Yea, tithing is engrained in many religions (although each religion may call it a different name). However, the person said “As a Christian, having to *pay for prayer requests* is absolutely insane.” Being made to pay for a prayer request is not what tithing is. Requiring money for a prayer request is disgusting, and it’s something that Copeland does because he’s greedy and evil. That’s not a normal thing to be taking place at a Christian church .

That’s what indulgences became. It was initially supposed to be money payed to help the church or charities as a way of expunging your sins. Inevitably, some people abused the indulgence system and it was reformed later to reduce abuse.

My great grandfather himself was a Preacher, he was just a generic preacher he would preach at any church regardless of denomination if asked. He was my moral compass not because I found him inspirational but because I knew him since I was five and he helped raise me into adulthood and even when I was having a schizophrenia moment managed to make me feel absolutely safe by saying hello. Sadly I’ve seen worse. I was raised in a very evangelical church and the nature of my dad’s job entailed going to many others throughout the country. There were sooo many times when the “offering” was prayed over, and the congregation was promised that whatever they gave would be tripled! I realised a few years ago why a lot of people feel really weird about this guy. He exists in the uncanny valley, (look it up, its cool) basically he looks just human enough for us to think he is human but there are aspects to him that are unhuman. His smile and his mannerisms as well as how he behaves is just slightly off for a majority of people. We know instinctively that these things about him aren't genuine and because of that we automatically hate and dismiss things that exist in the uncanny valley. It would be quite unfortunate life for him... if he wasn't so much of a garbage person that preys on people. And his behaviour is actually evil and goes against what his bible says.

I mean a lot of small churches are taxed, the 501c3 churches which are generally mega churches don’t get taxed, I think we should flip it and tax the mega churches and give exemptions to the small churches
