Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has requested that we "expedite", which authorizes us to run Code. We do not get to make that decision to run Code, we have to be given authorization. I know it is strange to a lot of people seeing and hearing a towing/recovery unit running lights and sirens, but, here in Missouri, the state recognizes us as Emergency Services. revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSectio... Anyway, today we are asked to move a semi truck with a loaded trailer that is stuck in heavy traffic coming up to road construction on top of a bridge. Gavon is running traffic control. Ethan is running the Western Star. And, I'm running the rotator. When the call came in, it was unclear what the situation was, only that a semi was involved and the bridge was blocked, and we were asked to "expedite". So, we send enough equipment to move whatever may be needed. Thankfully, the driver of the semi was uninjured. I do not know the status of the people involved in the other related incidents. We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe...and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

Does the lift arm have an inbuilt secondary locking system to prevent accidental lowering, whilst you are working underneath the stricken truck?
@RonPratt
@RonPratt 6 ай бұрын
Yes....there are "holding valves" built onto the cylinders which prevent movement of the cylinders in any direction unless hydraulic pressure opens the valve. So, even if a line blows to the main lift cylinders, the boom, in theory, is suppose to stay in place and not fall. I do not wish to test that theory. Typically, we place wood blocks under the tires after lifting and prior to going under the truck. I know we have been hammered by a lot of people on this video for not having the blocks in place. We are human and we make mistakes. I asked for the blocks, but didn't verify they were in place before I got under the truck. A mistake was made and a lesson was learned. That's how we grow. I know you weren't the person being critical. You were simply asking a question, politely, which I greatly appreciate. For the haters and critics.....have you never made a mistake or an oversight, especially when under pressure? I know I certainly have. I'm very safety conscious. I made a mistake and failed on a major safety issue and, thankfully, nobody was injured because of it. At least I'm humble enough to admit my mistake. Thanks and God bless.

@@RonPratt I think it is good that you post these videos. Simple things like the blocks that you have done thousands if not millions of times are super easy to forget that one time (but it only takes once). Having 129,000 people looking at your work is a very easy way for those things that you forgot be pointed out. Thank you for doing what you do to keep our roads safe and moving.

i was thinking the samething. i'm always leery of going underneath a vehicle like that or on a hoist at a "shop". i know there's suppose to be redenies, but crap still happens. i tend to be a bit paranoid about such things. it, just takes that one time and you're screwed.

@@RonPratt Nothing like a collection of wood blocks and some wedges. Would you benefit from a set of close-fitting helmets like the tree-cutting guys wear? You can get them with low-power UHF radios built in, which is great for on-scene communication. That wind might have been the cause for someone not hearing you ask for the blocks? I would never try to run your scene but after a few years of asking we have them now for extrication, the same noise and wind, and low-angle rescue alongside highways and such.

Having had a Holiday Rambler motor home leveling system fail and drop a complete motor coach on me, I can't even begin to explain how it sickens me to see you crawl under that truck before the front end is chained down and ALL hands are away from the controls. OK, I know it can only fall until the wheels are on the ground and there is a lot more clearance between the bottom of the truck and the ground than a 38 ft Holiday, but still I remember the months of recovery and 24 years later still have some pains. Be careful out there Ron! On the positive side, anytime I see someone trying to change a tire, I stop and be that PITA old guy that explains why you don't put your legs under the car when it's jacked up and why you always put the spare on the ground under the vehicle and once the flat is off you slip the flat where the spare was until you are done. If they are lucky, I show them my scars.

As much as we all might like the longer videos, we can all appreciate when it's shorter. It means no one was seriously hurt (or even hurt at all), everyone was safe, the job was executed extremely well, there was no confusion among those who responded, and the job went (mostly) according to plan. Excellent job as always Ron, and to your guys as well, it looks like they have taken a good bit of pride in their work, seeing as how they are not bumbling around, but issuing orders on their job, as well as asking the correct questions, and getting it done as fast and as safe as possible.

Human nature. Many of us do that, actually, strange as it is. Especially those of us who are loyal viewers of Ron and the 'Tator since, as you said, we get totally into it, and feel like we're there with Ron. There's a whole bit of neuropsychology behind that tendency, and similar ones (ever leaned sideways while watching a cockpit cam of a banking aircraft, or a police dashcam of a pursuit through a tight curve, for instance?), not that most of us are interested or would even understand much of the science. Definitely amusing, though.

