I am Japanese and I love nattou so much. I promise it won’t harm you even if you eat it everyday. You will like it the more you get used to the taste and actually the smell is not that bad it is just its stickiness that makes it unappetizing for first time eaters. But yeah it’s healthy
@DanScottChannel2 жыл бұрын
I started making it a week ago and am on my second batch. I've been combinding it with cooked brown rice, soy sauce, sauteed onions and garlic as well as a little of ghee or olive oil. It's not bad! On day five, I had to use the bathroom five times...lol. BTW, it's vitamin K1 that effects blood thinning, not K2. Natto is high in vitamin K2, which is key in calcium metabolism.

I love natto! I am not Japanese and I had not even heard of it until a few years ago. After all that was said I expected it to be awful, but right from the first moment that I smelt it and tasted it I absolutely adored it. The texture reminds me of toffee before it sets. Yum! And so good for us too!

Oh, thank you so much, this is so encouraging, especially about the texture :)

I agree. It looks awful but actually tastes pretty good. I make my own and eat it on a daily basis, its interesting how the flavour subtly changes over a few days. I mix it with rice and finely chopped salad. It makes it easier to eat as the rice sticks to it and makes it easier to pick up with chopsticks. The smell is fine and not very strong unless you make your own, in which case it smells unpleasantish for the 1st 24hrs after it goes in the fridge. After that its a mild nutty and coffee groundish smell - quite nice.

The first time I tried it, I didn't use the accompanying mustard and soy sauce--big mistake! Those are in there for a reason! They make the taste of the natto milder and more palatable. Now, I eat it 5--6x a week! There's a Japanese store a few minutes from my house and they have several brands of it.

I also make my own Natto with a yogurt maker and put it in chili. You lose the microbes for the gut but keep the vitamin k2 for the bones and arteries.
@on-ye7ir4 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by You lose the microbes for the gut ?
@jesshansen13974 жыл бұрын
@@on-ye7ir Natto contains a probiotic bacterial species (Bacillus subtilis) that promotes gastrointestinal health, you get these benefits if you eat it at a temperature of less than about 160 degrees F. The bacteria in natto is heat resistant but too much heat will kill it. When I cook natto beans in chili it usually gets hot enough that I kill the beneficial bacteria but of course it maintains the vitamin k2. Some family members will not eat the natto raw but will eat it in chili, because the taste is disguised.

@@jesshansen1397 My 9 year old daughter has DVT, and a pulmonary embolism, on her left side for about three months now. It developed after she had a sever pneumonia and had to have a pleural effusion drainage in her right lung. She was also coughing up blood and had 103 fever for a few days. She still complains that the pulmonary embolism on her left lung, and her right lung, where she had the pleural effusion bothers her. This happened right before the epidemic got bad in New York. I believe she had the virus even though the doctors told us no. I also think they didn’t have the equipment to test her yet. We ask the doctors to test her for it. Their answer was they didn't believe she had the symptoms for it. Now looking back she had every symptom of it. Words can not express how much I love my daughter. This has me so worried that I haven't been able to rest ever since and I probably never will until she's completely healed. I search on the net everyday non stop for home/natural remedies as well as any other alternatives. I just brought Sovereign Colloidal Silver and started her on it yesterday. I have a nebulizer. I’m going to start administering the colloidal this way as well. If anyone else is knowledgable on the subject She is currently taking Lovenox. I keep seeing and hearing about Nattokinase and Serrapeptase. Can she take Nattokinase with the Lovenox? Any suggestion or regimen anyone can recommend is greatly appreciated. I just found out about Natto and started eating it last week. My husband had calcification of the arteries and my research led me to Vitamin K2-MK7, which led me to Natto. I bought Natto from a Japanese grocery store and made my first batch of Natto last week in my Instant Pot. With the blood clot issue that coronavirus can do, eating natto will hopefully will give us to minimize the damage the virus if we catch it (knock on wood).

This is so curious! I first tried Natto years and years ago because I saw it in anime and was super curious about this bizarre food. Completely forgot about it, but recently felt a random appetite for it! I had Covid for the first time this year and there seem to be studies suggesting that the infection can cause microclots in the blood, so it's funny that Natto seems to have blood thinning properties. I wonder if my body on some level knew this and that's why I started craving it so randomly now? Anyway I actually really like the taste. It's nutty and kinda has a cheesy funk to it. The texture takes more getting used to in my opinion, but add some cucumber and spring onion with plenty of rice and it's a lovely meal!

@GraceDollesin9 ай бұрын
Vitamin K1 is water soluble comes from green leafy vegetables that helps couagulation. Sounds scary but we need it otherwise a person can die of bleeding. Now , Vitamin K2 mostly comes from fat like hard cheese, eggs, butter and fermented foods like the mighty Natto which known to help eat/clean up fibrins in the body. It also prevents calcium from depositing in our arteries. These calcium deposits can contribute to developing of plaques in the heart, brain,bones and eyes. Calcium deposits in the heart can cause cardiovascular diseases, in the brain can cause Alzheimer’s, in the bones can cause arthritis or bone problems, in the eyes can cause like cataracts. That is all I know.

I think the presentation of the natto here was not done in the best way in how one should consume this superfood that has been around for centuries.. Again, they come in small styrofoam containers for a reason. The presenter should have added the soy sauce and mustard or anything else that adds to the flavor/blunts the strange natto smell, and kept it on a small plate! Not dump enough natto to feed a family of 8. It also should be eaten with Japanese rice, not by itself. Lastly, it would be so great to see some Asians represented on screen along with the Asian food being presented.. They missed all the cultural goodness!
