On the discussion of neurodiversity: My late diagnois of autism in my mid-30's was both liberating but also more difficult to accept than I thought it would be. Children only really get a diagnosis if they stand out in a negative way; i.e. 'being naughty', and this wasn't me. However I have struggled with various mental health problems as a comorbidity to being neurodiverse. So it was liberating knowing that a lot of my problems weren't just because I was a failure as a person, but for reasons beyond my control. But being late diagnosed leaves also leaves you with imposter syndrome; having blamed yourself all your life for feeling different. I don't subscribe to the popular opinion of 'not labelling people' when it comes to mental health or hidden conditions, a label can be very freeing and enable understanding and (hopefully) support. It doesn't surprise me that mainstream Conservative opinon doesn't like more people like me getting a diagnois because it means more people qualifying for support, it's an inconvenient truth. Mental health problems and unseen disabilities are easy to malign because people expect disability to be physical and visible - just like burglars all wear masks and stripey tops. It will be impossible to convince neurotypical folk to think differently, especially people of certain generations. But I don't need to justify who I am to people who aren't willing to listen and learn. I have felt dismissed for my mental health: "oh we all get depressed don't we?" and now apparently it's the same with being neurodiverse, so I can't win.
@alfredotebasco7 ай бұрын
I'm in a similar boat, it's really hard to come to terms with it all. I hate imposter syndrome, a shortcut to destroy your self worth and confidence, especially when you can't communicate to others in a typical way, having to learn how to communicate with people when it seems so natural to most people. I wonder how many places are refusing to sell to UK and how many are sending goods without charging VAT. Now imagine Germany telling the seller: "in order for you to sell to us you have to register for GERMAN VAT, collect it for us and send it to us". Would you be happy doing all that work for the German Government? The British Government has said that German sellers and sellers in EVERY country must register with the UK for VAT in order to sell to us. Ali Express now charges us "UK VAT". Do you really think they give that to the UK? Do you think that is possible to police? Europeans are law abiding and do not want to take the risk of breaking UK law so it is simpler not to sell to us.

I knew then and there that other world economies would seize the opportunity to fully exploit the UK’s weakened economic position and they have. When I hear Rees Mog speak he presents himself as a glib know it all who is never wrong even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Almost cartoonish and stereo typical of the arrogant Victorian Englishman we sometimes see on TV. It is important to keep this conversation going because it is the only way to own it and fix this problem. I’m not confident the UK will ever get back the deal from the EU before Brexit. This creates the tension seen in the discussion about the increase in diagnoses. It leads people to sigh and say "ugh, do we have to cater to everyone with a bit different about them? Are we sure they're not just lazy and have parents who want to ignore that?" It's easier and (on the short term) cheaper to call children lazy and parents delusional, than accept that tailor-made approaches are sometimes necessary.

NHS is not remarkable at all. For over 20 years I have been trying to get doctors to listen to my health issues, finally a couple of weeks ago a new doctor listened and is doing somthing about. My mother went to doctors due to chest pains only to be turned away being told it what anxiety, guess what heart attack a few days later. My partner has been awaiting over a year after going for a optician appointment they immediately sent him to a hospital, that hospital then sent us away saying they couldn’t deal with his loss of version due to much bleeding behind the eye, following day sent to another hospital who said don’t know why you been sent here you should of been sent to a different hospital. Guess what that hospital said a referral was needed another year has passed and only just recently got seen. Only to be told no sorry as it’s taken you so long to sue us your loss of vision is now permanent. He’s only 33.

If Rees Moog is standing for re-election I hope the people in his constituency will teach him a lesson and kick him out.

When JRM and his acolytes said ‘we’re going to take back control’, he meant: from the British people to the tory elites, by which I mean proper elites. Those who have money and a background of social exclusivity. Not you in the hairdressers. Not you driving a works van. Not you hoping to travel abroad for work. Him and his pals, who couldn’t stand being told what to do by Europe. That’s always been THEIR job, for hundreds of years. Telling us what to do.

Haven't been brave enough to ask for an assessment. But when I think about the possibility of getting a diagnosis confirmed, I think of it like this: It would be like walking around on a broken leg all your life, with everyone else saying it's not broken, and you are just lazy and weak. And you almost start to believe it yourself, and keep trying to walk on it, despite the pain. Then one day you get to see the x-ray that proves the break and the relief that someone believes you, never mind might be able to help, would be immense. Sadly, there will always be those that STILL won't believe it, because they can't see the x-ray themselves and there is no cast for Autism. Did any of that make sense?

Not to harp on about JRM but is it possible for someone who has millions in business/assets not to understand three words ‘non tariff barriers’

It would be better for Brexiteers, if people cooked & cleaned for themselves & could online shop, & store frozen food, preferably from fresh with the 'Please Freeze' policy, to reduce small spending for deliveries, so to speak.
