He didn’t need to shed tears ….. the venerability and conviction showed in his eyes and words so intensely. I was watching the most recent episode of Last Week Tonight as second-monitor content and there was definitely a quaver in John's voice that yanked my attention hard to see if he was crying. I never saw tears, but he was more emotional than he has been about most things. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. Some of the most memorable moments on television are when comedians get serious.

I empathize with John on the weird cry schedule. I wish I cried more often, 'cause it'd be good for my eyes, good for my soul. But I only ever cry when a loved one dies, when a videogame character dies, when I see a really well-made trailer for anything, or if I feel unfairly treated. National tragedies, deaths of people I know that aren't immediate family, most kinds of bad news won't make me cry, but I'm grateful for the times they do. Cried more often when I was younger, duh.
