Coming from a fellow tow man that was once young like Ethan. The lesson of always wearing gloves will be one he remembers. Mine was splinter from the cable going through the palm of my hand covered in beaters acid and antifreeze . First thing you should grab while getting out of the truck.

Pickup driver I don't think wore the seatbelt. Appears steering wheel air bag didn't go off and his head broke the windshield. VS an immovble and unbreakable wall, the truck gets poorer crash safety ratings than that little car. But this wasn't an immovable flat wall, it was a head-on between vehicles and you get to see why I prefer the SUV/pickup. With seat belt and airbag, the pickup driver would walk away. Possibly no bruises even. That wasn't more than a few mph closing speed from the truck just ripping the top of the car off at the window line. He indicated that all lived... That's good. Hopefully the injuries are not too bad and everyone recovers fast.

@@fhuber7507 That's a vicious cycle, everyone getting a bigger can because of "safety", leading to bigger and bigger cars just to one-up the others. Hopefully the stuff on the bed were fastened because those will become projectiles during a crash. Looks a bit careless, to be honest. Be safe out there, not just for your sake but for everyone else's.

@@fhuber7507 The car has some advantages though too.. Better stopping, and maneuverability.. and crash avoidance capability. Most crashes I see are single car crashes I see way more SUV's and trucks rolled over in loss of control situations. I'll take the AWD Subaru if I need that for snow etc, or a Prius or Corolla or other car for a daily. You can never control, prevent or plan for every possible situation that could happen on any given day. So I am going to buy the vehicle I need for my daily use.. For me that is 60,000 miles per year for not great pay... So I would take the Prius.. had one.. It went 430,000 miles. And Still got 47MPG.

"because it's a Ford". Nice unbiased, neutral attitude. Cracks me up this whole which make is better nonsense. They're all designed to fail. Can't sell new ones if the older ones stay in action. Most repair garages I've seen have mechanics shoulders deep in all makes. I think it's foolish to be brand loyal in the auto industry. Gotta keep an open mind. You may have had good luck with a particular make for a long time, but that's all it was, luck. GM, Ford, Dodge (Ram), Toyota, Nissan....They all have recalls, TSBs, and inherant design flaws. Flip a coin and get your best price.

Some people are like "the Prius was mangled from a low speed impact". Yeah, but notice how the cabin's intact? The rest of the car has crumple zones that are purposely designed to absorb the energy of the crash so that the passenger compartment is undamaged. It's incredible just how safe even a cheaper, smaller car than this is nowadays. Some of those people think old cars are safer because the car would be damaged less. It would be, but that's because the energy from the impact would be transferred into the cabin and you'd be eating the steering column for dinner. Modern cars crumple so that you don't.

At 11:24 the message on the Prius dash. “Drive-Start Command Malfunction. Visit Your Dealer.” Yep, like that’s gonna happen! What an optimistic car. This Prius took a hard hit where it submarined under the front bumper of the ford and shredded everything up to the base of the windshield and splattered windshield glass everywhere. In spite of all the torn up look of the car, the passenger cell is still very intact. That was a very solid hit to sheer those Ford front suspension control arm bracket bolts. Which actually was a good thing for crash energy dissipation. All that destruction on the front of that Prius was actually to the benefit of the passengers in the Prius. You had a 7000+ pound truck with a truck frame do a whamo into a lightweight at 3,000 to 3,200 pound Prius. (Yes, believe it or not, a Prius is a featherweight car! Our 2013 model on certified scale is right at 2800 pounds.)

Agreed. all that crumpled sheet metal as the truck went over the engine absorbed energy that would have made for a harder hit if it had been lower. But even so, the whole engine and trans got shoved back. That was a hard hit.

Got to love a good collapsible crash structure - it may well have saved at least one life today. Although looking at that wreck, I kinda wonder if taller trucks like this need anti-submarining bars fitted on the front end. His fender's pretty much at windshield height, and that may not end well for the other driver in collisions like this.

