit but it doesn't mean that's how I am in real life. I’m in the lgbtq community and Em is one of my favorite rappers of all time. None of the stuff he’s said about the queer community is offensive to me. I remember hearing Marshall Mathers LP when I was like 10. He didn’t and doesn’t hate gay people. Elton John is a good friend of his and has also reiterated the same thing (even saying Eminem sent him and his husband a giant dildo as a gift). It’s all purely shock value and it’s how he really blew up initially. Basically if there was a button he could push to piss people off, he smashed it.
