You'd be suprised with the innovation that is happening with earphones right now. Alot of chinese companies are making iems that sound like 100+ dollar earphones you get with mainstream brands, for like 20 bucks. Stuff like salnotes zeroes, tangzu wan'er, qkz x hbb khan. They call it "chi fi".

personally rocking the blon bl03, got them for 21 bucks on the blon website right around black friday. I have been so happy with them. As an audiophile, you did an excellent job with your research and in general respect for the hobby. This vid is a great overview of the entire audio landscape, and not just the super-mainstream landscape. I instantly knew that you did your research when you said and defined IEMs by name. Even huge tech KZbinrs will still call an $800 pair of IEMs, earbuds. Huge respect from the dedicated audio community.

Something to know about headphones is that they have never gotten better, just more convenient. For example, a pair of stax electrostatics from the 80s or hd600 which is now 26 years old, sound absolutely fantastic, even compared to modern headphones. The hd600s could even be considered one of the best headphones under $500 you can buy today. The improvements in headphones are features such as wireless and noise cancelling.

The general majority seem to prefer the sound of M40X, but 50s can't lose tbh. I have a set of 40s that I've had for years, they make everything sound great. they’re called closed back headphones because there are actually two types of over ear headphones, closed back and open back. as the name says they are literally open on the shell and that makes wider sound. and closed backs are closed, thats better for bass. just wanted to say that

I'm listening to this video on Powerbeats 4. Bought them secondhand (or refurbished) for a 1/3rd of the price and they have worked quite well for the last year or so. Good profile and I like having a wire around my neck so I don't have to put the headphones in a case. A benefit there is the cable is a part of the ear loop. Hoping I can get more mileage out of them than others I have had in the past.

Hella good quality for closed back, used mainly for gaming with a 3.5+ mic I bought, and for high end wireless 40+ hour listening and wired hyper detailed listening.

(8:26) It’s me. I’m rocking Shokz (Formerly Aftershokz), the leading brand of bone conduction headphones. What’s cool about these headphones is they don’t block your ears at all. If you have ear drainage, as I do, these can come in handy. It also means you can hear everything around you as you listen. Quality isn’t extremely great, but it’s really notable for open ear headphones, and they’re pretty easy to use Plus, 99% of people assume they’re hearing aids, which means you can get away with listening in class hehe

I have $10 pair of earbuds plugged into my PC for the past 4-5 years. They're work great, fit well, and are durable af. When I'm VCing friends on Discord, I have an 8 year old gaming headset with mic that still works surprisingly well, both in audio and mic quality. I just don't daily drive them due to the audio being a bit too loud for my tastes. My on-the-go earbuds are a $30 set of Tozo T12. They get the job done. 7.9/10 audio quality, but still good.

The best value headphones are the HD6XX imo. If you want to go cheaper, get the SHP9500. If you want to go more expensive get the Meze Empyreans. I got big ears and my head gets hot so I need a lot of padding and airflow - all of those are great choices comfort- wise. The SHP9500 don't have great bass but the soundstage, price, and comfort make up for it. The HD6XX could be the last headphones you buy, but if you wear them for +8 hours a day I found the headband kinda dug into my head a bit. The Empyreans really are the best I've ever heard. The bass is crazy deep and you could wear them for the rest of your life and they'd still be comfortable. But for most people, just stick to the HD6XX.

In the 1970's, I tried out a number of headphones. I settled on AKG K240 headphones, and I did get Sennheiser MM-400X Bluetooth headphones because my used, eBay MacBook Pro's headphone jack was toast. I did buy a Dr.Dre Bluetooth headphone when the local Radio Shack cleared out everything. It's probably best for listening to KZbin videos, since they can't match either the AKG or Sennheiser for "music detail." I did use Apple iPod Earbuds, but those chafe after a while. In-ear stuff is just plain uncomfortable over time. So, I listen to the Lenovo ThinkPad's laptop speakers.
