The game is all about deception. You try to coerce them to make 1 choice so you can control the result. Its an extreme version of keep or steal. If both players pick steal, nobody wins and they leave with nothing. If both pick keep, they split the winnings. If 1 player picks steal while the other picks keep, then the stealer takes it all for themselves.

@@richbattaglia5350 yeah, jigsaw's game has logic instead of deception, slow steps through everything can make you see traps, and when you or someone else is caught, your smarts (and probably some self harm) can save them. or you can avoid physical harm entirely and watch the people jigsaw wants you to save slowly get sliced into bits, opting for much more time in therapy if not a short time with freedom also, though you are kidnapped, its because you're evil and/or were looking into revealing jigsaw too much i think [next part contains tons of text, feel free to ignore it] this movie, though, has tons of pressures that make the characters seem greedy, i shall list them: 1: to continue with the offer of the island trip, which after winning an online game (which i lack context of, not sure if there's an explanation of that), you feel like #1, and expect that the treatment for being lucky or smart would be positive 2: to invite loved ones, since you got perhaps a great vacation opportunity, you'll bring everyone close to you 3: to play the game since the amounts listed might be very easy for rich people to give away, causing the 'too good to be true' thought to be destroyed. i mean like jeff bezos could run like 100 harmless versions of these if he wanted 4: to play the game since two people are present, meaning one could pressure the other. the weakest willed would agree with the other now i will say there are a few reasons to NOT have played: 1: being strapped to a table im pretty sure is illegal unless you sign some sort of form, and if your host is just going to break the law in a way that renders you defenseless and unable to leave, why wouldn't they just kill you eventually? 2: there's like 50 hotel staff who act cult-like instead of friendly, that doesn't even ring under the idea of formality, it rings as conformity (hopefully i used that word right) 3: where's the camera crew? nobody gives away millions without publicity, especially when challenges are involved. i think they only figure out cameras are involved once they can't back out, of which its still not a camera crew. unfortunate 4: its keep or steal, and the chance to leave is after the game shows that stealing *can the other into debt* . i mean if you look at the largest prize possibility of $20M and assume there's no harm that's done to anyone, a simple act of greed may put one if not both players in * $20M debt * . just assuming that, you gotta leave immediately for everyone's good. also a few more things to note if you decide to leave, the rich people have you cornered, so they could either force you to play, if not just flat out kill you. i mean who wants to set up another whole online game, fly the winners and chosen people out to an island, and they just decide to not go with it? that could be like nine games per nine people killed, aint no rich person with a cult of sadistic people watching going to go through all that even if you both somehow trust eachother enough to always split, you both lose your left pinky, left ring finger, relative's eyeball, wife's tongue, an eye, ANOTHER EYEBALL, and you will only be rewarded (not sure how accurate this is since this voiceover doesn't say the values all the time) $17,721,666 so you are blind, can't use your left hand well at all, your family member can't see well and will probably hate you, your wife cant speak and will probably hate you all of that for what is probably 0.5% of the unknown game master's money

(sidebar: I'm wondering the whole time watching this when they say "debt" it's like ... DEBT TO WHOM and how are you gonna collect? Im guessing the will to commit to this clearly irreparable game means the creators are horrible people and would prob do worse to you on their own account, then the Italian Mafia would, if they have to hunt you down to "pay" said debt.. but it's like ID OBVIOUSLY PICK DEBT EVERYTIME... DEBT while being serious to real people in the real world... Cuz it affects their credit score... In this case just seems silly cuz who's gonna come after this self ordained debt? The federal reserve?? Obviously not. DEBT would just be the most logical answer every time especially when everyone gets to walk away from this crazy moment they got themselves in)

The first round is just the classic Prisoner's Dilemma. The solution to which is very easy. In a single one on one game setting, it's smarter to deceive. But over the course of several trials/games, it's generally smarter to be honest up until the other person proves to be dishonest, at which point you simply do back to them what they did to you. In such fashion you will in general net the most points. The following rounds of this game, however, break the formula by attaching serious physical pain and death as later consequences even in the event that you both try to pick the beneficial option such that someone is always getting screwed over. The entire formula for prisoner's dilemma breaks down and is made invalid.
