I made my PC unbootable by simply making a change of memory speed within the BIOS... I was using 4 sticks of ddr2 667/800 ram... the BIOS had the speed at 667 MHz... I switched the setting to 800 MHz, rebooted and that's when the PC wouldn't POST... it then started beeping 3 beeps 1 second long each... it cycled a couple of times then was silent but no post... HELP!

I also tried resetting the BIOS both with the jumper and pulling the CMOS battery but that didn't help... FYI

YOU are the BEST! If 2020 couldn't have gotten any worse, one of my 8gb stick decided not to be detected. After hours and hours of troubleshooting, the fix was as simple as cleaning the contact points with an alcohol pad.

This is first class. I bought a new Corsair M65 pro gaming mouse. I installed the Corsair software and plugged the mouse into the USB. The Dell Optiplex 9010 lasted 5 seconds before the display pixellated and the PC died, failing to boot and showing 3 orange flashes, followed by 2 orange flashes. The manual said it was likely USB failure. It wasn't. It was Ram failure. Wish I'd found your video earlier. Thanks very much.

Everything you said is happening to my machine. Edit: you should really mention ram speeds. They affect system stability also. Also, an example of system stability (after successfully booting to OS) can be shown with a video cutting to that point of time, as its impossible to predict it happening when you're recording single cuts. Terrific videos dude .. very thorough, very informative... a bad memory module can be a serious pain in the a**. My PC was randomly restarting all by itself. It would run a few hrs, then screen would go black & PC would reboot. That lasted a couple of days. Then it stopped displaying all together. PC would run but nothing would display. After trying everything a novice like myself knows (swap vga cable for hdmi, remove unnecessary peripherals, etc), I remembered that I had recently installed 4G more ram on the system. I removed that 4G stick (bought used on ebay) and wouldn't you know it, the PC came back to life. Morale of the story: don't buy used ram on EBay :)

I have watched numerous KZbin videos and finally i found someone that can logically teach me how to troubleshoot my PC. I had my PC stuck in a restart loop one day suddenly and i heard that the solution might be to clean my RAM sticks, so i took them out cleaned them with an eraser then put them back. Now it gives me a blank screen and i can conclude that i have somewhat damaged my rams even though i handled them very delicately. Do you have any solution?

WHY WOULD YOU CLEAN THEM WITH AN ERASER?! Really though, that can damage the ram and slots if there is eraser rubber still on the pins. I clean my ram with a cutip, just a light brush.

I mean, its not even worth having 3 slots so 2 would be most efficient. it works now after that. the only reason i was able to confirm that was the case because i was helping my little brother make his PC and after experimenting, indeed it was the CPU that was somehow not vibing with 4 sticks of ram

The videos and series are great. Keep it going. When you get a repair job, no matter how small or technical, good idea to film it and post your work up here on the channel as you have been doing. Even those older PC Desktops that you want to convert to gaming build. Perhaps you can tear them down back to a bare case, and demonstrate the build process from the very beginning to completion Another idea might be some videos on the software side of things. Primarily Windows installations from scatch, driver updates with a program like "Snappy Drivers Installer or DriverMax (I've tested and still testing these pieces of software, and they have worked a treat), applying the MS patches / updates, basic security setup, Windows optimization, particular software that you may be using, that you think the public could make use of, easy guide to backup solutions (really, how many people do regular backups??) Anyway, just some ideas which I'm sure you may have already thought of, but even though they may have already been done over and over, it's still good to have them on your own channel for your subscribers.

I have ADHD so I didn't notice if my problem was mentioned or not, but all of my ram sticks work, but only a single slot is working at the moment. A technician tested the slots and said the slots were all reading and all of the ram sticks work in that first slot, but the moment I try the two slots that the computer tells me it wants the sticks in it will not work (B1-B2 (Second and Fourth)), and not even A1-A2 (First and Third) work when attempted even though that was where the sticks originally were. The technician said that there might be some sort of failsafe blocking the other three slots from working, but he's not sure.

Nitpicking a bit here but there's generations of slotted memory before DDR1. You also had SDR and SIMM memory. There are even older types but then you're dealing with cards and then soldered chips. As for comparability, the FX series suffered along with Intel's ability to take higher density RAM. Ryzen 1st Gen had similar issues but was corrected with subsequent updates and generations.

