Use a smart phone camera if yo don't have a multi meter. The beam (purple light from the led) becomes visible if there's a contact, nothing if it's dead. point the remote at the camera and press. Or just assume it's u/s and repair. I use aluminium kitchen foil and general purpose glue (not sure super glue sticks well on silicone). I received this tip from JB Hi-Fi.

This is good advice for those people who do not have a multimeter. Just check to make sure your cell phone camera can pick up the infrared beam, as not all cameras can. On my Samsung, the LED on the end of the remote appears as a faint purple like color when a working button is pushed on the remote.

Replacement original remotes aren't available for my unit. Aftermarket replacement remotes only work on less than 50% of the buttons, and even those you have to long press the buttons for 2 seconds. The Aftermarket one I bought has an inoperable on/off button, among many others. 😡

I would be very concerned about excess graphite shavings shorting out things on the circuit board that you don't want shorted out! I used a tiny piece of aluminum foil and some super glue and that seems to work fine. No worries now about graphite dust getting in places where I did not want it to be!

This only fixes a remote that's not working for one specific reason not other common problems like a loose waggly solder point or oxidized brownish, rusty battery +/- connection plates or springs in the remote's battery container.. Paul G

Super glue is not good. It will become rigid and fall off after a while, because the buttons are made of silicon. You should look for some silicon adhesive gel to make a permanent fix.

Kilka pilotów w podobny sposób zregenerowałem jeszcze jak mieliśmy w domu kineskopy. Obecnie piloty do LCD-ów najczęściej przeżywają telewizory (po dwóch - trzech latach TV zdycha i trzeba zakupić nowy z nowym pilotem). Jest jeszcze prosty sposób jak sprawdzić bez telewizora czy pilot działa. Wystarczy zbliżyć pilota do jakiegoś radioodbiornika który jest ustawiony na częstotliwości gdzie nie ma stacji lub jest ona słaba. Radio powinno pikać lub pomrukiwać jak wciskamy przyciski na pilocie.

@@FixItFast1 Yep it worked! But then I used some metal tape on another one. Just cut these tiny bits and applied where you used the pencil. Did clean the board with alcohol too. Worked fine buy it was your idea.
