Thank you so much. Your figure drawing book has been a life saver for me amidst the ocean of "master anatomy in 7 minute" videos on youtube. Taking the time to make these videos to supplement the learning is awesome. Am grateful.

It was only after I started drawing figures that I realized the genius of this week 1 head simplification. It communicates all the necessary information, takes VERY few strokes to get down, and is easy to rotate with a little perspective knowledge. Thanks for this!

this is easier than the Loomis method, i don't know why the hell people always use the loomis
@rossevanricamara41693 жыл бұрын
It's kinda like why people study Michaelangelo, sure, contemporary methods are objectively better, but it had to come from somewhere and to know how it got there helps us understand better.

Isn't this just simplified loomis method
@TatiQ0 Жыл бұрын
I know this is a rhetorical question, but I think Loomis is just an older, more established method. I honestly found out about Michael from other drawing KZbinrs. I’m sure in a few years the Hampton method will be more commonly mentioned with Loomis et al.

I'm currently reading the gesture book and i finished the head-chapter, i'm particularly having difficulties with putting features on basic structure, in a way that looks good, since they weren't touched upon (so transitioning from basic to complex). My old method was kinda drawing a general shape and "sculpting it" (drawing and redrawing it) until it became good, and it was basically all habit and 0 structure. I think it's difficult to reconcile the 2 methods, mostly because i have to force myself to fit to the outline instead of moving eveything, changing shapes, and pretty much doing whatever i want to. Like if i want to change the face angle i will have to change everything that's below to make sure i'm not leaving pieces behind, while before it was kinda in my head, but while i had more freedom i am only able to draw a limited pool of faces. I think i have to study more about how things are placed, and get more used to the basic structure, so i can quickly move on from it and "recall" some aspects of it to double-check during the drawing process (like when i begin turning bodyparts into geometry on the fly, to make sure they are correct when i move them/place features). I see the 2 methods resulting in very different things, with the one explained in the book resulting often in a worse result, and mine being better when i apply proportions for example, or the circle for the skull, after having dropped the general shape. But i still run in the problem of drawing always the same limited pool of faces, even if i fix them faster. With the book method for poses it started really bad compared to what i did and now it gives a miles better result than what i did, so i think i have to just pratice more and see where it leads.

Agreed. Everything is trial and error. You might take some things from my approach, a little from others, and keep a lot of what is natural to do. Sounds like you're figuring it out though.

Michael’s classes are pure gold. There is something I dont get though about the head drawing. I dont understand how to find the horizontal line of the T. When its face view I get it as it’s in the middle of the circle but how do we find it in any other positions ? And I cant find the answer in the book. If anyone could help. Thanks a lot

The brow line is found by relating the eye brow to the top of the ear as an ellipse.
