My best diet is animal based with lots of red meat, dairy, small amounts of bread from freshly milled grains, macademia nuts, and cooked vegetables. Nothing sweet at all- not even fake sugars. I had my healthiest pregnancy at 36 years old on that diet. I was wearing my old jeans at 2 weeks post partum! Couldn't believe it.

I love it when you talk gut health and healing! I have been suffering from laryngopharyngeal reflux probably as long as I can remember, but it flared up after ny son was born three years ago. I've been t the point where I can't breathe properly for almost a year. Nothing I've done, even elimination diets, have helped. No supplements, no doctors, nothing. Even went for an endoscopy! I am at my wits end and I can't function properly because I'm in so much pain and discomfort, and, as I mentioned, can barely breathe. Still praying and trusting and trying to find answers so I can get better! Your videos are an inspiration and encouragement! Thanks, Steph! Also, I'm so happy to hear you feel better! It's hard to do the intense changes sometimes needed, but if they help you to feel better and lose weight and give you the energy you need to live well, then it is totally worth it! ❤

Great job being diligent with your gut healing. Happy for you! This is encouraging since I’m already planning on putting my whole family on the GAPS diet in Jan. We had some mold in our home which was just remediated and I think the gut reset and detox portion of the diet will be really good for all of us… just not looking forward to all the complaining from kiddos. I know I’ll be happy after… and hopefully during! Encouraging to be reminded of all the benefits. Since we are coming from a nutrient dense diet which already includes ferments, etc I’m hoping it won’t be too rough on anyone.

Just had 8th baby at 37. Been lifting weight for 2 years because last baby at 35 I couldn’t lose the weight. I plateaued at 150lbs. I ended up doing whole 30 and adding in weights. Helped immensely. Then right before I got pregnant with baby 8, I found out about about betrayal in my marriage over the course of our entire relationship (12 yrs). It nearly destroyed me, still sooo hard. This time I’m being way more intentional about health because I am breastfeeding ( have been for 11 years through all my pregnancies and tandem feed after every new birth). Funny how so many think breastfeeding just causes weight to fall off. Not so I think at times it causes us to hold on to weight to be able to make milk when our diets aren’t the best. Anyway long story short, I am 4 months PP and needing to clean up my diet because stress of my marriage has me not caring if I need sugar to cope. I am again played at 145 and my typical weight is 130. So I told myself it begins yesterday. Praying in the midst of so much trauma, I can feel empowered in this way. Thanks for encouraging me to keep going!

GAPS didn’t work for me. Tried it twice and followed the book to a T! It was WAY too low carb for me and I lost more weight than I could afford. I looked emaciated with my eyes and cheekbones sunken in. My husband was seriously worried about me and we both thought I was dying! Never again! I now eat pro metabolically and am truly healing. I also have Fibromyalgia from years of childhood trauma, which is healing also from what I eat and calming/regulating my nervous system! So grateful to God every day!! 🙌🏻❤️

First 2 babies were in my 20s, the weight came right off. My next 2 babies were in my 30s and I did not bounce back at all! I got C*vid, and got my autoimmune diagnosis. I spent the last 3 years getting in remission. Part of it was diet. I'm now pregnant with #5 and follow a paleo diet. I can't do keto cause it makes my cholesterol rise. Between paleo, and food adversions, I have actually lost weight (it's healthy to do so when overweight), and morning sickness has been very manageable. I am dealing with hair loss right now. So I have added liver into my diet to up my iron.

My question is to do with the long-term. If I take grains and dairy out of my diet, will it make my body incapable of tolerating them in the long run? I worry I’ll be making my body lose its ability to digest and metabolize the things I eliminate. What do you think about that? I’m so close to doing gaps in January but for this one concern. At eight months pregnant I had to have an appendectomy and after he was born I suffered my first gallbladder attack, so I had to have that removed. After all of that I had major stomach issues. My sister talked me into becoming a vegetarian. I was fine for years but I started having heart issues. I don’t have problems eating deer or anything we raise but commercial meats takes a toll on me. Meat is the way to go for sure. Thank you for all you do! Happy Thanksgiving.

I don't own any animals but I'm planning to expand my cooking repertoire, and organ meats are something I would love to become more confident with. (My local butcher sells chicken carcasses cheaply for homemade dog food and I made some of the best soups of my life from that very cheap protein source.) Kidneys are something I haven't been able to get away with, just because I can't find a way to cook the weewee taste put of it. 😂 Kidneys aside, do you have any recipes you would recommend to a beginner?

@vanguardiris3232 Funny story! I cooked what I thought was liver for my husband while I had covid and he asked me "what that smell was" which I couldn't smell, and again commented on how the liver tasted off but of course I had no sense of taste either. Long story short I cooked chopped kidneys not liver. 😅 So I use a half cup of heart meat sliced (make sure to cut out the valves and also the cardiac fat) one big potato chopped, carrots and celery to taste or based on what I have around. A tsp pepper and a tsp salt and fill up to the taper on the jar with broth. I use a 24oz jar for canning.

