In this vid dave goes lightly over what valve guide reaming is and explains how and why we use a hand drill to ream the guide! Lots of good info in this one!

Do you hone after reaming ? I’ve heard the finish is ready to run after reaming, others say the hone holds oil…but will polish out over time…thanks
@headgames3 ай бұрын
we just ream, no need to hone it unless it is not to size.

Straightforward and easy to understand, great vid. Would be interested to see how you polish cams after they've had contaminated oil run through. Also would be interested to hear your take on deck surface finish, does the head need to be milled every time it is serviced to get a fresh surface?

I've always been told size is a personal preference for my reamer size too.

What is the style/model of reamer you're using? A lot of reamers I see for sale online look much shorter. I'm looking to enlarge my 5/16" valve guides to 11/32" on small block mopar magnum heads. thanks

Interesting videos. Any experience with Subaru FB16 engines? Am planning to rebuild one NA for 200 whp

Never even heard of that engine. So that’s a no

Hello, over the winter i eanted to port my supercharger 1G-fe engine. It comes na stock, is there anything to look for when porting an cylinder gead with a "fuel econmic" design that is turned into a performance engine. Is there any way to know that i wont hit any cooling channels ?
@headgames Жыл бұрын
I would just leave it alone unless your making some real power with it. 800+whp then worry about porting it. We have never done a 1G-FE to know dimensions on how big to make it. If you hear it an echo stop!

So, does the valve to guide clearance change with the type of environment its going to be used in?
@headgames Жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, but only a few tenths of a thousandths
@REPerformanceUK Жыл бұрын
Hello Dave, why do you ream your guides over honing? Love the vids mate!
@headgames Жыл бұрын
@@REPerformanceUK Thanks for the kind words! Great question! Because it's so much faster and more repeatable to get the correct reamer vs honing. We do still hone a few things but for the most part we ream all of our most common.

@@headgames Does valve clearance adjustment add to horsepower?
@headgames Жыл бұрын
@@prophet6896 I have heard people say that but I don’t think it’s true. A couple of thousandths of an inch is not enough to sway your whp.