You know what Ron, I worked for a local public school district for 35 years in the maintenance dept. Plowed snow for those 35 years. We always had six F350's and one F450 dump. That is the necessary fleet for the number of schools in the district. Everyone of the staff was assigned a truck. During my 35 years I had four different trucks. And I will tell you those Fords were beasts. Eight- foot plows and when you raised it the front just sat there no droop at all. The district bought salt in bags 49 50lb bags per skid. You could put two skids in those F350's and haul it no problem. Bashing Fords and you buy a Ram. Chrysler famous for their 13 wires connected to one ground point. Nothing but electrical problems because of it and remember Ford is Ford unlike Ram that is now Fiat and three French car companies owned.

I was an assistand body shop manager in the 80's. Certain ones never leave you. Every morning we walked the lot to log in any tows from the night or weekend before. The worst was a Honda Civic that killed 4 teens. They were speeding and took out an entire fence. The smell was awful. We moved the car as quick as we could because of all the prople that came to see it. Families destroyed in a blink of an eye. Another was a caddy that was flattened by a train. It was sobering. The driver showed up and passed out when he saw the car. Come to find out he put the car on the tracks in a low area train crossing because he could not get his car bought back by the purchasing dealership. He brought that car several hundred miles from his home and staged it. Nothing was adding up and he was arrested.

As a paramedic I have seen a lot of accidents, I will surely pray for the folks in these vehicles, lots of potential for injury. looked like the truck's driver-side airbag did not deploy, the driver might not have had their seat belt on which in some cars and some impacts will prevent the bag from deploying. I believe the post below me mentioned but Ethan should get in the habit of just putting gloves on. Seems like every time I handled extrication or helped out the two crew, yep I was one of those guys who would help grab all the junk off the road if time and conditions allowed.

I'm just amazed you wheel lifted that hatch. I'd have been too frightened that the suspension was compromised.

Same, my first thought was the Prius on the rollback and the truck on the wheel lift. There is a reason I watch these videos and don’t make them 🤣

Damn, that was truly a David vs. Goliath crash here... Best wishes to both drivers to recover as soon as possible. And, actually, i'm surprised and schocked that the driver airbag on the pickup didnt deploy. Especially since i know that undeployed airbags can be REALLY dangerous even after a crash. (I remember seeing that pretty old clip of a firefighter that was sitting on the passenger side during a extrication and got hit by a late-deploying passenger airbag.)

My sister was in a David and Goliath crash. She was the Goliath, in a Hummer. The lady in a small compact car crossed over the center line, my sister died on impact, the other lady lived. It was an accident in bad weather, and we don't wish ill on her.

I have lived here in MO, KCMO area, for most of the last 18yrs. While I know that authorized tow companies can run code, I have yet to see a single tow truck/wrecker ever run code here in the city. I wonder if it just doesn't happen much here, due to the number of companies and trucks or if I have just never seen it, which I spend most of my work days driving all over the place. I hope the driver of that little Prius makes a speedy recovery, that little car sure didn't look to good.

It met truck bumper to car hood/engine and car bumper to truck wheels. I'd not expect any truck suspension to be OK with what looks like 40+ mph closing speed impact direct to the tires. SOMETHING was going to break. It's just a matter of where the designers put the fracture point for progressive impact absorption.

Thats the problem with big trucks and SUVs. Its fine if everyone has one but there are small cars out on the road with you. You might come out with some bruises and ruined bumper and radiator but the person in the small car you hit would be lucky to live...

Thought the sunrise may have contributed to this. Pulling out of a driveway, one tends to check over your shoulder. Pulling in, maybe the pickup was trying to beat opposing traffic turning in. Bad combo; bad timing. Hoping all involved fully recovers. Chemical gloves have terrible dexterity but they're invaluable protection when things are leaking.

Thoughts and prayers to the driver of the car, for some time I drove a roll back with a spec lift and we would always tack this truck to a 2 car incident we found it was easier and quicker than two truck's it doubled the man power when the other driver could be doing another job and unless it was a multi car incident it was a one man recovery and a one truck recovery hear in the uk.