I just put in a big order with White Oak Pastures in Bluffton, GA. I’m thinking with how much you know, research and read.. you’ve heard of this place and the boss Will Harris. He’s taught me so much about meat and animals. We don’t have animals of our own (yet) for meat and for our own food. I’m trying to find someone local to get our meat from. But he explained about eating animal organs and he sells them at his place in GA and online. He explained that when an animal dies in nature whatever animal finds it eats the organs first before the other parts of the body. And there’s a reason for that. I recently even took our dogs dry food away. Again, he opened my eyes to even that. Why feed them processed food when I’ve taken processed food from my life. So my Merle and Champ have been loving chicken livers and a mix of vegetables. Haha. Like GAME CHANGER. All it takes is just a little more time at meal time vs throwing a scoop of dry food in a bowl. Even with our pets… we tend to prefer convenience like we do with our own food and meals. I enjoyed this video. I like when you get on the subject of food and the body. I’ve learned a lot from Dr. Casey Means and her book Good Energy too. All it takes is one step or change at a time in our kitchen, cooking and what foods we buy (outside of what we can’t grow or raise ourselves) To me, it all makes sense and really simple in a lot of ways. The quality of food is life. 🩷

You should check out the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, and read the book that it came from called Breaking the Vicious Cycle. I know you don’t have an irritable bowel disease, but her concepts about how specific carbohydrates are harder to break down for a damaged gut really open to my house to why I had such a hard time with particular carbohydrates since I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Your videos inspire me. I noticed with my second child at age 30 the weight was definitely hanging around, and it wasn’t until I started to have some autoimmune symptoms a couple months postpartum, and I cut grains out that I started to lose weight and feel better. My baby is 4 1/2 months so I’m just a few months behind you with your fifth child and I’ve been able to take inspiration and encouragement from your choices. What if we can’t afford olive oil ? What affordable alternative would you recommend for those of us on an extremely restricted budget ?

If you can, you can also render beef fat (beef tallow). You can ask your local butcher/meat department if they have any excess fat trimmings. Usually they get rid of fat trimmings so they may be able to help! I’m currently in Georgia 🇬🇪 and the butcher here has helped us out tremendously! He’s given us probably over 30lbs of animal fat for FREE for the past couple months.

@@ShaePiepszowski Shae I would love to learn more about this … are you using the tallow in place of conventional oil in certain things only ? Thank you for sharing. I will look into this !

@@terisusanne4299absolutely! I use it for everything (searing, sometimes frying fries, even as a hand moisturizer when I need it). There are a myriad of uses for using animal fat. The one thing you probably can’t use it for is a salad dressing lol 😅 but I cook everything in animal fat :). Also rendering animal fat is very simple. I personally cut the trimmings into tiny pieces (using scissors), thought it’s not necessary, but it does help it render a littler quicker. Rendering fat is done on low heat. And then once it’s rendered and cooled down a bit, you pour it through a softer into a jar (or other suitable containers). The sifter will catch all the fat cracklings. If you’d like to see a little visual, I have a little shorts video on my channel where I rendered a small amount of lamb fat. There are some people who have butchers that will actually put the fat through the meat grinder for them (so they’re in tinier pieces of fat, quicker for the customer to render at home). Some local butchers (depending on their services) will even render the fat for the customer and just sell them a bucket of already rendered animal fat. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Forgive me if you've already answered this a million times, but doe s your whole family eat this way with you? Or just certain family meals are made this way, and other meals you eat differently? How were you able to manage this with a big family? Asking as a mother of soon to be five as well :)

In her other videos she said she's the only one doing the GAPS diet, and since the majority of her food on that diet was soups she would just make them in bulk and freeze the extra. If she did make a stew or soup for the family she'd eat it but take out what ever she was avoiding for her own pesonal bowl. I think she did mention after doing this food awhile she did decrease her children's sweetener intake but that was all.

People are catching on with the good animal wasteful part that is good for you, prices for it are going up because people are discovering it and more demand for it. I love ox tail and neck bones. And you are so knowledgeable and beautiful. After having a baby, Hmong woman usually do a thing call sitting on the month which consists only chicken soup with herbs and can only eat certain things.

I've tried cutting out grains quite a while back to try and reduce some Hashimoto symptoms, but I got insanely constipated (sorry for the TMI). I have to have a very high fiber diet to keep things going. I know can be fiber in lots of vegetables and fruits, but I can't seem to consume enough of those to make it work. Any suggestions?

That can happen while your body is adjusting. It’s best to slowly take them out in my experience and replace lost fiber with other fiber source. A good replacement is winter squash, pressure cooked. Perhaps a fiber supplement a couple times a week can help the transition, like Psyllium husk powder.

Fat is the fix to balance high protein with constipation. Either fattier cuts of meat or added butter. Also look into iodine for thyroid health.

Switch to Einkorn grain, it's 30% higher in protien and will help! I was constipated for YEARS and once I switched to Einkorn I've had no issues with that and feel SO much better. You can bulk buy it the cheapest at Azure Standard.

That’s my experience! I read that your body holds onto weight while nursing as a survival tactic so baby can still eat if you end up in a situation without food. I’ve also heard it’s more common to hold onto weight while nursing when you’re older.
