Thay is offering a Dharma Talk in Plum Village on the New Years Eve, during the winter retreat of 2012-2013 on how to experience Nirvana in our daily lives. Right here and right now. He is teaching about the island within, the true home within ourselves, the Noble Eightfold Path, and how we can truly understand the teachings of Buddhism and Christianity by letting go of our dualist thinking.
Thay's New Year resolution: "I am determined not to waste my life. I dare to live the life that I want to live. I want that every step I make on this planet to bring joy to me and to other people, and to touch Nirvana and the Kingdom of God with every step."

I believe he is the greatest teacher of our time. I have heard others criticise his work saying that it is out of date, or unrelatable this is just an unknowingness or insecurity from other monastics/ people or teachers, yes we are developing other ways, new techniques as we have problems never faced before in our world, but the teachings behind the application of the practice are timeless.

Regarding the coughing this is a well known and studied phenomenon. As in it’s been scientifically studied. Basically people will cough more in these settings than outside of it. Once they leave they stop. Why is that? There are a few reasons. 1. When people are bored 2. When people hear one another cough it becomes a “contagious” urge to also cough even though they’re not sick, the urge arises 3. When what they are watching is not captivating their attention, they listen to each other cough and the urge to cough increases It’s been shown in studies that they cough much more in these settings than when the presentation is over. Same with orchestras. This is studied from classical music concerts. I went to music school and this is something we had learned about also. Here are a few more interesting points. 1. When something interesting happens, the coughing stops. For example in a very dramatic or exciting portion of a movie or symphony etc. 2. When the exciting part stops and goes back to the part that does not captivate the audience’s attention, the coughing resumes (because they’re paying attention to one another cough). Ironically, paying attention to the coughing and not the show is probably the biggest contributor to this phenomenon. These folks simply aren’t paying attention or it’s boring to them and they’re listening to one another cough and then the urge becomes unbearable and they start coughing 😂. I can relate to that I’ve also been in this situation and found myself magically having an extreme urge to cough even when before I didn’t. Just a weird quirk of human beings. To prove my point in case you don’t believe me, pay attention to when Thay has a very interesting story to tell that capture’s the audience’s attention and notice how the coughing stops. And when he resumes a part that loses their attention the coughing also resumes.

you don't have to die in order to go to the kingdom. in fact, you have to be very alive, you have to be fully present in the here and now, and if you can do that, you take a step and go to the kingdom. the most beautifil place of heaven is on earth. the kingdom is right here and now. the kingdom doesn't have to come, it's already here. so our friends will come to polish and joined walking meditation, and if they have enough mindfulness and concentration, they enjoy the kingdom of god in every step, they enjoy nirvana at every step. we know that there is no way to nirvana, nirvana is the way, the path.

"The ultimate in beauty? It is that which mends and inspires the soul, and all creation." "Special is that something, or someone, that invokes more in all." "Beauty is that being, who stands as such, who stands for more, who stands for better." "To have a heart, is a blessing. To have a heart, allows one to care. And to care for life, beyond your life, is a love that is ultimate - for it is boundless and knows no death." "I am not the product of myself. I am the sum total of all that l’ve encountered. Honor our Creator, plus all our creators, & give back to life, for what life has given to us." ~ Paul Jung

"Do merits , refrain from doing sins, tackle your mind , this is the budhism " Basis of budhism is reincarnation and law of karma . If have no confidence search on internet and in books for proofs. In theravada tradition you get lot of meditation techniques . There are lot of gods but no supreme god . There can't be a creator coz who created the creator , why not only good people , why not world without any problem, why doesn"t he appear before us.In world history nobody has ever seen him. We shouldn't do anything to others what we don't them to do to us, call " Aththuppanayake dharma " Five ways to attain final stage 01. Listening to budhist lectures 02. Teaching what you know about budhism to others 03. Meditation 04. Chanting 05. Thinking what you know about budhism Try this , Having known this , " Gods, brahmas and human beings were benefited by lord Budhdha " Keep chanting this and other qualities of triple gems for all evils , " Gods, brahmas and human beings were benefited " Further , Visiting four places highly recommended namely birth place of lord budhdha , where he became Budhdha , where he conducted first lecture and place where he passed away . According to " Maha parinibbana sutta " all four places should be on a straight single line with similar distances among those places " May triple gems bless you !

It's a big community from all over the world before our time of masks. Its normal that there will always be someone sick. Thich Nhat Hanh recommends if something disturbs you make it a reminder to come back to your breath and to be mindful so you transform irritation into something skillful. Wishing you all the best and continued effort in order to develop your understanding of the dharma. May you be well and happy wherever you are Fernando 🙏🏻
