Showing again the easy install of the HD Pro Kit and GM Gimbal from Caddx Walksnail but in a faster RC aeroplane this time. The HobbyKing Yak-11 has the perfect cockpit and canopy for this FPV system. With just a wedge of foam under the mount to get it at the correct height we get awesome views while in the air. In the next video I fly formation with Trevor's Yak-11 !

If you watch this back Dom, you can tell how slow you were flying on approach, and the Yak see-saw right before the stall takes hold. Very interesting to watch. Be good to see the system in other models.

Yup. I put out full flaps and not done that before. Doesn't need it. All previous flights were half flap on landing. Don't know why I did that. Minimal damage. 30 minutes later we had 2 epic formation flights ! Video of that on Monday.

I love my GL and GM3 a lot. Cam movement feels very natural and the stabilisation is top. No need for post processing with Gyroflow. I get the same feeling as I was flying the real gliders longtime ago. One tip: In INAV you can select the "virtual airspeed" option. You need a GPS. The wind speed and direction is the calculated drift during flight. In the OSD I have 1. GPS ground speed, 2. the wind speed, 3. wind direction and 4. the airspeed. I fly only on air speed and wind direction on all my INAV planes. Works very well for me, also during landings.

I've got an actual air speed sensor, just not had time to fit it. Surely better to use actual airspeed rather than virtual? But thanks for the info. Have you got the pan/tilt/roll ratios working so you get more gimbal movement for each degree of head movement? I changed the values under the head tracking menu in the goggles L but has no affect. If I look left 90 degrees I want the gimbal to pan left 180 degrees. Wonder if I need to upgrade the gimbal firmware.

@@EssentialRC Not sure if actual pitot reading will be better? I have one but never used it. Never compared them both mounted on one plane. Virtual measurement gives you the constant updated wind direction in your OSD, for me very convenient planning landing approach and low speed flying. My 2 GM3 gimbals are on FW V3.2 and WS FW V38.43.4. With this FW combination I get a natural feeling and full one to one movement between GL and GM3. No ratio adjustments possible. Sometimes bad video reception when I turn my head to look at the back of the plane. Just got the gimbal update tool and will update to FW V3.4 and the latest WS FW soon. I think you need to update both the Gimbal FW, the GL FW and the WS FW to get ratio adjustments proper working?

@@ApappieK Maybe. I'll get the update connector for the gimbal and try it. Andrew Newton thought ratios might only work in PPM mode, not PZK...but go to try. So need it for flying fixed wing.

I'll have telemetry displayed for the next flight. Was a very close stall to the ground. No harm done. The 2 formation flights we did subsequently were epic. Some aerobatics next time out.

Fabulous experiment and ASI and altimeter data on display should really make for interesting fullsize emulation of piloting skills 👍Whats the weight penalty with this gear on board. Could a bit of weight be saved by using airflow over the FPV onboard gear rather than having a dedicated fan? And in time, or is ther ealready, a 'return to home' switch/function or a direction to fly indicator in the FPV display if a pilot loses sight of the field. Looking forward to following progress 🙂 P.S. just seen the crash at the end - that might be a bigger problem when flying FPV but hopefully an ASI will help and you've already cracked the wingtip ready for splicing in the ASI 👍

The FPV gear adds negligible weight in terms of the overall weight of the model but I need a separate battery. On the day I had forgotten a connector so had to use a larger battery for it...but caused no issues with balance. The fan is very small so no advantage in removing that. Actually it is needed because even on the ground the video transmitter can overheat quite quickly. The flight controller I am using can provide RTH, loiter, cruise and many other features if setup. I may get around to that soon.

@EssentialRC Looking forward to watching what you get up to. As a boy, back in the 1960s, I used to dream of being able to fly a B29 (of all planes!) with a view from its cockpit provided by a TV camera. That day has finally arrived 😆👍

You need to buy an extra component from Caddx for the Goggles X for Head Tracking

If you have Inav..,,why not try " Autolaunch"?...and Autotune,etc....

I'm only providing telemetry from the FC to the VTX so far. I've not plugged the receiver or servos into the FC. Might do that in the future. Auto-launch is only for hand launched models buddy. The main reason for using it would be RTH in the unlikely event that the FPV connection is lost.
