Not so much food prep, but cut prep helps me a ton. Having cut veggies and onions in the fridge is often the reason why I have a healthy dinner when I'm stressed/back from work/etc, over an unhealthy one. I am not cutting anything when it's dinner time and I'm hungry. So cutting everything in advance for a few days is the best option for me!

That's what I'll do. Pick out recipes based on sales/availability/things I need to use up, prep everything, and then use and cook throughout the week. It's called batch prepping, and it's been a HUGE time and money saver!

I have found that freezing the tofu when it is intended for a taco meat or chili type of dish gives a better texture. Freeze, thaw, squeeze the water out and either crumble or shred. It looks like a sponge and it soaks up and holds whatever sauce it is in. That is so much food. It all looks delicious. Does it all get eaten by two people in a week?

I think food prep versus meal prep is an ADHDers friend. I like healthy consistency but find I get very bored quickly and struggle to have any appetite. So having everything prepped and being able to combine any meal I fancy is definitely a must. As an aside for your dressing I recently got some Norpro 11 Ounce Glass Salad Dressing Shaker/Maker with Recipes which ironically I got imported to the UK from the US. This would be great for your dressing if you are trying to get away from plastic. Plus recipe ideas on the side of the bottles.

I'm a huge meal prep fan; I can eat the same thing multiple days in a row if it's good. My husband gets bored of things really quickly, unless it's something he's *obsessed* with, and even then he won't want it for longer than 3 or 4 days at a time; so I've learned how to food prep and also meal prep smaller amounts that we can swap between through the week. Sometimes I do a lazy week where the recipes are so easy I can cook a couple times during the week after work with no issue; and other times I go all out with an entire menu lol It's about balance and finding what works best for you (and any others you cook for in your household) 😄

I prefer food prep instead of meal prep, just like you. I tend to never crave the specific meals I have meal prepped, and want to have the freedom to adjust it to my mood of the moment. I really like to see what you are prepping to get some inspiration, especially nice to see that you combine things in a different way. What kind of jar do you use for fermenting the pickles? Would like to try that out as well!
@Mimsp6 ай бұрын
I’d love to food prep, as food tends to be a source of stress for us - the fact that we always have to think what we are going to eat, every single time. But it’s hard to take the time to plan ahead of time, and the best way to store and combine. I’m a much more relaxed eater so I can just put some veggies and beans together while my husband needs to have a proper meal. He’s French, I guess that’s why. However, he is also an anxious person so anything sitting on the fridge for longer than two days will also be a source of stress, and we can’t eat the same thing two meals in a row 🥲

The pickle thing is so interesting! I'm Eastern European and over here, we don't really have a specific word for pickles because we make a distinction between pickled (kyslé - literally "sour") and fermented (kvasené) cucumbers (or any other vegetable, actually). As for meal prep vs food prep, I agree with you, for me preparing meal components like this makes way more sense, but on weeks when I go to the office, I do prep full lunches so I can just grab a box/jar in the morning and go. Overall, though, meal prep is definitely the way to go! I also love having meals in the freezer for situations like last week, when my friend got the flu and I didn't have to worry, I just pulled two containers of minestone, a bag of veggie dumplings, a container of pasta sauce and a bag of chickpea burger patties from the freezer and suddenly I had a variety of home-made food to bring her without needing to take the time and effort to shop and cook.

hey Emi thank you very much for the video. I really love that direction you and your channel are going right now and watching every video that comes out. As for what I'd love to see in another video about food prepping is how to start as a beginner. Watching the video I felt a bit overwhelmed as to where to start and what categories of food to keep in mind when structuring a thought out meal/food prep for the week. and maybe some beginner friendly recipe ideas that aren't too intimidating might be a good idea. Basically a beginner's guide to food prep is what I am thinking of and would love to see when you would make a video about it. Obviously no pressure that's not what you feel like doing right now. Or like what Tools one really needs when starting preserving foods, so that one doesnt buy a whole bunch of unnecessary stuff.

Food prep / Batch prep has been a habit I've been working on. I think I need to be better about it, like you, and take notes. I'm trying to figure out go-to meals that I can swap out for seasons, needs, events, etc.. Just things I know we love, aren't complicated, and the components work together. I feel like I"m working too hard to figure out a plan and then make ALL the components. As someone with health issues, and flare ups that knock me out for a day or whole week, this way of preparation can be the difference between me eating a meal and eating something crappy (if at all) due to exhaustion. I would love to see more of these videos!

Better than Bouillon is one of the greatest things. So much concentrated product that takes up no space, lasts for basically forever, and completely recyclable. Plus it's the best price and tastes better than boxed or even my own home made veggie broth. Your food prep videos are so inspiring and very realistic. I agree that prepping food and not individual meals feels less daunting and more approachable for people who don't enjoy the same thing every single day. Love this kind of video! I love food prep AND meal prep, but my biggest struggle is actually meal planning. The cooking part has become muscle memory at this point for the handful or rotating meals we eat, though even that took a while considering I was not blessed with crunchy parents nor a healthy upbringing. I find myself wanting to try new things but becoming overwhelmed at bringing it all together. We are well fed by home-cooked plant-based (+90% whole/unprocessed) meals, but I crave seasonal diversity. I cook massive batches of things probably every day or every other day, storing the leftovers to be used as lunches or lazy dinner nights for my husband and I. Things like a liter of homemade soy/sesame milk, 5 lbs baked potatoes, 2 lbs of whole wheat pasta with either a jarred red sauce or homemade cashew sauce (+ sauteed onion, celery, carrot, garlic, baby spinach or chopped broccoli, maybe some mushrooms and olives), 3 blocks of frozen/thawed and baked tofu, massive amounts of lentils/chickpeas/pinto beans/black beans/black eyed peas and brown rice/quinoa/rye combined in different flavor profiles (mostly Latin, Italian, Indian, or pan-Asian). There's also a lovely "cheezy" sauce I like to make from carrots + potatoes + onions + nutritional yeast + olive oil + optional cayenne or jalapeno. A weekly batch of granola bars for my husband plus either a whole-grain (oats or WW) fruit or maple-sweetened quickbread/muffins, or black bean brownies for dessert. I love my Instant Pot, Vitamix, and SoyaJoy.

I certainly prefer food prep over meal prep. However, I don't fancy spending 2+ hours in a kitchen at any given time, so I tend to break down food prep into small chunks throughout the week. E.g. I made a nacho sauce last Saturday for a snack, then on Wednesday I only had time to press tofu, but not to cook it. I cooked it on Thursday. And on Sunday I cooked beans in instant pot. On a less busy week I'd be able to do it all in one go on Sunday.

I am interested to understand the "mind work" between figuring out what you are planning to eat during the week or what things go together and why AND the actual making of them. To me the problem of meal prep is that, in my mind, it's supposed to be prep to specific recipes, otherwise how will I combine them to make different meals? So I am interested to see how you go from point A to point B.