I had 4gb ram in my computer. In 2020 my computer had some problems so I got it to a local shop and he fixed my PC. It turned out I had some power connection problem. But he took my 4gb ram and placed a corrupted 2gb on my PC. I used my PC rarely so didn't care. I had a laptop in 2020. So I didn't mind. But this June I got my PC with an extra 4gb ram. And in 3 weeks my PC stopped starting and some blinks were there. Finally in the end November I checked my PC and found out that the 2gb ram was faulty. I have removed the ram and have even checked all the slots. I will get another 2gb ram soon. Thnx it helped a lot.

For some reason my PC shows not monitor signal with 2 sticks, but not 1. My mobo is Asus Maximus Viii hero. If using 2 sticks, there will be no display signal form 1,2 modules, but posts from 3,4. The PC posts to windows form one ram stick. I swapped out the ram sticks. They both work

Thank you .Iam not a computer expert but I know quite alot .I found your channel and this video re RAM Very helpful .and recognized many terms or DDR ram and AMD . I think the long version video not edited are very good .I do hope we see mere as many of us still have these older Server PCs .I used to have friends to diagnose ,eg graphics and fans and why I was gettting no picture but but I did know the c drive was ok (There many issues you mentioned on the graphics card which now make sense to me .I manged to fix mine but after along time -when I could have simply used the VGA as a test . Same with RAM VERY good ,I just had an unusual message indicating loss of ram - .I found you channel by random but I found it helped a lot example to replace the ram -or it could be the mother board wow this is 5 year sago and we are still using some old p cs or server pcs which were built to last .I would recommend this channel it accurate -god diagnostics also accuracy about Ram and mother boards as you say some DDR has to be the exact for the pc and manufacturer model .Many of us suffer fro techno fear ezampe taking ram out to clean it and how to put it back in correctly sometimes has to be done at an angle . I hope you do more the lonf videolead me to watch more as I was learning all the time -some part I would have know many I did not veso very good .Hope you do more videos with the old servers .as the videos wee not edited it was clearer to watch -clear spech very good .

My brother. Thank you for an excellent video. So, if the computer will go through the motions of booting up yet comes up tblank screen then it's not the motherboard? I have had one issue years back where my son put a money in the usb port shorting the usb. Later one of the bank of my tri ram stopped working. Was thinking it was the motherboard as I swapped and nothing change. I have the tri-ram, apparently dual ram won't work. I had 3gb working then computer only recognized 2 now it won't boot up. Does ram go bad after time?

Of course Ram can gradually stop working, it varies depending on make and model, but a small portion will eventually fail faster than others within an acceptable margin of error. I haven't come across a system which needs tri-ram yet, that's interesting, I would like to check that out. And yes, if you do get a successful POST then its not your motherboard.

I had 3 sticks of ddr3 (each stick being 2gb. So a total of 6gb) and I recently got 16gb (two sticks of 8gb) Yes they were also ddr3. And I’m pretty sure my motherboard only allows up to 8gb of ram. So I only put one stick of 8gb in, and the pc boots up, but my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and mouse pad don’t turn on. So I put my old ram in (the 3 sticks of 2gb’s) and everything worked just fine. So my two sticks of 8gb of ram have been collecting dust ever since, but I would really like to figure out why I can’t use the new ram. Please help

About testing the ram slots ; you say take a ram and put it in the first and boot up, and repeat for the rest. Say ramslot 2 was faulty would the beep go off if you booted with the ram in 2? And what if your ram is faulty but your slots work, would the beep go off?

Can somebody please please help me, I recently connected a 2nd RAM to my pc, but then I saw it didn’t boot up, so I took out the 2nd ram, and just used my original one, and now my pc doesn’t show any input to the display and it turns on for like half a minute and then the fans turn off again, and then again and again same thing. Please I beg somebody to help me

Guys when i put a ram in slot 2 then start the pc then no displays like no signal. Please help

great video I just added ram for a customer that I repaired..came with 4gb underside of motherboard and 1 slot under the door. I tried a 4gb ddr3 in the top slot and when I booted the drive light lit and then wwnt out and the laptop powered off. I went through 6 used ram same problem. The 7th ram stick booted fine. Somehow I forgot that bad ram could be the problem because the bios does`nt beep for lenovo, learned a lot from video looking for part 1.
