This video shows how to remove heavy staining over a large area on a headliner. I show the method, treatment , and technique needed to carefully bring that headliner back to original condition. Even though newer headliner is a bit easier to work with. A certain level of common sense is needed to prevent damage and adhesive fail.

You can use a large gauge hypodermic needle for a sagging failing headliner. You inject the adhesive in the sagging areas and apply pressure until it bonds. I've fixed several with this method and usually it looks as good as new.

Hey, Apex! Ray here :) thanks for the help, friend!...You guys have come to the right place for help. God Bless. Quick side note to everyone- cover your seats etc when you have your car worked on. Considering the amount to grime a mechanic is exposed to, there's no way your car is driving away unscathed.

Apex Detail could I use tide fabric softener? I got coca cola on my headliner just like that! Think I opened a shook bottle trying to relax n got the opposite. I was so heated I never came back to clean because I knew I ruined it...but not anymore lol thanks again!!

Thank you for sharing your tips. I don't have steamer so I just gave it a fine mist of water + tide cold and let it set for several minutes. Then I misted it once more and gently wiped with microfiber towels. A heavy rainstorm came while the back tilt was in the up position. When morning came it had already dried a lot looking much better than I expected it would. But with your tips it is completely cleaned up now.

Excellent results yet again, i often use valet pro enzyme odour eater on headliners as it does not react with the glue unlike apc and the like, also gets rid of smells like tobacco very well with either one or two applications, it leaves a nice lemon smell on first using that after the product has worked to no smell what so ever..cheers for another great video.

Is this the method you still use? I had 2 cans of cokes blow up in my car summer 2018. Due to health problems I wasn’t able to get out there myself and get it out, and getting it done professionally was several hundred dollars. Do you think it’s been too long? I’ve tried using a towel to clean it, but it’s not getting the job done completely. Can I use a small brush like the kind your would to clean your nails?

@apexdetail85
@apexdetail85 7 жыл бұрын
That will depend largely on what is causing the stain or discoloration
@4G12
@4G12 7 жыл бұрын
Apex Detail The headliner itself is most likely cardboard since one part of it's adhesives has failed and I had a decent look beneath it. There is only hollow air space i.e. no foam or any other cushions. This design seems to do a very good job of thermal isolation since the headliner had never gotten warm even after hours under direct afternoon tropical sunlight, but trouble is, it has some brown stains that seem like random dirt, grease, who knows what at randomly distributed areas. The seperated area should be quite easily glued back, but what I'm concerned is what cleaning techniques are safe for basically paper. I'm thinking of testing with APC or Degreaser blotting with wetted microfiber, and I guess steam or extractors are out of the question. I look forward to your experienced opinion on this. For reference, this is a 94 model of what would be called the Mitsubishi Montero in the USA.
@apexdetail85
@apexdetail85 7 жыл бұрын
4G12 The stains may be coming from small leaks at the seams of the roof. I see it a lot! Before you go to a degreaser... gently dab and massage in some Tide and fabric softener with a microfiber. Let it sit for a few minutes and THEN try to work out the stain. All that while trying to not over saturate. Its a balance that takes some practice. If that is not quite strong enough... try your apc.

Been detailing for a company for years and im currently enlisted in the Army going through my tech training and want to start doing side detailing again ok my free time and I got to say headliners were always my enemy back at my old job, removing the stains wasn't the issue but leaving water marks was the hard part.. I didn't see any eater marks left on the headliner here and wanted to know what is it about this technique that doesn't leave them behind? I was always cautious about how damp I got the headliner but they always seemed to leave some slight discoloration
