Good job! As an aside, I did PCV jobs on 3 or 4 Volvo's, all white blocks. I replaced the PCV box on the first job, because the manual says so. I opened that old box, dirty yet certainly not clogged. The other times I only replaced the tubes and the PCV's worked fine. Not so much about saving money, I hate to throw away stuff that is still usable...

Great work to replace all those other parts while you have the cylinder head (oil trap, flame trap holder, water pump, heater hoses). When doing a head gasket, I always drain both the oil and the coolant. This makes it easier to clean out the threads on the block before installing the new head bolts. I also soak the head bolts in oil overnight, to make sure the threads are very well-coated.

Great work mate!👍I just watched your last two videos and everything is looking good. Just be sure after a few hundred miles of driving to loosen the tensioner nut and then retighten it. Doing so will take up any stretch that develops in the timing belt. Also, thanks for the shout out I really appreciate it. I'll be doing a head gasket before years end as well but on something much more complicated. My Saab 9⁵ Aero is the lucky culprit. Not so lucky for me though. It's a rather invasive job and can take quite awhile. Wish me luck 😆👍 If Sylvia is still feeling slow I bet those intercooler hoses are leaking boost. I have the do88 silicone hoses on my 745t. Very nice quality hoses. Keep up the content. I have 6 videos I need to edit. Just been busy with life. ✌😎

I love Redblocks. They indeed hold a lot of coolant inside the block itself, mainly due to it being of cast iron. I remember going to work for a night shift on a cool spring evening, drove for about an hour. Great job and video. One thing I learned that may come in handy for you is to put a line across all layers of your crankshaft pulley (either w/ paint marker, nail polish, etc). Sometimes when it separates it won't be totally drastic. I noticed that the painted on marks had shifted ever so slightly on my 92 245 once when under the car, knew it was time to change. Anyway, keep up the good work.

@@Involvod I had an Alfa turbo diesel once and the turbo hose looked fine when the engine was idling (or off) but when you pressed the accelerator it expanded a lot because it lost its strength. Also the bearings of the turbo can be worn which will give less boost.

@@Involvod I doubt it. If anything, slightly higher compression would result in a slightly faster car. The ECU and EZK in these cars are fairly simple and does not see a boost signal. For the air flow, they only monitor the air going into the turbo, after it passes the MAF (Air Mass Meter). It doesn't measure it after the air has been compressed.

Going to be doing this in a month or so on our -90 740 GLT. Along with a bunch of other stuff. Will be interesting to see what I'll find since the entire engine is, internally, untouched since it was bought. It has gone well over 310000 miles and we're planning on selling it but before we do we have to do a bit of maintenance so it can get a passed road inspection. Funny thing is though that when we started it two days ago after having been still for 2 years, it started on the first crank as if it was nothing!
@eebens4439
@eebens4439 2 жыл бұрын
Nice work man! That knock sound is "piston slap" it"s quite common in these early 90"s turbo motors. Pistons wear and start to make that noise. Nothing to be too worried. I have seen examples driven more than 500k km with the piston slap noise and they run well without any issues.
@Involvod
@Involvod 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have quite bad piston slap on the 240 but it sounds totally different to this, I wonder if it can slap in a different way, I thought that this noise was valve train noise, but considering the clearances were all well within spec it can't be 🤔
@eebens4439
@eebens4439 2 жыл бұрын
@@Involvod In my opinion if it would be valvetrain noise it would be more tick tick kind of noise 🤔 By listening the video yours sound exactly same as my old 940 turbo and it had some slack in pistons to cylinder, causing the slap noise. Does yours sound louder when engine is cold?
@Involvod
@Involvod 2 жыл бұрын

@@Involvod In my opinion i would just leave it as is and drive it happily, also get a chip to ecu and put some more boost 😁 That auto transmission in these make the stock one feel quite slow unless you punch it hard 😅 yeah that slap noise will turn heads in bad way when it's loud 😅

For the crankshaft pulley, if the car has a manual (M45/M47) you can put it in 4th gear if you don't have the holder tool. It might sound sketchy but 4th gear is the "direct" gear for these, you essentially lock the crankshaft to the rear wheels (which you'll block, chock and put the handbrake on).
@martij30
@martij30 2 жыл бұрын
You might also want to check the clearance between the valve shims and the camshaft. They don't automatically adjust, so you'll have to check (and if required, adjust) them manually every 20k or so. This might be the cause for the ticking.
@Involvod

@goranamcoff6235 2 жыл бұрын
Great work. When you grind the valve seat, it will recess further into the head. You need to compensate by adjusting valve clearance (shims in this case). Tapping is probably tappets out of spec.
@Involvod
@Involvod 2 жыл бұрын
Good point, I'll recheck them soon! I wanted to use it a little bit to get those hushers flat again 😃 It does sound very much like valve train noise doesn't it
@goranamcoff6235
@goranamcoff6235 2 жыл бұрын
@@Involvod Those engines do not have hydraulic lash adjustment. Any change in valve position relative to seat needs to be compensated for. Pop the valve cover and go lose with feeler gauge, you can then order a set of matching lash caps and fit them in one go. After grinding seat, valve will move further towards cam. So lash will decrease, not increase. In worst case, there will be no lash so there is a risk that valve is not closing fully, leading to burned valve edge.

@Involvod
@Involvod 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That seems to be the general consensus, as long as it doesn't get worse I'm not going to worry about it, my 240 sounds like it has rod knock but it's just bad piston slap, apparently hasn't gotten any louder in 11 years and who knows how many miles! 😄

P.S шланг с повреждениями с турбины на интеркулер он с ранней 230FT турбины Garett(у вас ранний квадратный зуб до 93года, а турбина с 95 поздняя митцубиши, я говорил об этом, на турбины митцубиши шли цельнометаллические изгибы, у меня есть точно такой же изогнутый шланг ранний, а есть черная металлическая трубка изогнутая от 230GK\FK, может найдете такую).
