Cordialement.

This is Okuri Eri Jime (sliding collar choke), the first choke I learned at age 13 (I started Judo at age 10). Okui Eri Jime is no more dangerous than any other Judo choke. See Black Belt Magazine 1970: How Dangerous are Judo Chokes?. We also had standing chokes in my tournament days (1970s). We couldn't do chokes until age 13 and no arm bars until age 16 or Sankyu level.

I can't see that hand choke working live while the guy is fighting. But I do love the idea of getting the lapel choke during the takedown. I'm going to work on that.

Id say yes Im a 4 stripe blue belt in BJJ and orange belt in judo. Lift heavy just not too heavy I've noticed during training extra really makes me slower. I'm 6ft 208lbs

I mean the choke is possible to use. But in a practical sense I can’t see the thumb not slipping with a resisting opponent. And also I be a tad concerned about the possibility of my thumb being hyperextended if going live as well.

Hi,is choking from behind allowed in judo?
@CervusGreen
@CervusGreen 5 сағат бұрын
If I understand your question right: yes. Most judo strangulation techniques take place with the attacker behind the defender.

Detail I was taught, instead of tucking your thumb in and making a fist leave the thumb extended along the inside of the lapel so it's actually the back of your thumb which applies the pressure. Obviously you only do this when deep enough so they can't grab thumb
