Fascinating. Speaking as a (sailplane) pilot (retired), I might have preferred a slightly better view over the nose. And knowing something about the aircrafts speed in order to avoid stalling, might be useful. GPS get you home also (as you say). Once those features (whether on screen or just voice) are available you'd be cooking with gas 👍 These days I no longer fly sailplanes but go cross country flying in Condor VR on the PC. A bit of me wonders what the essential difference is between VR and FPV in terms of pilot (rather than onlooker) pleasure. But hey, its all great fun and being able to formate accurately will make for great displays.

Yeah...I need to be sitting higher up in that cockpit. I've transferred the gimbal/camera into a bigger Yak11 for the next test and think the view will be much better with that aeroplane being a lower winger. Video on my channel for that in the next few days. Maybe I'll try a glider in the not too distant future.

They should add real compass ans other real stuff inside cockpit

Problem is the FPV camera wouldn't be able to focus on it...otherwise it would be awesome to have realistic cockpit instrumentation. I've just got telemetry OSD working with my next installation into a Yak11. That will be interesting. Even adding a pitot tube for proper air speed.

If only we could have a system that uses a 360° camera to do away with the size and weight of the mounting gimbal and servos.

I get what you are saying but would take too much processing power and time to extract a narrower view of the two frames captured from the 2 back to back cameras in a 360 unit after they've been stitched together. Having edited 360 videos a few times the process really pushes the GPU in my high gaming desktop PC. Sometimes the GPU gets so hot the PC gives up and reboots itself. 🤣

Point taken, thank you for the explanation, very much appreciated. In that case I will probably buy one of these early in the New Year.

No crash is always a good flight.....😉 The only problem I saw, putting the camera inside the model, is that most of the time 50% or more of the screen is taken up by the interior of the plane. I want to see the outside to find my bearings and landing field. Yeah an OSD would also help.

I can probably lift the gimbal 2 to 3mm. I think that would make a big difference on visibility BUT it's a high winger so visibility would not be that much better. I'm in the process of putting that setup in the HobbyKing Yak11 which is a low winger. Will be much better and formation flying should be easier as well. I'm trying to get the OSD working as we speak. Hoping to fly it this weekend.

@@EssentialRC this is cool - I have that Hawk and a Zeus - new to FPV - how are you doing the OSD ? Excited!
