Bruce, Bruce! I was getting ready for Hurricane Debby, 4-8 inches of rain predicted (10 to 20 cms) and checked my drains. The one that ran under the lawn had a big crack with grass roots and dirt clogging it. With a garden trowel, kaleidoscoping back scratcher, some PCV piping and pulling at the roots, I managed to clear it. The whole time I was thinking of Mr. German and how I needed him!

We'll get some associated rain and stiff breezes, but nothing too crazy. A bit of a relief for me, but also a bit concerning for those in New England in the path who don't typically experience hurricanes. (Not that hurricanes are common in CT, but we've had our share of them, and those of us with longer-than-a-goldfish memory spans know how to prepare; I am worried about the people who don't know what to expect due to lack of experience.)

Been there, done that! Forty-five year career as a civil-environmental engineer; planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining water supply, wastewater disposal, and stormwater systems. Easy, peezy cleaning 4-, & 6-inch pipes. Think about a 21-inch diameter sewer pipe with a root clog, pulling a 10-foot long root clog out of an 8-inch sewer, or re-lining a partially collapsed, 48-inch diameter storm drain with a woven fiber-glass mat sleeve (Insituform). 🥰I am looking from the Netherlands. Like the way you comment on the stuf. Had some nasty unplugging myself. Working on a gas production platform. My own room toilet was blocked, just starting my shift for 14 days. So next day is started with a firewater hose in my toilet. But what I didn't know was the toilet pipe came of on the back end of my toilet. so I thought it was unblocked. But no, the water was free streaming on the sealing of the kitchen. Cause the fire alarm go of, and ended with the fire team on my room.

I'm watching from Vancouver in Canada and these are among the most terror filled videos I've seen on the net. I'm in an 84 year old house that we've had for 57 of those years and, other than reconnecting the house to the street because the tree roots got into the old tiles a few years ago nothing has happened to the drain tiles under the house itself. I dread to think what state they are in and hope they'll last long enough for us to be out of this house. In this city anything more than 30 years old usually gets demolished and replaced.