@chuckmoore1380 I can only agree, Ron and his crew have built a good relationship with police/fire agencies. In one video, there's even another tow company that stopped and assisted in traffic control. In another, fire rescue heard that they were called, and decided "what can we do to make it easier for Ron?"

Always great to get a new vid. This one was a bit unusual on the safety front, at least in my opinion. Seeing all 3 of you under the truck without the trusty wood blocks and only 1 hard hat (the one we were sat on lol) made me a lil nervous. I guess i'm too used to those things being done in previous vids that it caught me off guard. Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking the work or you guys, i just don't want anyone to come to any harm out there. Daft as it sounds, i've become kinda fond of u lovely lot at midwest truck. Be safe!!

Ron did suggest putting blocks under the tires, but it never happened. Guess everyone assumed someone else would do it, or the blocks were on the passenger side of the tow trucks and they decided that the risks of spending a lot of time getting them out and putting the back up were higher than not using them. Whatever the reason, it made me a bit nervous as well, even knowing it all worked out because the video was posted.

That secondary crash and potentially others is always a concern when there is the first accident. Maybe "rubber necking" or people just not paying close enough attention. Mobile phone use gets the lions share of the negative press (for a good reason). But there is plenty out there that can cause a distracted driver. I remember driving to work when I was in High School and I would be tying my tie. Strange but back in the 70s "bag boys" had to wear ties to carry groceries out to the customers vehicle. They used to "tip" us back then. They only paid you $2.50 an hour but on Saturday you could make $100+ with tips.

@@wolphin732 I don't really see where the differentiation is necessary. Do firefighters become "second responders" if the building on fire is vacant so there are no lives to protect, except their own when they go in? Besides, there already is a kind of difference as Ron and his oeople can only run Code when the police explicitly tell them to, they can't do it based on their own judgement.

At the same time, it makes so much sense, that now having seen your videos and explanations, I wonder why they aren't everywhere. Do you know if they are in other places? Good work as always and thank you for your work.

Hey Ron, thanks for another note video! I have watched all of them. I subscribed years ago, I was also in the towing business then. Would watch your videos after my shift. I only did light duty, with a rollback. Many years prior I was a electrician. When 9/11 happened, that night I felt that I needed to do something. So, in my garage I took a piece of 1/2 inch heavy wall conduit, drilled holes after talking measurements of the flag I had on the front of my house. Sorry for the run on sentence but it just got emotional. Then I drilled a hole in my ladder rack, and installed Our American flag. Had to make a little adjustment the next day, so the flag didn't wrap around the pipe. After that, no matter which way the wind was blowing, she was straight out, proud!!! If I told you the response I got, it would be a long book. Have you ever thought of running flags on your trucks? With the choas in the world, all Our country, might give people more hope. Just a thought. As we say, stay safe! God's got your back. Amen brother 🙏

Hi Ron, this might be the last KZbin video I'll be able to watch because KZbin is now cracking down on ad blockers. So far, I'm not sure how to disable the blocker so I've tried to contact KZbin to help me with this issue. If I can't get this fixed, I'll be extremely sad because I Love Your videos and everything about you and your channel...!!!

KZbin doesn't care about viewers... other than the ad revenue they generated them, but they don't bother following the AUP for what is permitted for ads (don't get me started on how ads use specific frequencies to seem to be louder to our ears, bout not trip auto-leveling to reduce the volume), nor police the disinformation videos. sometimes incognito mode works to watch videos... or changing the URL a bit... It's an arms race between adblockers and youtube... and will continue till youtube decides to throw in the towel (or is legislated to do so, which is more likely). But that the blocker wish is run without a massive tech services can keep breaking it, gives me some happyness.

if on laptop/pc you should be able to click on the lil adblocker logo up on the top right of the screen. a lil list will appear with a slider for "enable/disable" on this website. make sure it's showing red instead of green. ad-blocker should then be turned off for youtube. thats how it worked on mine

Wow cant believe someone did something like that to cause a second crash! Once again great work ron, although i am surprised the tator still has that original siren on it, genuinely curious about the code 3 (hopefully this doesnt sound too repetitive)

I might be misremembering but I think Ron bought the siren from a scrapyard and installed it in the shop. He also added the red and blue lights and a howler from an old firetruck.

In Missouri they are allowed to run red n blues and sirens upon authorization from highway patrol/dot. They are considered an Emergency service only within the state of Missouri. Where they are located they are not far from Illinois state border and are only allowed to run Amber lights and no sirens there.
