Please don’t say it’s free as we pay through our taxes. Lots of employers have extra health benefits. My husband luckily has incredible benefits where everything is covered. You don’t wait for emergencies but you do wait for non emergencies. I’ve been on the Canadian medical system for 52 years and would never give it up. If you come to Canada as a student or for work for over 6 months some Provinces require you to get the healthcare system we have.

Taxes, a walk in the park in comparison to Americans who lose their house over medical bills! Absurd!
@michaelmccrea50315 жыл бұрын
Canada does not have free Health care.. It is covered in taxes. And is administered by each province.

Lets make this clear. If you really think that Canadas HealthCare system is good, go over there. Try it yourself. Compare it to the United States HealthCare, and speak for yourself.

In canada the waiting time weeks , months , or a year, in USA the waiting time is forever if you don’t have insurance, if you have insurance the waiting time is until you save the money to pay for coinsurance+deductible+20%of all cost( deductible is around 5000 to 10000 usa dollars, coins is 50 to 400 dollars , let say your medical bill is 50000 the 20% is 10000 so you gonna have to pay 10000+ 10000+ 400= 20400 i think will take you 15 years to save 20000 if you have wife and kids and less you have a house you can sell in order to get the money to pay the 20400$ this is the case if you have insurance if you don’t have insurance you can kiss good by health care, btw canadian system sucks too

Thanks for the video. In a case of combination of OHIP and benefits - is it a good idea to go walk-in clinic to avoid waiting for an appointment for a long time? In other words what is the fastest way to get help if I have both plans? Cheers

Completely unrelated to this video's subject but.. how is it like for gay people in Canada? I have read nothing but nice things online but directly asking someone who lives there seems like a more reasonable thing to do. Thanks in advance!
@xsheebax7 жыл бұрын
+Joaquin C thats an excellent question! A lot of my close friends in Canada are and have been gay. And I have to say; they live and express themselves very comfortably!! I went to the pride parade with them a few times too. This was in Ottawa and Toronto as well as Montreal. If you were asking for yourself, I dont doubt Canada will be more than welcoming to you! :))) hope that helps!

So if I were to come to Canada on a work permit, I would not qualify for Canada's healthcare? Did you qualify for healthcare under the type of stay that you are currently living under. If so, what is that?
@maiconjunior23036 жыл бұрын
Amy Kitchens good question. Did you ever find out the answer?
@mhachey7836 жыл бұрын
Likely, you already found the answer, but in case you didn't here is my understanding. A temporary foreign workers who hold a valid work permit may be eligible for coverage. The worker must be employed full-time for an employer in the province for a minimum of 6 months. I would suggest contacting the ministry of health in the province you intend to work in for details.
@mstrsandhu49506 жыл бұрын
You would be covered via health card but instead of getting it for free you will have to pay sign up fee of $150 plus if u have goof employer they usually offer their own health card too I have both but I would suggest to invest 150 in health card too you never know what might help right ? Prescribed medicans sucks but still it is much cheaper than us prices as Canada regulates it's medical industry

What I am seeing here is that if you live in one province, you get it free, but if you drive to another province, it is suddenly not "free" (paying $100). That is still in Canada. In the USA, you may be in one state, but suddenly find your self in another state (province if you will) and can cost you some. Still not free. Government has the right to say what is considered as "emergency" and what requires a specialist, like a dentist. Though an abscessed tooth can be dangerous to your health. So going to a private health care is far better, but only for the rich in Canada because there is nothing in between. In the USA, you have all ranges which makes it more affordable (though still not cheap, but you really don't want "cheap").
@mhachey7836 жыл бұрын
In another Canadian province or territory, you will be covered for free for the same services covered by your province of origin. All you need is a valid health card. Depending on the province, you might have to pay a small nomimal fee which is more annoying than a hardship. Note that we can get health insurance in Canada to cover dental and eyecare costs. Why would anyone think that insurance is not available for parts not covered by the government? Of course, if you don't have private insurance paid by you or your workplace, this will come out of your pocket. Note that if an abscessed tooth is left untreated and the infection spreads, then you will be treated in a hospital for free because that would be considered an emergency.

We are really fucking retarded.....I mean look who our president is? I mean people In this country actually believe that a billionaire businessman is going to "work" for the American people and not his wallet, and his brand. I would gladly trade Steven Harper or Andrew Schreer for him. The Trumptards in our red states don't understand that low skilled manufacturing jobs are never coming back, and the only people who will benefit from this administration are going to continue to be the top 1%. Although I will say, Barack Obama also screwed the American people as well. He easily could have implemented serious reforms to our healthcare system with a democratic house and senate and choose not to because they are all bought Dems and Republicans. Universal healthcare will never happen for that reason because our politicians are bought by big pharma companies. But don't worry, we have plenty of money for wars if we need it.

The health care system in Canada is completely garbage. I've been diagnosed with something over 6 months ago and been waiting for test results for over that amount of time since it's backed up with people just with a sniffle. Was suppose to finally get the results this week but got cancelled cause the doctor is away. Now I've got to wait anther two months cause the doctor is completely booked up. Thanks a lot socialist healthcare.

Hig Hog Really? I have a friend who lives near Toronto. Recently broke his wrist in a bike accident. He went to the emergency room and waited for 11 hours until he could no longer stand the pain. He went to a paid clinic which ended up charging him nearly 2000 dollars just to wrap up his wrist. He is leaving Canada soon just for that reason.
